Lions won a close one. Great for the club that everyone, including myself, thought would be well off pace this year. Monfries obviously an excellent recruit and perhaps just what they needed to get their "nearly there" players going. Regarding the result -possibly the same reasons as those you gave for Sollies beating West. Still early stages. (Anyhow Centrals would be one spot higher than your boys ATM so dont throw stones! ;) )

1 Solomontown 2 218.52 %
2 South Augusta 2 112.16 %
3 Lions 2 110.26 %
4 Central Augusta 0 90.70 %
5 Port 0 89.16 %
6 West Augusta 0 45.76 %

With some surprise results from the weekend, it will be interesting to see if Port Central and West can bounce back.
I wouldn't think West would want to be 0-2 with a % like they have got.

South - Seem to be the benchmark
Ports - Apparently Centrals stunk it up and got close, Ports in a close in

Very interesting to see how Round 1 form stacks up this week.
Great start and win for last years bottom side Lions against premiers Central. Sollies must have been good over West away and South no doubt happy with a win away from home. All lower placed sides from last year got up, very even comp this year I think.

You are right Kinghit, Penny has been cleared to a Roxby club, no animosity between him & Ports, was offered a job he could not refuse (underground), but it came with the obvious conditions, will be back playing for Ports again at some stage.

Yeh yeh you win. I think after this week might be different. Sollies might beat Centrals and dont count us out against Souths. even when they have better form we give them a run for money. Think Lions could sneak another win too.

Ports by 77pts, Lions very undisciplined, hardly gave a yelp, Ports still look like they have a few key players out, Mudge, Luteria, Carey were not out there.
Big name Monfries hardly fired a shot or was not allowed to, Whiting for Ports a gun!!

Well interested who would have thought Sollies would undeafted after two and Centrals defeated, any reports on this weekends game?
Tips for next
West to get there 1st win just.
South by heaps.
Not sure maybe Sollies just will b match of the round, should draw a big crowd. Once again stupid decision from league to ply it on Sunday. Regardless of where they r on ladder they pull a crowd.

Not that surprising really, doubt it is any great coaching by Davies, more to do with spending up big on recruits, and maybe getting some decent ones this time, however the last time Sollies did that (1995), they went undefeated and then went into the football abyss for years after, nearly sending the club broke.

Good point, the news coming out of the cat camp is that there very happy with the whole coaching panel that maybe Davies is grooming Terry Pryor to become a coach. And the spending money I think you would find that they wouldnt be spending much more if any more then most club, they have just recruted well and spent there money on the right players.
If you have a look at other club Ports with Neary, Underwood, Burford, Whiting. Lions Monfrie$ (huge $$$), Oconnor, Ley, Horsnell, Central with Fuller, Woolfood, Shillabeer, Morris. West all the Warrens take it I am hearing. South with Maragtiech, Rivers, Horner, Schmidt. Make you own mine up with that list, but me or anyone else will never who is on what unless you are in the surrounds of the club.

About $80 a touch going by all reports from Saturday!

Should be some cracker matches this week.
Sollies v Port - Lean towards Solly but wouldn't be surprised to see Port get up over their traditional rivals.
Central v West - Tipping Ray to get West over the line but only just over Centrals who have a few missing and appear to be lacking confidence.
Lions v South - South in a canter. Marsland to set new SGL record for most 50m penalties.

On another note has anyone else taken advantage of the Trax FM coverage? Brilliant work by all involved and gives scores from other close by leagues as well.

west- ray stapleton is in good form and a few of the miners should be back in the side this week
south- always have been good starters and this should continue 3 and 0 for south

Sollies 8.14 62
Ports 8.6 54

Jacob Neary did not play for Ports.
Ryan Saracino and Aaron Casey two of the better players in a keenly contested match.
Good crowd at memorial.

Good to hear a good crowd for the port and solly match, old rivals and with solly coming out of the wilderness it should bring the fans back.
