HFL Division 1 (Central)

Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

Absolutely heartbreaking loss for us yesterday. 5 goals up at 3/4 time to lose by a point was shattering! What a great game of footy though!! Would easily match it with SAAFL div 1. Period. The atmosphere was the best I've seen at any country footy game. Plenty of passion and what its all about. Tough way to go out for Cobb, Herbert, Gigney, mcormick & Salievic but that's footy!!
Any estimates on the crowd yesterday? Would have thought over 3000. Sensational buzz on the far wing!

Agree 100% on that comment. Looked more like an under age drunk fasion parade than a football crowd. A 15 year old girl was hauled away in an ambulance half time of the B grade drunk and throwing up on herself (no parents at the game). I dont believe the HFL had any first aid at the game either.

Seems like the hfl has a problem keeping alcohol from being brought into the grounds this year. This is clearly evident at every game. Yesterday there was almost as many eskys as people containing alcohol not supplied at the ground I am sure. If the underage drinkers were stopped at the gate with their supplys confiscated the problem might be lessened. Come on hfl follow through with the "no alcohol to be brought into the ground" rule.

I dont think they cared what happened on the other side of the oval. To busy counting the money as people came through the gate.

With Weslo Security and a few cops around you'd think the HFL would be on top of this underage drinking and alcohol being bought into the ground. It looked like Blackwood hired a crowd from about two dozen blue light discos. This was evident at the huddles at each break as the opposition seemed to have more people around their players. I guess the kiddies were more interested in drinking than the footy itself.
On another note I saw a young lad get hit in the head by the game footy while standing inside the ground only a metre from the boundry, fortunately it didn't do any serious damage just a few tears. Who's policing this area? I guess the HFL don't really give a s$?t as long as they collect the money at the gate. Great games of footy but poorly run by the league. By the way Moose go watch some Div 1 SAAFL footy and you will notice a significant difference. There is life outside the Blackwood bubble and our top 3 would be mid range in the Div 1 comp.

Very true. Underage drinkers, warm weather, big crowd under the influence and high on emotion is a receipe for disaster. The HFL needs to address these issues with action not talk before the GF days turn to a feral fest. The parking was a big problem yesterday too. Many people made to walk long distances to enter the ground, those in the ground having trouble getting out with cars being parked in areas not designated for parking. saw afew cars hit and a few near misses.

Great stuff Uris! Always good to see country triumph over city. Fond memories of excess cabbages helping undermanned panthers in 2002-4. ENJOY :D

Re the under-age drunks, they'll slip through the net at any function anywhere. Ignore and watch the game and the scoreboard. 8)

What a great day of footy it was weather was great big crowd but dont think Hahndorf is the best place to host a GF. Parking was terrible and with so many people there if you wernt on the fence vewing was not so flash. Lobethal would have to be the best location especially with the hill to sit on.

The umpires and officials continually had to shuffle people away from the boundary line all day. And if you werent on the boundary line there was no where else to sit! Loby would be he best location without a doubt, the hill would have been packed yesterday on a day like that! If not at loby, possibly mt pleasant! Saying that it still was a great GF.

The league should have learnt from last year - Hahndorf is a terrible viewing venue, with parking making it even worse.
Well done to the winners, not that i like seeing the Cabbage go back-to-back-to-back, but ever since they belted the Devs early in the year I thought they'd be tough to beat on their day.
Are those player losses fair dinkum for Blackwood? I know they'll always pay, I mean find someone knew, but they're big losses regardless.

Definitely an enjoyable game of footy even if there is a fair bit of kicking long instead of hitting targets. The style of play is the only way in Hills in July/August when the grounds are heavy and it's a hard thing to change the style you play just for finals when the weather is good.

Very pleased to read a sensible "Last Word" in the budget this week. Would like to know who wrote it as it certainly wasn't Owen. Was great to see straight talk instead of the usual spin which Mike Rann would be proud of, and was again used in the comments on country division in the President's opening page.

Haven't attended a GF at Hahndorf before but am staggered that it was set aside for the GF so early in the finals process. Cars would have been parked atleast 600m from the ground on an 80km/h road. Loby received a final, so why wasn't it the GF, or better yet Mt Pleasant? Rotating the GF should not occur - just play it at the best location.

Paul Richards into the ruck in the last quater won Uraidla the game.

McCormick's failure to kick the goal after taking an absolute screamer lost Blackwood the game.

You could say McCormick lost the medal as well as the game when he missed that goal.
