Kappers, I reckon its crap when people say "could of" or "should of", there is no way in hell Stokes could of or should of played AFL or SANFL, it takes a bit more than being able to kick a nice goal or dodging a couple of blokes to consistantly play at the higher levels, i don't think guys that haven't been involved as a player or coach at the higher level understand the difference

As a young fella Stokes had more ability than Hams of Willunga, he also had more AFL clubs chasing his services than I think you know the theme songs to. I agree with a few of your points but the bottom line is for some unknown reason Ben is not red-hot on his footy and would rather go fishing most Saturdays, he plays for the money only I suspect. He continues to change clubs possibly to avoid having to try harder than the year before at the same club. He is a talented footballer who has wasted his time away, the thing I dont agree with is how you seemingly discount his ability - ability is not his problem, I wander if at his best and at your best who would come out on top?

I know you love to stir the pot but thats the biggest load of crap you've written so far. Hams consistently kicks goals each week, did a preo with the power so he was alot closer to playing AFL, and by the time hes finished will get the respect he deserves from all the other Gsfl clubs. Big game player. Whats Stokes done? Has ability but is only a country footballer. You coach the Bays and you would rather Stokes than Hams?

I was actually attempting to get a bite out of Jingles. I'd prefer hamsy... we didnt make a play for Ben for 08 but in saying that it should be noted that the fella can play - he just doesnt want to most of the time.

For one hes reliable, every week you know what you're gonna get. David played over 60 games of League footy so on paper, real life and any other way you look at it I'd take him over Ben. Now when Ben decides to play or work hard in a game theres no doubting the immense ability he has. Hes got pace to burn, a leap, a sidestep, and skills but to not know which guy is gonna turn up is too big a risk to take in my book when you want to challenge for the top prize.

Completely agreed, great post.

does anyone know about goolwa and why they are training so hard? i was talking to a local goolwa lad who said they had 40 out at their first training and apparently they trained yesterday with very respective numbers.

Saw the bays boys again on sat morning, looked like about 10 players, kicking the footy in the parklands then going for a run off around the island while i was having breakfast. Looking very fit! Wonder where the rest of them are or where is the coach?

The main object has been to make the process in to the tough stuff easier and to get guys out of the normal routine of just going to the pub every night. As for money now that the points system is in, we have been lucky not to have to spend too much. Our biggest drawcard has been offering the 'challenge' of pulling the club off the canvas.

Come on LF, you boys love throwing the cash around down there. Yeomans just down there to help you get off the canvas or for the $$$. Spoke to Popey and he said you've only signed Hirsty and Killer, yet you'ved posted quite a few other names. Im guessing Fennell would be well sought after especially since he is a 1pt player.

I heard the same when speaking to a few lads over the weekend Cuzzy. They boys were saying that its non compulsary until the new year and a few lads have been doing their own work over the off season to remain what fitness they had and are now looking to build on it. Its good to hear a few locals are getting back in shape to help things go forward down at the Saints hopefully come round 1 they are all still keen.

Can you name any of the bay boys you have seen out Cuzzy?

Dont know where your info comes from WOW but I can tell you that Yeomans was offered 600+ to go and play for compass next year ,also offered 700+ to go to ironbank , he is at the saints on a lot less and wants to help the club back up the ladder . If you also look at LF's posts the saints have signed the wilson twins from goody saints , ben fennell from penola , jarrad littlefield from pt noarlunga , todd russell from penola , mark coote from penola plus the return of those locals you have mentioned . And I believe their maybe another signing close to being done . Obviously the saints have identified that they needed players and have gone out and done exactly that , as BJ posted earlier teams are going to find out who has recruited who so they are not hiding who they have .

Yeah the numbers for the bays are growing each week, completely non-compulsory until Jan.
I think the coach is enjoying his time off and working on recruiting and his coaching certificate...

600+ at Compass and 700+ at Ironbank. Don't think so mate. I know both these clubs don't have that sort of money to splash around. Don't know where you got your info from but it is extremely inaccurate.

If you read my post i told you. Popey is still the coach isnt he?? Also the last few coaches at Penola are all very good mates of mine so i have heard a bit on what these boys are up to next year. Why would Yeomans go to Compass for $600 a game when he told a few boys thats what hes on at the Saints

words of wisdom to suggest that the Saints have $$$ to splash around is ridiculous. If you knew the budget we are working with you would laugh your head off it is extremly minimal. Our greatest pulling power so far has been offering successful players a challenge. Not all players are about the all mighty dollar. S M Skinner's post has confirmed the signings.

Those sort of players are the reason we've done what we've done this year. The players we have got are not household names but will be handy and seem to have the 'team' in mind.

Its good to see thats where the Saints are headed. You've had to many good juniors come through over the years not to be playing finals. Coote can play. You sure you havent chucked in some cheap rental accomidation LF?

a lot of hype about yeomas, what did he do last year? he was put in the team of the year in a position he never played so that doesnt mean much. I know him personally aswel and he himself would say that footy for him is not really that high up in his things to do in life anymore. He was a great younger player at glenelg but got burnt out early. Hes a copper now and he can not garutnee that he can play each week.

Goolwa do the same thing every year, train hard and get good numbers until march and then people loose interest or they relise they aint going anywhere and half the team throws in the towel. Anyone that has been invloved in the league or the club would know this.

Yeoy will miss 1 in every 6 games due to work. By his own admission he had an average year last year but is looking to rectify this. Cuzzy you are right about us losing motivation early in the year, we really need a good start to continue building and confidence and enthusiasm. Its something we are working hard on!
