I agree with sky pilot about the sgl there programming is so bizarre and the fact a side like port can't play home games at their own oval appears very strange....

Well I keep sayin if they want ta get people interested in playing combined football the SGL has to make more effort! Nothing is done to promote the game today. Cant find SGL teams on the internet but I can find Whyallas list and my cousins teams for Landmark cup and Mortlock sheild.
Anyway I had retired from bitchin on this forrum but looks like im back!

Now thats off my chest can anyone put names up for todays game?

Bit quiet on here, tips this week.
Port Solomontown and South for mine to make the gap widen. Solomontown v Central the closest maybe but why do they play in PA again?
This is a terrible program!

Do the board like Sunday games?

I do not know one player that likes them.

Sunday games are the absolute bane of every SGL player's existence. If you're in any way committed to your club they effectively kill off your entire weekend social activities and I know of quite a few lads who either don't play at all or wont play SGL because of them.

I believe Sollies (at least - others may have too) have put recommendations to the board to play double header Saturday games including twilight games and/or local U18 on Friday nights, or have the 'away' city sides play at the home sides on their on turf (Port, ETSA etc) to remove Sundays from the calendar altogether but the league brick walled it. Having 2 home sides play against each other on the Sunday is just plain ridiculous.

Clearly the incentive for the league is to have a few extra spectators on Sundays but I'm not sure of the economics and whether the extra $6 each for the ones who do wander in outweighs the need for volunteers/umpires/other jobs over 2 days. Perhaps if the proposed council fees do come in for Port Pirie the SGL will be forced to change or pay double the fees for using Memorial over 2 days!

You have to think of the imports too. Playing a game in Port Augusta on a Sunday and having to drive back that night back to Adelaide for example. Surely that takes a toll on players. Same problem with a Friday night game, would be a rush to get to town.

If games were moved to Port oval for example, I would find it unlikely that Ports would charged exorbitant fees like is proposed at Memorial oval. That would help the league out.

The Sunday games will remain until the SGL decides to move with the times.

Doubling the entry fee would result in attendance going down, simple economics.

Why couldnt they play games at other grounds around Pirie & Augusta on Saturdays i.e. Ports, Etsa, Chinnery or the oval across from Sollies, the SGL can still take the gate?

This is the SGL you are talking about.

Port oval is easily the best oval in Pirie but no games are played there.

This argument has been going on in the SGL since before Skippy won the Madigan. And I am stuffed if I know why you paid up club members keep bending over and allowing the SGL hierarchy to continually call the shots. You all should haven home games. You all want them. So get off your collective dates and vote the drop kicks out who make these very poor decisions and put your own guys in and wipe the slate clean and start again. Footy at Wandearah Road, Globe Oval etc etc would be fantastic. Everyone agrees except the blokes you vote for to run the show. Piss them off FFS.

Yeah but they can still be voted out ? If SGL played only on a Saturday and on their own home grounds it could grow back into a real force in country footy. Right now it is a shadow of its former self.

Sky pilot no doubt they need to change, just was trying to point out about why they don't want to leave memorial!

Port oval is easily the best oval in Pirie but no games are played there.

The reason why it hasn't happent there is not enough umpires. There too many umpires umpiring 2 or more games in one day. The umpires aren't getting any younger.

I take your point Brad. Not having a shot at you mate. Of course over here in Northern Areas we don't mind the comical programming that hinders the growth and development of the sgl because more of your players join our clubs and less of our lads join yours.

as much as I'd like to stick the boot in to west I doubt any of their b grade players would have made any difference to the a grade side, they just haven't got enough quality across the senior grades this year after a mass exodus

I think its got to be the players who have to step up, some of the lads are expecting success just because ray is coach. Senior players not leading the way ATM! Its good to see the younger players doing well in Harrison, Starkey-Treloer, Fisher and young Tyson Warren etc. But it shouldn't be these lads that are leading the way!
