Sound like it must have happended though as a few posters seemed to have witnessed it, a bit weird that the Umpire felt the need to report but not follow it through?

Surely the Tribunal doest look favourably on the trip to Victor on a cold Tuesday night for nothing.

HS the trip to Victor alone when im assuming most if not all umpires live well north of there doesnt appeal to anybody. We hear of this happening a bit that the umpire never shows therefore the player just gets off, whether they're guilty or not surely if theres an incident that warrants a report, or a hearing it needs to be booked in so the umpire can attend, and therefore the penalties can be issues correctly. Sounds like a non event, move on.

This weeks games throw up some interesting ones, and another round of working out whos going to be a challenger this year and who will be making up the numbers. Good start to the season!

My thoughts... It is making the whole report system a bit silly .. firstly who has the right to report.. Is this written somewhere. Secondly with the Umpire not showing opens up another new can or worms. What happens when there is a blatant punch / incident in say a B Grade match that is umpired by Club umpires which does happen a lot. So he is reported by his umpire as he has to as its blatant... The Club umpire doesnt show to tribunal so his mate doesnt get slammed. Doesnt make any sense with all this new mandatory. There has to be some rules in place. The Umpire should be made compulsory to show at tribunal or face a fine himself. OR have another sessin on the Thursday....

Definately saw some players in your B grade that would warrant a spot over him.... Definately not up to A grade standard anyway! Whats happening with Dean Mckinlay? I saw him running around in the B grade but heard he may be working away?

Good questions and interesting scenario. The first poster on this suggested the 'victims' dad made the report????? If that is the case or even possible is the umpire required? Did he report also? Perhaps someone can fill us in on the details a bit better.

Fair chance that goat is just that. A goat. If he is from our club this stuff isn't necessary. It got pointed out to me that in his avatar he has spelt Elliot wrong, so I'd say he's not associated with us. just a stirrer

Good to see that the GSFL have changed the rules mid season. One runner only intead of two (AFL rules) after one minor hiccup. Interchange steward to be reintroduced. Clubs to lose more volunteers in one area and then having to look for more for mundane unneccessary jobs. Top Stuff.

I totally agree with this and would love to hear LFs take on this too. Again I wanna know HOW they can change the rules like that without it going to a delegates meeting... Isnt the league all about Delegates deciding.. (and not just one or two at the top).. Also with the bloody interchange.. How the hell is someone supposed to keep up with the fast paced A grade coaches with all of their rotations.. I can see it ending in heart ache.. and its not just a job you can give to some joe bloe... It is a specialised job.. I can see this causing problems..

Are we going backwards as a league with all this crap... Just need to get the rules sorted so there is no grey areas and move forward.. Not go back 5 years.

Was the 'hiccup' at the Bay/Victor game? There was one there when 2 runners were sent out at the same time (they and the coaches etc were obviously unaware of the rules). Sure it was wrong but it was pointed out to them by the oppostion bench and then by a league official, and it really wasn't a big drama.

I note under "Rules taken from Minutes" on SP:
10. A Team is permitted to have two runners provided they are both nominated on the Teamsheet and that only one runner is permitted on the field during play at any one time. Penalty following report:- a warning; or fine of $200; or Team suspension from using two runners as determined by the League Commissioners.

Instead they change the rules????

As for re-introducing the interchange steward - WTF? Love to hear the reasoning behind that!

From what I was told it was from that game about the runners and as for the interchange when one of the junior teams had 19 on the ground.
At the end of the day mistakes happen and regardless of what rules are put in place you will never stop human error. I think reintroducing an interchange steward will make a mockery of this 'change' as the players and coaches are so used to not using it. More honest mistakes will be made and it will cost someone at the end of the day.

I'm also led to believe that the GSFL president is overseas at the moment. Was this decision made without him being present????

Interesting... as having seen a game each round so far this year i have thought the 2 runners worked really well and looked very professional!

I havent really got a take on it, I am not 100% on the situation. From what I heard a couple of clubs with 2 x runners had both of them on the field at the same time? I think we all know you cant do that, but was a deliberate ploy or a minor oversight? If its a minor oversight then who cares. Tell the club not to do it again. Doesnt sound drastic enough to change rules
