Adsy has been good for us, looks to be enjoying his footy. Flew back from the mines just to play againsts his old side. Last time we won at Strath was probably when that old fella at full forward saturday was coaching us! On that i think we clocked up our 37th player to play A grade this year & its only Rd 5
Good to finally have a win.

Didn't like the close attention mate? :D Last week was more important to show some of our players how hard they have to work if they want to compete for 4 qtrs, you should take it as a compliment. Some were soundly beaten but we stuck to the plan & have no doubt it helped in yesterdays win.

I like the sound of McLaren and they might be able to sneak in if they can ensure they beat the sides below them.
LC for me will be the improver and while the Bays are all the talk it would be fair to say that 1-3 injuries will have them reeling when it counts.

Interesting to see McLaren take down Victor on the weekend.

It can't just be coincidence that Hill leaves one and they improve in leaps and bounds, then Hill takes over the other and have struggled against any of the finals contenders.
Fair enough Victor have lost a few players but Thought they would have got up on the weekend. With Yank coming up it doesn't seem to be getting any easier for them.

McLaren have improved and are playing great footy with Gary Cameron at the helm.Great to watch.I think they will get better to as they are still getting to know each other as there are some new recruits in there that real good players. As for Victor, they had their chances but didnt take them in the 3rd quarter kicking 5 points and Kip doing a great job on Illjecsen which i thought went along way to getting the result as well as a huge work rate by Mclarens mids. Both sides had quite a few young players in them which is great for both clubs.I think Hilly will do well at Victor and good luck to him.

How many points did McLaren kick in the 2nd quarter?
I got to the oval about 10 minutes from half time
I thought they kicked 0.5
McLaren have recruited some good lads this year
Good to see the Yetti and the Mitcham parents for a glass of Yetti's finest brew

Got to admit Jimmy i only saw the 2nd half so i am going on what i saw.Think McLaren are in for a great year. And it is good to see the Yetti out of his cave and catching up with everyone. The new recruits all seem to have settled in well which is not surprising and after talking to a few off them they are all good blokes which i think is the most important thing when you bring new players into your club.

Amazing the turnaround down at Mclaren! I knew Gary was a good coach, but hes far outperformed even my thoughts on how he would go down there. Recruiting some quality players in Caeser and Towers, by the sounds of it getting the group training hard and working to a plan has seen them improve in leaps and bounds! At 4-1 it would be very surprising to see them miss the 5 from here considering who they've already beaten!

I can see that it is easy to come to that conclusion Old Mate, but I don’t think there is anything in it. I too am surprised at McLaren’s improvement, as the side hasn’t had that many changes really so Gary Cameron is to be congratulated but after seeing them on the weekend it is hard to see how they managed to get over Creek or Bays. What was impressive was their run in numbers – seemed to have lots of small to medium sized guys prepared to run for each other. Victor had some good players but as a whole that would have to be the worst they have played this year so far – really lacked the intensity they have shown so far this year – I would expect that to happen with so many young guys in the side but 2 of our best were just that. But the table says McLaren are 4 and 1 so hats off to them as it will be pretty hard to miss the finals from there.

The Victor side Hilly is coaching looks very different from last year. The ‘few’ players missing that were part of last years A Grade – Jurek, Topley, Hannemann, Parker, Bridge, Saunders, Kruger, Kruger, Brown, Boyd, Robinson, Fairhurst, Basham is a huge loss of experience so given the lack of new recruits there is plenty to like about the way the side is looking for the future. 9 young guys are playing A Grade footy that had a total of 16 A grade games between them at the start of the year (mostly games played when they were still colts). Should be a good contest with Goolwa this week.

ps already played Yank – lost by 1 point.

For anyone that is interested our under 15 GSFL side is playing Sturt in a trial match tonight at 715pm at Echunga Oval. This is the squad that will go on to play the SFL on the June Long Weekend then will continue on to the SA Country Championships in the July school holidays.

Tonights Squad is:

Jacob Shaw - Goolwa
Quinn Raymond - Myponga
Damien Dowzard - Goolwa
Kane Milford - Willunga
Bryn Loots - Willunga
Lincoln Hill - Myponga
James King - Encounter Bay
Beau Walkom - Strathalbyn
Adam Clarke - Strathalbyn
Ben Ferguson - Mount Compass
Todd Milford - Willunga
Connor Mellow - Yankalilla
Josh Marshall - Encounter Bay
Matthew Krueger - Victor Harbor
Cooper Sampson - Encounter Bay
Jack Weller - Encounter Bay
Nathan Westley - Langhorne Creek
Cameron Turner - Willunga
Brad Hill - Myponga
Jed Rothe - Langhorne Creek
Jacob Wright - Victor Harbor
Cohan Bartlett - Victor Harbor
Liam Magor - Victor Harbor
Ryan Fisher - Yankalilla
Ben Worsely - McLaren
Michael Allison - McLaren

Good luck to these lads. There are a few missing from tonight through injuries, but a good squad to work with. Big challenge this year taking on the SFL instead of the RMFL so get around these blokes. It wont be too long till these guys are your A Grade stars.

That is more players out than I thought, don't know a few of them but still means a B grader comes up to replace which can hurt depth. Still have a good midfield with Iljecson up forward which I thought would have been enough against McLaren. Especially when I heard Hodge started the year so well.
Maybe I'm expecting too much from Victor or not giving McLaren enough credit. Which if that's the case I still think Hill is one of the factors for these turnarounds.

I think this weekends game against Goolwa (not Yank, sorry read the phone wrong) is a bit of a must win for them otherwise it will be a big up hill battle to make finals. They then have Willunga and Langhorne which you would think by their form Victor will go down, meaning they could be 2 wins after 8 rounds.

At 4 and 1 with another 8 games against the current bottom 5 they 'shouldn't' miss the finals. Stranger things have happened of course, esp with the comp being so close.

How'd the trial go LF?

What like is this Agrade team is basically the same bunch of guys that played A grade when everyone was accusing Mclaren of stacking the B grade! hhahaha

Lets not start talking finals yet at all the comp is so close we will all have to wait and see what happens.

Willunga will have to be the Favourite and looking at some of the scores plenty of games could have gone either way for a few teams, like Ebay Maclaren Yank victor Goolwa and Langhornes... which makes it a good year for the GSFL.

Trial went ok, was about -5 at Echunga. They kicked 5 to zip in the first quarter and it was all over. After that they outscored us by 1 goal. Shaw (Goolwa), Raymond (Pongy), Weller (Bays), Krueger (VH) and Allison (Mclarens) were among the best.

Has anyone seen the association squad that has been named? How is this picked and who by? Is it on form or reputation or age? I am happy as Larry because we only have 1 selected but would have thought Trent Griffen, Ewer and Fergusson were in good enough form to get a gig
