ATS I am interested to know what you think would be appropriate to qualify for finals? Clearly you think playing the last 8 minor rounds in the B grade should not qualify you for finals so what should? Are you aware that we have a young star that played 2 B grade minor round games yet still played B grade against Onkas in the Semi Final and also played A grade yesterday against Hahndorf? I'm very keen to know your thoughts here and also what will be the rule for the Southern Hills league next year? Hope you have a wonderful season 2013 wherever you end up

If there was a by-law that stated "if you play the last so many games in the Bs you are qualified to play finals" then that would be accepted. But guess what? There isn't, go to the website and have a look yourself. Other leagues have the rule... yes, but you can't go giving permits out because the GSFL or SFL have the rule and we probably should. Onkas are in a GF by default and from what I'm told every club they've played has made a complaint. I was also told the Board members making the decisions on the permits are Onkas people, slightly inappropriate don't you think? The thing you bring up about your "young star" is fine, read the rules... as long as he has played the required amount of games for the club he can play in the higher grades.

This issue raises its ugly head every year during the finals. I think it is very poor of any club, and that includes mine if they've ever done it, to chase permits at finals time. You've either got players qualified to play or you haven't and if you haven't then in my opinion it is a disgrace to bring in permit players at the expense of any regular player in that side. That says more about a club than it does about the HFL or the players.

Now, regarding the HFL I don't know any of them personally and wouldn't have a clue what their club ties are, but normal corporate governance rules for Board members prohibit any Board member from debating/discussing/voting at Board or sub-committee meetings on a matter where there is an identified or potential conflict of interest (i.e. voting on something that will benefit one's own club). If a Board member has a conflict of interest then he/she has no choice but to declare that conflict of interest and protocol might require him/her to leave the room during discussions and voting. Anyway, that's my corporate governance sermon for the day.

On with the footy.

In the end, Onkas are playing for a flag in B grade on Saturday, so let's move on...
I reckon Blackwood will smash a tired Onkas in B's & the A grade will be a dire arm wrestle with Mt Barker coming out on top. I just think that they've had their wake-up call & will NOT let this one slip. Just the third different premier in 7 years...

My Tips for this weekends GRAND FINAL
A grade
Mt Barker Vs Uraidla
I agree we have had the wakeup call required and by watching Saturdays game against Hahndorf I think we are ready for the challenge, Mt Barker by 6 goals,
Simon Nunan to win the medal

B grade
Blackwood Vs Onkas
Have seen both sides through the finals. Onkas have a young and quick moving side and it will suit them if the weather stays dry and after watching them dismantle Uraidla last week I think I’m going with them. Onkas by 10 points with Josh Andrewartha to win the medal

Under 17s
Onkas V Hahndorf
Shame Mt Barker couldn’t get over the line to make a battle of the match but Onkas have clearly been the best side all year. Onkas by 9 goals.
Jake Adcock to win the medal.

Under 15s
Blackwood V Hahndorf
Another Match Mt Barker should be playing in but couldn’t get over the final hurdle. I saw the Blackwood V Barker prelim and they look like a polished side. Blackwood By 6 Goals
Blake Moore to win the medal

Good luck to all playing in Saturdays Games

Haven't read the past few pages so may have been posted already .... Heard Billy Brownless will be at the Central GF tomorrow. Anyone know what this is about and will Onkas have enough "frothies" on hand to cater for his legendary thirst ?

Blackwood won a Ford Ranger comp to have a sporting star call your match, so they scored Billy for the B Grade game!

Roos by 15 points in the end. Led by 3 points late in the last and kicked the last two goals of the game.

Not a game that you will have on your highlights reel. I thought both sides played crap today...it's just that Barker's crap was slightly better than Uris crap. But......we won. Great stuff boys.

Got to be the shittest game of football I have seen for a long time. I went home half way thru the third quarter it was that crap. Even the apfl umpires that were there thought the standard was poor. Not a great advertisement for hfl footy unfortunately.

Did hear a good sledge though - "well it seems Blackwood a grade have finally won a premiership"....problem is it came from an onkas supporter after the b grade which I though was rather ironic....

The last 1/4 was the best "armytank". Was a real arm wrestle after Uraidla's initial burst of 4 goals but sometimes Grand Finals are a dour affair - so i don't think people should be too concerned with how it reflects on the state of Hills Football.

Just wondering if Lucas Block actually remembers winning the flag after a sickening head clash with about 5 minutes to go.

Interesting thoughts there Shrek. Although i agree yesterdays match was not the classiest match, how do you think a side like Norwood and Sturt reserves would go against the likes of Henley or SPOC A grade? I think if yesterdays match was as you said "about mid div 3 top div 4 standard" Then Div 1 must be far greater standard then SANFL reserves! Would you agree with this?
