He spoke to one of his work colleagues about the options so in the meantime we did a bit of ground work to get organized if it gets closer to actually happening. We did this so if the necessary people meet him we know what we can and can't do re money and points. We won't be taking anything away from the current squad by signing him in lieu of others or putting all of our time and resources towards securing him. Points are always tricky but there are always options. We have a good group of colts next year who could act as -1 options.
Im not involved in your league at all but where you say it won't take anything away from your club, try telling that to the young lads that are at training every night of the week and bust their guts to get into the A Grade when then get told sorry mate, you didn't make the team because we have got a big name player coming to fill in for the week. Usually it is the young lad who has played all his juniors at the club, mum runs the canteen for 10 years and dad does all the crap jobs around the club. I have seen it all to often with these ex retired big names, coming in for cameo appearances,
demanding a heap of cash and hoping the crowd will come to watch them. I'd just be very careful when going down that
path.
Spot on. That's the exact reason we haven't jumped in head first. Don't want one player to upset the majority. Having said that, the general consensus is that players would love the opportunity, which is once in a lifetime, to play and train with a dual norm smith medalist and one of the greats. With the points system, someone that has done years of hard work would be a 0 pointer, so it won't affect their position
