Sack the lot of them! There's something not right at the club as it is, goodluck to Zack but regardless of his BNF's he's obviously not getting the best out of the team/club and any incidents only add to it. Maybe he and whoever else need to wrack off so the club can regroup and redirect itself completely; I say this because if only a handful of players and the coach are turned over and nothing else changes then expect similar/same results next year.

Some big calls there. Sure Ewer has stuck around when there has been little success - but he wouldn't have been doing so just for the love of it!

I assume you have fairly intimate knowledge of the workings of the club to be able to call for the President's head??? I've no idea what sort of a job he is doing - all I know is guys that put their hand up to do that job at any club are amazing - sure no one is perfect but for the hours they put in they deserve better than anonymous internet bullets. The coach gets paid, the President works his arse off and is usually putting his hand in his pocket too.

Hiring a coach is no easy task - I feel for them somewhat as Occa didn't work out last year now this. While given his antics one might question the hiring of Ewer as I would imagine there would have been signs of such behavior in the past, but I'm certainly in no position to judge.

you must have heard the toned down version of events! Respect for the coach is a big thing for players - one I know of lost that after the incident earlier in the year and I'm sure he wasn't alone.

Unfortunately after a good day at the footy, an incident occurred at our after match function, leading to the standing down of our senior coach Zac Ewer. This is effective immediately. I must stress that Zac has not been banned from the club, but what has happened is not acceptable from a senior coach. Despite any rumours there is no police action, no player fall out and there is no damage of the South Lakes Golf Club. The golf club is happy to have us use the venue for future functions. Both parties are satisfied with the decision. Brett Pedler and the committee should be commended for their harsh and swift decision and handling of the matter. Zac was to be resigned after a great season of re-building the A Grade side. It is a shattering call to make, but I hope that despite this, Zac is remembered for his on field achievements. In his 4 years he has 3 times won the best and fairest (this may become 4 in a few weeks time) and this year showed that he has the makings of a good coach. We now move forward, where our first priority is to throw up a big challenge to Willunga this Saturday. If you could get to the game this week, it would be great. See how the players respond to what is a disappointing situation.

By the way, the above post was in an email to all sponsors in their weekly club update. It sounds as though there aren'y any dramas between Zac and the club and this seems to be the case after speaking to people involved, so there is no point trying to stir up stuff on a forum without facts. Everyone is moving on

We would be wanting to keep every player on board but I know like every club we will see players come and go. All are welcome to stay and for those that go, we will thank them for their efforts and I am sure we will stay in touch and keep the door open if they want to return. The 2 mentioned are required. Micko has added some spark to a less than impressive forward line (not now but when he arrived) and harves is a country footy star, who's attitude and work rate is second to none. I'm sure you bay guys would have seen that.

Haven't seen Mickan play but Harvey's quality and think goolwa would have got more out of him playing him deeper foward both times we played him he played on the ball and swapped down foward, when he was at the bay if you hit him 50 or less out and he was on he wouldn't miss. From what I was told these guys will follow zack

GSFL Movements

Postby White Line Fever » Sat Aug 25, 2012 1:22 pm

Personally I think Zac has some massive potential to be a great coach.
Has fresh easy to understand ideas, game plans and knows how to get best out of individuals.

However I don't think he is suited to a player-coach as he is a massive personality and you can't be 'one of the boys' while challenging them constantly.

A successful coach cannot go drinking with the players - pretty simple really.
For anyone who knows Zac he loves to talk footy and after a few beers it doesn't take much for a conversion to turn to debate to turn to argument.

the comment that you have made, White Line Fever, is the best and most honest comment about Zac that has been posted on the forum. Yes he has his faults, Yes he will make a good coach later on, but you are right he should just concentrate on playing footy now. He has alot to offer any club he plays at.

lol - context!
I did mean I didn't know whether Goolwa hiring him was right or wrong at the time! I think the next prospective club has plenty of things to consider though.
Oh and I think WLF is spot on too. He might look good in blue and white.

Realistically the Premiership race is down to 3 sides.
Will, Yank & Creek.
Bays & McLaren have average to poor form coming into the finals and it'd be a massive shock to see either progress beyond week 2 of the finals series.

Where are Willunga at atm? Only 1 loss for the year and that was to Victor who havent even made the playoffs. :?
Cant knock winning form but how convincing have they been in the last month?
They've beaten Bottom 5 teams in Strath, Victor, Compass & Goolwa by an average of only 16 points where as Yank & Creeks have generally hammered these teams by an ave of 50 - 60 pts.

Yank having lost only 2 games for the season, both to Willunga by 21 pts and 2 pts probably have the most impressive form of the 3 coming into the finals and with the incentive of a HOME grand final, are probably premiership favourites.

Reigning premiers, Langhorne Creek have had a frustrating season, losing a string of close games early but have recovered to be well positioned to defend their title. Yet to beat Will or Yank this year but after loses to them by only 16 & 2 to Will and 3 & 7 to Yank, it'd be a surprise if they dont pick up a win over one of them in the finals. Despite a couple of easy kills in the last few weeks, coach Murgatroyd surely wouldn't be completely happy with the forward set up with their poor conversion and overuse of the ball.

Elimination Final @ McLaren

E.Bay v McLaren

Tip - E.Bay by 26 pts

Qualifying Final @ Mt. Compass

Yankalilla v Langhorne Creek

Tip - Yank by 5 pts

I agree with you JJ that EB will beat McLaren however LC have led Yank in both their encounters this year only to give it up late in the game. My tip will be LC by 14pts come finals time. The lads owe them one and Sat will be a good a time as any. Of the top 10 goal kickers 4 are LC lads and i cant see any side keeping them all quiet at once. All are fit and firing. Throw in Tom Johnson and Ryan Butler and that make six possible multiple goal scorers. Good luck with that !!!!!!

Whatever happens will be a great finals series with some awesome talent on display.
