South Clare finally announces their A Grade coach and its Justin Michael.

Justin played a mixture of A and B Grade last year for South and previously coached them.

Will probably do a decent job.

Not sure its panned out the way South wanted however, they advertised from the week after grand finals were played, went back to the market on a couple of occasions and then ended up with the bloke that was already at the club and which they knew previously. Guessing either he has put the hand up because they couldn't find anyone else or he wasn't really their preferred option give how long it take. I'm guessing its that he probably has agreed to step up because the other candidates weren't who South wanted.

Hearing from the self-proclaimed greatest BBH footballer ever that they are in serious trouble at the moment.

No B grade coach in place. Barely any names interested in playing and more jumping ship because of how dire their numbers are looking.

If true, this isn't great for the competition.

I also should have said still no A Grade coach in place.

Surely that would get us the title of the longest name in football history :) Or we could just be called Mid North Central East West United.

We would definitely take Izacc Pearce. I mean he already plays cricket for Spalding/Booborowie.

Sadly thats the trouble BBH are in if the rumours are true. They dont have any where to go of them.

West of them is BSR who are pretty content at the moment, pretty strong on all facets and not sure the redhill element would fancy playing/training out at Burra.

The closest north of them is Peterborough but they are already merged with Jamestown, or more like taken over. Issue being even if the Peterborough element wanted to move to a BBH merger there not really bringing anything including not many players from my undertanding.

South of them is Min Man who appear to be strong on all fronts and really couldn't see them being interested in a merger. Unless BBH could bring some serious $$$$ i don't see this being a discussion.

East of them is dessert.

Lots of 'best of in the last 25 years' getting around at the moment......what would a NEFL one look like. I haven't been around long enough to make a decent call on it but happy to start the chat and throw names out there. (first to admit I'm not the expert so wont even try an actual list)

From a BSR perspective we would probably say blokes from more recent times like Matt Longbottom 2 x mail medalist, Alex Morgan, Jordy Clements, Jack Haarsma also mail medalist. A couple for longevity and quality but may not quite personal accolades would be Mongrel MacKenzie and Sam Martin. Arguably one of the most credentialled blokes to play in the NEFL in the last 25 years Buckets Mackenzie albeit it was the backend of his career.

Blyth would obviously drop names such as Gareth Ottens, Ryan Darling, Caleb Lloyd.

Blokes who played higher level football would be names such as Daniel Schell (BBH), Corey AhChee (S/S), Chris Schmidt (S/S), Adam Hartlett & Justin Hardy (albeit them two played less than 20 games in the league i reckon)

Throw some names out there or if you have been around since 2000 throw out a list.

Corey was a true clubman and maybe would make it

The others came for the money and never trained or gave back

The others Let’s not go just because they played at a higher level they should make it they were all done once they arrived but
Got paid really well

Roger James another who came to the Saints slept with blokes wife’s and took the money
One year he didn’t play for the Saints as coach but managed to play at kersbrook

Boh Wall, Jason Schuppan, Zack Hier, Kim Hart, James Vandeleur, Macormack boys, Jarad Gillings all dominated in the league while the standard of the NEFL was still half decent. Unfortunately the league is nothing like what it once was.

The generational debate is always an interesting one and ultimately no right or wrong.

The closest i think we can come to a certainty is that the depth was much better in previous eras purely based on population, that is undoubted.

The quality of the best footballers is still real strong though albeit limited in numbers, even in recent years we have seen blokes go straight from the NEFL and walk into SANFL league sides. Weve seen a bloke miss the reserves Magarey by a vote. The addition of the 'paid' players from the city also adds to the high-end talent even if their motives are questionable.

The other big one and this never goes down well with the older types but 'evolution'. I was involved from a fitness perspective at Centrals during the early 2000's and the times the current average ammo players is running is out of this world. Blokes running 2km in under 6 minutes and 5kms under 20 is common place now. You look at the AFL 2km time trial records and all the records are from the last 3 years. We also have the first generation of country / ammo footballers that have grown up using gyms and training to specific programs since they were teenagers.

How many of these time trial kings are actually gun footballers, though? The kids that win the time trials at the combine are rarely, if ever, in the top 10. Walsh is the only one I can think of and if you need further proof of his impact in matches, watch last night's game again...

The best bit of the footy evolution I think, is the size of the players these days.

Yeah that's a good shout. In saying that the opposite is Greg Williams would struggle to get a kick these days at AFL level.

Size is a massive difference even at ammo / country level. We have 21 years old who are now 6 years in the gym and built with some seriously designed strength specific for football.

Best of the last 25 years: you would surely have to look at Brodie Murphy, Matt Allen, Michael Leibelt, Reynolds at the biggining of his a grade probably more from around 06 flag for South Clare, Zac Heir, James Vandeluer, Kym Hart, Craig Mullins kicked a lot of goals from RSMU Bill Sandow, Ryan Mcdermit would be two of Min Man best and there would be more I couldn’t think of Craig Jaeschke Lachlan Jaeschke… sadly probably Nic Procka for North Clare Ottens, Darling, Gillings, Caleb Lloyd for Blyth. Saints Launer, and Prior and there would have to be more Leigh Kimpton would be a name I’d throw in there . BSR Morgan, Longbottom, Haarsma, nothing against Martin and mongrel good footballers but just no chance. BBH Schell Schuppan Wall Tom Drew probably some more I can’t remember from their 2011 flag. Just from the last 15 years and obviously my opinion so nothing to go by. there would be a heap more from 2000-2010. Which is the reason I couldn’t see Sam Martin and probably a few others get the nod.

Great post.

Don't disagree about the likes of Mongrel and Sam Martin, they were just more examples of solid footballers that have both had serious longevity (both over 300 games) whilst also picking up a few flags and a range of club level awards but agree they probably weren't 'as good' as nearly all the blokes you've listed.

RSMU easily knocked of Freeling in both grades on Saturday.

Thats probably the expected result. RSMU will be really good this year. Their top end recruits are quality.
