Creeks cant take a trick this season in close finishes, losing for the 3rd time this year by 3 points or less.
Went down to Willunga today by 3 points 10 -10 to Willunga 10 - 13.

Creeks will now probably need to win their last 8 games to secure a double chance which is certainly possible but they've set themselves a huge challenge.

Yes I thought Creeks would get the choccies today JJ. Still the final 5 looks fairly set now even so far out. With McLaren and Creeks losing the door remains ajar, but with victor and Goolwa not even able to beat the sides below them on the table I can't see it changing.
Yes Strath are a stronger unit than earlier in the season but that was a pretty insipid performance by Victor after quarter time today.

You're not suggesting that Strath are still a chance r u ?
McLaren currently 4th and 2 wins and % ahead of 6th would be the only team in the top 5 currently that could possibly be susceptible to a late challenge BUT which of the current bottom teams are capable of making such a challenge?

I'm suggesting any team outside the top 5 except maybe Pongy could make the top 5, all teams are beatable on the day.

I think Victor lost their chance for a finals spot after going down to Strath, they needed to get on top of those lower teams to be a real contender.

After seeing Strath a few weeks ago I thought they were alot better than their ladder position suggested. Starting to pull it together now, but a case of too little too late.

Willunga beating Langhornes was a big surprise up there. Surely shows they are the team to beat with only one loss to Victor which I'm sure wouldn't happen the next time they meet.
Yank and Langhornes the two to take it to them.

Yes definitely, but it would take a mighty good run to get into the 5.
It is great to have such an even competition but the facts are that the bottom 5 have only beaten the top 5 sides twice in 10 rounds ( VH d Will and St def McL). Victor also only lost to Yank by 1pt.

Creek are only 1 win ahead of Victor and Goolwa and have had a slow start but they haven't lost to anyone below them and the losses were only by 1pt, 2pts, 3pts,16pts and 20pts. Of course we only see a glimpse of the opposition sides form but they are still the best side I've seen this year by a fair margin. As JJ said McLaren are the only side that could be displaced really, but they already have the runs on the board.
Even if they were to only muster 2 more wins for the year, victor/goolwa would have to win 5 of their last 8 ( having both lost to a side below them already in the second round). I know Victor's best is good enough to do that, but the odds are still very long for it to occur ( as one eyed as I am!). Stranger things have happened I guess and I hope I am wrong!

No missprint you are right. Not sure whether it is a sanfl rule only or great southerns also but yesterday was a joke! A serious incident happened around the 8 minute mark of the 1st qtr with one of victors players getting his legs taken out from under him accidentaly and hit his head very hard on the ground. He was out cold (snoring apparantley) it took the ambulance around 30mins to get to the oval after having to take a snr colt to hospital beforehand also? As this was happening both teams stayed warm doing small drills preparing for the game to restart as you do. Once the ambulance left the field both teams had just left there huddles and went to go to there positions when suddenly the siren sounded then the umpire called a draw (game abbandoned). The time was about 1.20pm with well over an hour till the a grade game had to start. Surely they could have still played 3 x20 min qtrs. Think there will be a few complaints from both clubs on this one? Does anyone know if this is great southerns rule also?

Yeah definately a shock seeing creek lose to willunga. Great win to willunga you would be very happy 'bj'. I think the wet conditions would have favoured willunga as they did in last years semi in the wet at strath, creek love the game being fast and free flowing.
In regards to the strath v victor game, strath fielded there strongest team for the year fielding no snr colts for the first time in over 6 weeks. Strath were very slow to get out the blocks with victor kicking with the wind and getting a good ride with the umps 12- 1 free kicks in the 1st qtr. Strath slowly clawed there way back and dominated play in the last half. Hodge for victor was brilliant unbelievably strong in the packs and taking a hanger in the last. Iljcesen marked everything that come his way, but had too many passengers on the day. Head up 'field of dreams' finals still within in reach.
Strath have left there run a bit late to make finals but could well help shape the last spot or two in the 5.

So are they playing 1 x 60 min without breaks to finish the game in time?

But in all seriousness from the AFL law book...

10.6.2 Incomplete match

If a Match is unable to commence or continue within the time
scheduled for the Match for reasons beyond the control of
either Team (including circumstances where it is unsafe for the
Match to proceed) the following shall apply:

(a) Match Not Commenced

The result of a Match which is unable to commence for reasons
beyond the control of the Team shall be determined
by the Controlling Body.

(b) Prior to Half Time

If a Match has commenced but is not able to proceed at any
time within the time scheduled for the Match, the Teams shall
depart from the Arena.

If the Match is unable to recommence within a 30-minute
period, the Match shall be deemed to be drawn and the scores
of the Teams at the time the Match was interrupted shall be
used in calculating the percentage of each Team.

Thanks for clarifying footy1992. It was very strange with no footy for that hour and I know both sides were disappointed with the ruling. Lucky we had Ross Gibbs speaking at the club for the sponsor's lunch so he kept the crowd entertained.

I see on the GSFL clearances page a couple of the young guns of the league in Mattner and Mccrostie have put in clearances to SANFL clubs.

Which club/s have picked them up? Im sure they'll acquit themselves well! Good luck boys!

Riley Mattner's having a run with the Panthers on the weekend seeing there's no local footy.

Had a good look at him in the association game and he reads the flight of the ball really well. marked everything and kicked goals from all angles. The only downside was that he didnt chase and tackle and pressure the SFL defenders a whole lot.
He will have to improve in this area to make it at sanfl level. If he does then he will be a great get for South.
