Valid question without whinging about payments. I think you'll find your lower end paid players have taken a bit of a cut but your higher end quality players such as Block, Neely etc are receiving excessive payments. Less players can be recruited because of the points but more money can be offered. Overall no reduction, they may have actually increased.

This year is the tightest I have ever seen the comp, maybe we should talk more about that. To be honest every club pays an excessive amount to players. Maybe the only exception is bridgy for the first time in recent memory they are going the way of youth and you can tell they are struggling but hopefully for them it pays off in future years like it is starting to for some other sides. Seems like the best thing bridgey have done in years IMO, as they were still finishing out of the 5 anyway, might as well save the money and promote the youth.

On a new topic I dont know if its just me or have people noticed their seems to be more injuries this year to compare years previous. This is testing some of the depth around at clubs and proving to even the comp out IMO.

I reckon I brought this up in the very early rounds about which team can keep their best team on the park the longest, so I agree, outsmarts, the depth will be the key. Lofty's will be tested in the next few weeks, I don't think Uris have had too many out, Blackwood had a bunch out early, the Dogs' BEST squad is very competitive and the effect certain injuries had on the Roos has been touched on here. Outside the 5 I'm not sure, I haven't heard of too many injuries for IB & Hahndorf, that's just going by what's been on here.
I still stand by my prediction of the halfway mark - I cannot see anyone going near uris. Their B grade have dropped off a bit so maybe injuries is everyone elses best shot?

Only each club knows what they spend. The ACTUAL question was 'has it evened up the comp?', we answered that. But if there's going to be another 8 weeks of whinging on here about player payments, shut this thread down

Yes the question was about evening out the comp and as I said, the points will not do this as in the medium to long term the clubs with more $$ retain the players. In the shorter term it hurts the clubs who need players (that is why they have a higher point allocation). It does prevent a club going on a massive recruiting spree, which is where your "smarter recruiting" comment came from.

Clubs will still spend what they have allocated to players so there will be no impact there, only now fewer players receive more as it is more important to keep players at your club who are worth lower points.

Until there is a policed salary cap it's all carp and a complete waste of time IMO.

Anyone know how many Hills boys made themselves available for the side? Shee and Wendelbourn always do but was there a severe lack of interest this year?

Obviously some of the better hills footballers aren't in this team cause they didnt make themselves avaliable. These sorts of competitions are going the way of State of Origin in the AFL. Its a great concept but players dont wanna risk getting injured and missing the greater glory of winning a flag with their club side. With the comp so close this year you really couldnt blame any players for giving themselves a week off to rest.

Well done to the lads that made it but it's obvious not many made themselves available when there are about 6 from the 3rd to bottom club picked, no disrespect intended at all.

I was told Blackwoods A grade coach has slapped a ban on it's players and supporters for posting on this forum. Apparently too many home truths are getting out, not all happy camping at the woods.

Pretty disappointing write up in the courier today I think, if Owen and his mates want this to become a popular event then the first thing they really should do is promote it better than what they have! Let everyone know that it is a really enjoyable weekend to be involved in at zero cost! The committee needs to lift!!!

Yeah sorry I didn't make that clear! About the country champs, the article was hardly even a paragraph, it's just not being promoted well enough to make it seem interesting! It is a very good weekend but unless owen does something to make it appealing no one will go!

First of all you have to get some interest in playing an association game on the June long-weekend, it seems that clubs are not interested in that.

Yes it is the clubs that have voted down the association games. The HFL want them to go ahead. Makes you wonder if the other leagues give the clubs a vote on the issue?

What else do you expect tho given clubs spend so much putting a team on the field - why risk them to injury when they could have a week off.

If assoc games included a requirement that players must have played some junior footy in the league you might have a whole lot more interest from players.

That's the biggest issue is the amount of money going around these blokes just take the cash, they must feel hard down by playing in assoc. Games or zone games when they don't get paid for it! We are the only comp that's doesn't have a game and after the poor effort with blokes not turning up to zone try outs i don't think we will ever get these guys keen! Pretty shitty!
