Fair point andy, but there are still some damn good players going around in the lower divs. Not as many though. But footy does go around in circles as we all know.........

I have seen callington play and I would say that the Saints would be more than happy to have a game, we could do with a big percentage booster. Remember that Callington took 5 Saints 'fringe' A graders and paid them $250 per game, so they didint exactly have our top liners, yet they all became key position players.

so tell me LF when Barnett raided your talents ie; King,Hirst,Fox,Mclure,McCardle & Meyers i would have thought there was a fair hole left as your club finished 8th in 2006 ,i think in front only of Yank & Mt Compass and if my memory serves me right in 2007 you finished stone motherless .

Barnett raided the players mentioned above and we (Saints) did not change a great deal! All good players but not individual match winners which is what Callington got them on board to do. But we will welcome back chief as a stay at home forward pocket and mccardle as a part time b grader (when he's not playing golf). Kingy is of to Canberra, McLure off to Henley and Brad Meyers was a great bloke but was just no good!

LF you called them fringe A graders i would say Hirst will be in your 21 each week this year and i am also pretty sure Mclure would make your side along with McCardle and R Fox if they made themselves available to the Saints this year.

No doubt that Hirst and Mccardle were in the top Dozen when playing at the Saints in 06 LF.

However if they are fringe A graders it adds depth and gives strength when injuries hit as they always do!

R FOX won the saints b & f a couple years back definately an a grader when his mind is on it, same with McCardle. From what i hear, both played some stand out games for callington, but when you are playing in an A grade team that forfeits games i reckon it would be hard to be consistant and i am sure when this was happening it would be hard to get motivated to play for a team like that

No doubt about those guys being in our best 21, I am just saying that they are not the sort of players that can turn a game on its head (like a Rolfe, Hams, Portlock, King), which was expected at Callington.

And SWAT is right, all of them involved at Callington became pretty annoyed with the system out there. One week they had a full side who would win, the next week they'd lose by 40+ goals. Thats no way to enjoy footy.

After having a little to do with the saints when all the above players were around it would be fair to say Hirst and Mclure are in your top 21 all the other names mentioned are not the type of players that would play consistant A grade football. When committed R.Fox would do well on a wing but as with all the Fox lads commitment has been a problem in the past. McCardle, King and Meyers are all softer than butter and are more worried about how they are going to look in the team photo.
You do have to take into account that loosing these players did hurt the saints last season after a shocking year with injuries and 4 A grade players out with season ending injury's. First game they lost two players for the season it would have been a better season for them if the above were avaliable.

Didnt Mclure struggle to get a kick in his last year at the saints? heard the only offer they made for him to play again was for him to play as a local unpaid player, hence the reason he followed the other lads for easy money at Callington.

S.W.A.T. thats right playing in a team that forfeits A Grade matches could not give you a lot of faith in the coach but they all knew what they were in for as 90% of the team were recruited by Barnett and had encountered his football antics before either at Gooolwa,Hamley Bridge,Kingston and any other club he has been involved in.
