You could say McCormick lost the medal as well as the game when he missed that goal.

Didn't realise games are won and lost on one kick? What about the other 87min & 55sec of play?

Are premierships won over 18 games in the season?

Or winning the one game at the end of the year.

What you do before hand puts you in that position. What you do when you get there decides the outcome.

So who was playing on Fowden when he kicked the winning point immediately after? Did he lose the game for Blackwood? Or was it the players that let Uris run it down the wing so quickly from the kickout?

One kick can make a difference, but doesn't win or lose a game - unless it's after the siren ;)

McCormick was almost single handly keeping blackwood in the game early when uraidla settled better. Blackwoods big forward line which fired in the 2nd half of the year wasnt getting the job done. Gigney limited impact, dundovic did nothing, hopton well beaten by ebert. McCormick and herbert looked the most likely to kick balckwood a winnign score. In the end the game was won on momentum, Uraidla couldnt stop blackwood in the 3rd and vica versa in the last. Down on the wing in the last quater and ebert to full forward were game changers for mine as well. All in all if you paid admission to this game you got your moneys worth and more.

Agree with most of the stuff written on the grand final. McCormick was sensational, best player on the ground by a kilometre but missing that goal did cost Blackwood the premiership and there isn't much point giving the BOG medal to someone in the losing team. Richards was great in the last quarter but thought Wade McLean was probably Uri's best.

JTS, why are you even on this forum? You obviously have nothing positive to say!! Of course there are going to be scrappy passages of play.. its a GF. What about all the good passages? No positives? As far as the underage drinking, country footy finals are a bit of a carnival atmosphere and that's what makes it a beautiful thing! Did you enjoy your day out at HFL footy? If not, nobody cares!! Nobody is claiming that the top Hills sides would win the SAAFL, just saying they would be competitive!!

Well done to uraidla though, played the game in good spirit and both sides gave the crowd their money's worth IMO JTS...

McCormicks hanger in the dying minutes was one of the great GF grabs!! Probably not up to SAAFL div 1 though ;)

Comparing HFL to SAAFL is impossible- due to the smaller HFL ovals the style of football required is totally different. A lot more stoppages, congestion and pressure which results in a lot of long kicking to contests. Tough and smart footballers tend to excell in the HFL, which Uri and Blackwood have in abundance. However, if you put Uri and Blackwood on Adelaide oval, the collective skill level from both sides would be on full display.

Tell that to Gary Ablett, having won the 1989 medal. The best player is the best player, doesn't matter who wins. Shame that isn't always reflected in mail medal votes.

Now that the season is over Clubs will be looking at how they can improve there squads for next year.
The points system means you can only grab a couple of new players
Assuming that key players don't leave, what type of players should teams be looking for? Here’s my view on things:

Uraidla: although Premiers could still do with a young quick running halfback which the olders guys can give the ball off too.

Blackwood: need a quick forward flanker who can kick the opportunist goal. Also a key forward if it’s true that McCormick, Gigney and Roche have all retired. Also need a young jumping ruckman

Onkas: need another tall backman who can free up Smith a bit and maybe another running backman who’s not afraid to break the lines

Mt Barker: Need another in and under midfielder and a big marking CHF who will take the best backman and free up Nunan up forward

Hahndorf: need another ruckman to reduce the load on Nicholas and another key forward to play alongside Marshall

Ironbank: I think need another gun midfielder to help out the likes of wendleborne, Yeoman’s and Williams as well as a quick leadup forward who can also get under the feet of the smiths.

Mt Lofty: Need a tall backman and a decent ruckman (another Bowden) and there whole side not to get injured

Loby: Need to strengthen up the spine with a key CHF and CHB

Torrens Valley: Need to add more depth to their squad. Probably could do with some good players outside of the key positions who can play the wings, pockets and flanks.

Bridgwater: A Key Forward and a gun midfielder to help out the younger players

=D> Dude, credit where it's due - fantastic post, great insight. At the moment i can't comment much about the Devs as I'm not sure who's leaving. I think we can assume White's gone with the knee and over summer you always get the banter about guys leaving. I agree about the full team on the park. I guess that also comes down to depth.

Golding will be a fair replacement - could be bringing a couple of Noarlunga team mates with him too apparently.

not quite that easy - blackwood have very few points to play with, can probably only recruit 3 players in total.

So Golding to Blackwood, why deny it in the first place?? Salievic to coach Edwardstown, is this true? Cobb, Herbert, Gigney, McCormick and Roche finished. I hear some others are off elsewhere, Woods have 10 points to play with. If Myles stays they'll be able to pick up 2 maximum. Maybe Pope and Rowett will finally get to play A grade finals or are they off elsewhere???

It's a shame Ross Wait is heading overseas - he'd be perfect for the Devils.

Scott Madsen from Echunga, initially overlooked by the Devils but proved to be an outstanding senior coach, would be a great appointment.
