You need to have a massive chip on your shoulder if you think there's something discriminatory about what I've written...

just after a few thoughts. In the u17s we have the mercy rule at 90 pts and play 20min quarters. On the weekend tasmans reached that target with almost a quarter to go,the rest of the game played a scratch match. In the following reserve grade game played with 15 min quarters tasmans had 2 regular A grade players coming back from injurys trying to get some game time.I know when this rule came in the Bs at most clubs were stuggling for numbers, but I feel most clubs have reasonable numbers we could try make it go back to 17 1/2min quarters for both grades. With this less chance of mercy rule and the Bgrade being used what its meant for.Just after some comments.

good surface? you joking? i played last year when the whole oval was one big puddle, and in summer it is harder than the western oval..
only good thing is the changerooms which hardly required spending the whole councils budget.
the scoreboard is even a dud!

Sherrin's back!!!

Ravendale is a dead set shocker! Changerooms look nice, but I remember going after a b grade game when they'd first been done up.

A few of the lads went for a shower, only to hear the inevitable "Oh !@#" because they realised after soaking the entire changeroom floor that there was no drain holes!!!

Tiger: I'm out of the loop... When I know, it's already common knowledge, but I saw the proposal (like BTB, I am apparently still on the mailing list), and I don't think there's a snowball's chance...

Sonya - you need to head up the road where you can still play 20 minutes of Reserves! And if you re-unite with an old coach of yours you might even be able to push your way into the A-grade!

Shortening the quarters was the best thing they ever did in the twos. The GF game I watched this year, the B's just seemed to really drag on and I don't think anyone needs to watch that much crap footy!! Also keeps the older guys out a few years longer than they maybe would have if it was a longer game.

From a spectator point of view, a quick B grade game is the go....

From last night I hear that there is now mandatory sentencing in place in Pt Lincoln, as a trial until the end of the season, based upon the FWFL model.

Are there any posters who can shed some light on what the FWFL model is???

Shortening ressies games was as a result of incorporating a new junior grade. Happened about 5 years ago, and Sonya you can blame me for that one...
Really had to be done, given most sides lack of B grade numbers. Only complaints at the time came from the committed B graders, but given the tight schedule something needed to give.
As for the mercy rule in junior grades, the onus is really on the coach of the dominant side to draw the game out for as long as possible.

If fixed penalties are being introduced, the hats off to all involved. Change is coming!!!
btw...If anyone takes the time to speak to Tony Irvine about the FWFL model and the positive effect it has had, I am sure they will be most impressed.

When I played 17's, we never won a game, and, in fact, I don't recall playing in a game where we did not suffer the mercy rule.

However, the "done thing" at the time was to swap some players, generally some of the dominant sides "better" players, with our sides poor performers (always found myself changing guernsey ( ;) ).

That evened up the contest, and with our side being "mercied" by half time most of the time, we had a very even second half most weeks...

These days everyone seems too proud to swap the guernsey, and as a result, the boys get disheartened, as they are constantly flogged, and often sides just decide to finish early...

Have not met a current B Grade player that wants longer quarters...

MP not advocating swapping jumpers, more player placement to make a more even contest. No issue with winning by the maximum margin, just make it happen in the last quarter, not the second. Really about common sense and ensuring that all your squad get a fair run.

So are we tipping Mallee's to run through the competiton, now that the ring-in's have been rung-in?

I can't see myself tipping against them if the weekend is anything to go by (admittedly Rangers are the second weakest team in the comp), and unfortunately one PD is still to return (even if he only gets the one game before he leaves us again  ), they will be very difficult to beat.
