Moving to a three tiered comp in 2013 is near impossible, firstly ALL clubs need to be placed on notice in the previous season (2012) that their end of season placing will predict which tier they begin 2013 in. Secondly the C'grade comp is currently ticking along nicely with only Milang interested in a possible shift upwards, the rest are happy with their lot which is good for them. The other problem is 'dumb pride' as a lot of clubs are happy to live on past achievments and not forward planning so every man and his club will be crying poor me if placed in Div 2 when instead they should be recruiting the shit out of players and working to retain their stock so they can win the div 2 flag and go right back to where they 'belong' the very next year.
Also I have it on good authority that the HFL's first point of business for 2013 is trimming the fat from the country and fixing the problem with the juniors in both divisions. Consideration is being given to a Sunday junior comp - I said CONSIDERATION as in it will/may be tabled at the AGM along with a few other options ofcourse.

Word from inside the Lofty camp is that the new president has put the stoppers on paid players coming/returning to the club for match payments. Other than incentives he's strongly stated that no one will get paid during his reign. Is this short sighted and possibly old thinking or is it an accurate assesssment of the coaching staff, junior quality and locals committment to stay at the club long term? If they can pull of success without any paid players, maintain their list and continue to develop juniors they'll be the pinnacle of what clubs around the country should be doing.

Lofty fans, don't go overboard - I heard this from the man himself and I think he's doing a great job!! (President) You guys are almost back in the black!

Champ - easy with all the 'solutions' there. "Recruit the sh%t out of players"? What are you on? Heard of a points system?
And as a Lofty lad I'm not gonna go overboard at your comments at all, but I will say that all of that was stated about 3 months ago. The prez's beliefs are good & debt needs to be gone. The incentives for BOG etc are AMPLE & really encourages simply the Best On Ground, not driving up the hill each week for $400.
I do agree about your 'placed on notice', by this I am referring to the 3-tier rubbsih as floated earlier, not relegation.
uris back on track & the Doggies done again. Can anyone see anything BUT a Barker Uris GF...as it stands? My darkie would be IB with all guns blazing on their day, & a touch of luck.

I think it was Reynella that used the "Best Player Payment system" quiet a few years ago.....

Serious cash for the top 5.

And it all turned to sh!t later in the season when their star players missed out, or certain players were favoured, which happens with every team.

Goodluck to Lofty, but you gotta wonder how they will build a successful team without paying anyone.

Surely other clubs will be lining up at Heathfield in October with chequebooks....

I noticed that John McDonald was sacked from Sturt last week.

Any idea where he is playing now? He's from Bridgy right?

I think someone posted My Lofty's average age as being 20. They definitely have enough talent to be a competitive side but it may take a couple of years before they see results. But from what I have heard the culture around the club has never been better and players are embracing the new system of not playing outsiders. They are all great mates and will stick together through the rebuilding process. Good on them as well, when they finally do find that success it will be far more rewarding than if it was purchased.

McDonald played juniors at Bridgewater. He was at the Lofty game on Saturday and was in with the team at half time.

Morphett Vale won 5 flags in 6 years with a very similar approach! Not sure about the Best Player Payments but through those years & still now very few if any paid recruits have played for the Emus! It will amaze some people, but if you build it they (the right people, not mercenaries) will come & stay!

JQ I was under the impression that this was a forum which meant poster could post opinions, ideas, solutions, banter and ridiculous inuendo? :?
Yeah I have heard of the points system actually and while it caps player numbers it doesn't cap recruiting! So yeah I'll stand by that comment, if I was at a club that was relegated I'd be recruiting the shit out of the best players I could find for the points and money I had available. Regardless I think I was actually pumping your clubs approach up, personally I think it will take a long time for the wheels to turn but once they do look out.
3 Tier rubbish? So I take if your club finishes bottom you will be one of the people sooking that you've been relegated when really you'd have been 'out on notice'
By relegation I am referring to the fact that regardless of three tiers being introduced all clubs are currently aware that there's a chance of relegation at seasons end....

Champ - I'm not trying to curb opinions, but you can't just recruit ad hoc, spend loads of coin but have star recruits in B grade.
3-tier rubbish - i am NOT referring to the current Central, Country & C grade. I am referring to a total combined 3 'leagues'. I think the way it works now isn't perfect but workable.
And you only have to read back a page or two - I'm far from sooking  I've stated SEVERAL times that relegation is a possibility for the Devs. Do I want it? HELL NO. Am I concerned that it'll happen. YES. Will I cry over it? NO.

Echunga had 10 Locals playing in their A Grade on the weekend with with another 4 locals on the side lines that would fit back into the A grade once up and running, I would like to see any other team running around with 14 ACTUAL locals in the starting 21! Please do name them........................

Plenty of recruits at Echunga, not the point I was trying to make. Just find it amusing all this banter about mt lofty playing their locals and not paying recruits (as if they have a choice), when only a few years ago they were at the forefront of spending big to get quick results. If they had the money they would still be spending big just like everybody else has to these days.

Exactly right!
Sorce, we had 10 true locals (have played juniors for us) in the A grade on satdy with at least another 4 on the sidelines so I don't think it is too much of an amazing achievement.

Ironbank had 13 on saturday with another 2 to come back who played juniors. Admitedly when they come back they may push out a local anyway.

Don't think that's the point now though if some "locals" expect the coin that imports get. Kind of defeats the great achievement of playing locals.

I bet that despite sitting bottom of the table, Lofty probably enjoy their footy more than any other Central team. Can't say that too many supporters are following them now tho juding by the crowd they didn't bring.
