Is Easter weekend always off? I reckon Anzac clashes would be good. I've played in a few (Hills & elsewhere) and when the last post plays and you've got your 'brothers' on either side of you, it's a bloody spine-tingling feeling. Rattle the tin for the legends that fought for us too. Could make it a 'rivalry' round...?

Hills football always has Easter off, but plays over the ANZAC period. Just a factor of timing that in 2011 Easter and ANZAC day coincide. I agree about the special feeliing of playing ANZAC games. Always something to look forward to.

Anzac Game played between north and South Gambier today and would of have around 2000 spectators around the ground. Pretty intense game and most seemed pretty lucky to play today. Not sure if this is a standard game of the league but it would have been well worth it. Even it it coincides with easter.

Strath and Langhorne Creek played as well with a huge crowd at the Creek. Strath winning easy in the end.

Its been played for about 10 years. Started off because Norths home ground is next to the war memorial where the ANZAC day parade finishes. But South complained that they were missing out so it is rotated. The paper said the crowd figure was over 3000 people and I would think that a league like the Hills could organise something similar.

Lobey by 75 points, nothing further needs to be said.
Barker by 48 ponits, Nunan BOG.
Uris by 30 points, S Ebert to wreck havoc through the guts!
Blackwood by 62 points, Dundovic to kick 9!

Uris over Ironbank by 3 pts.

Ironbank hit the front and led most of the last qtr until the last 15 seconds.

good game of footy with Uri getting 3 goals infront at half time, same at three qtr time, close all day, I think the largest margin was about 24 pts.

IMHO Uri looked old, fat and slow, particularly after 3 qtr time but their class, skill and pedigree got them over the line.

Ironbank need to win these games, to be 1 and 3 really not good enough.

Blackwood versus Torrens Valley (30/04/11) results -

A-Grade - Blackwood : (26. 6- 162) defeated Onka. Valley : (13. 9 - 87)

Blackwood entered the clash against Torrens with many changes to the upwards of 6 changes to the line-up. The outs were McCormick, Landorf, Magary, Fotheringham, Linde, Catford, and Ridley. The ins being Cobb, Work, Moore, Edwards, Ewers, Magary, and new player from West Adelaide, Jacob Mowat.

The match started with officials and both teams lining up in-front of the clubrooms and having a minute of silence (ANZAC Day). When the game started Blackwood was the team to have the strong start, piling on 5 quick goals with a couple to Dundovic and things were looking shaky for the Lions, but they fought back and by quarter time it was they were only down by 5 points. The second quarter was then a closely fought quarter with Blackwood pushing the margin out to 3 goals. As the teams ran out for before the 3rd quarter there was a feeling that Torrens Valley were right in the game. But Blackwood had different ideas putting the sword to Torrens Valley pilling on 11 goals 3 behinds to 3 goals 3 behinds and totally kill off the game. The final quarter turned back into a scrappy affair, with Torrens Valley trying to impose on the body instead of the ball, and when the final siren went Blackwood ran-out 76 point winners and Troy Edwards receiving the Anzac Medal and Glenn Dundovic kicking a back of 10 goals straight.

All it the score doesn’t show it, the game was a closely fought affair with many big hits and sore players. But I will say one thing about Torrens. From all the A-Grade games I have seen is that they were the dirtiest team I have ever seen. When they started to get afew goals kicked against them, instead of focusing on the ball, they went for the body and trying to ‘take-out’ some of the lighter-frame Blackwood players in late hits behind the play.

B-Grade - Blackwood (21.13-139) defeated Torrens Valley – (2.2-14)

Lucas Herbert with 6 goals in his first game for 2 years

17's - Blackwood defeated Torrens Valley – 24 goals to 2
15's - Blackwood defeated Torrens Valley
13's - Blackwood defeated Torrens Valley – 17 goals to 0

Army you might have considered Uri fat and slow but they still move the ball out of defence very well with run and get numbers around the ball at stoppages and kick outs. The two goals just before half time thru undisciplined acts cost u the game. IB was on top at that stage of the game albeit the scores were close and lost momentum. They seemed in the 3rd qtr not as desperate to win the hard ball.
For some backing a Melb Cup winner at 125/1 is a dream........for me its a fact !!!

Great playing group with the worst thing for them a footy committee that rivals the worst in any sport worldwide. I feel very sorry for great HFL players Shee, Smith, Klunn, Kirwin and the Tanner boys who will never taste the ultimate success due to the complete and utter incompetance of the above mentioned clowns.
The only bloke that does anything with any professionalism in that whole club is Chris Tannner who was truly an excellent President who understands the game, unlike the clowns previously mentioned one thinks it is still 1972 and is generally too blind drunk to watch the game properly and the other is better placed at a womens basketball admin desk.
Keep up the good work boys the proof will continue with under achievement.
A tradgedy really as the club itself could be truly great if run by a committee with an ounce of professionalism and footy knowledge.

Sorry but sounds like sour grapes to me Dave Evans.
I watched the game yesterday and the Onkas boys are playing some good footy just lacking a couple more quality players.

It is going to be interesting to see how Alby Glyus responds to his first genuine challenge in coaching Mt Barker. For the first time while he has coached there they are not clearly the best team and he will actually have to display some coaching skills to keep them around the top. This will be interesting to observe. Well done Hahndorf on a great win yesterday.

Yes their ball movement was very slick, particularly from the backlines, I am not disputing that and yes, poor disipline basically cost us. Fat and slow may come across a little harsh, I probably should say that they appear to be an aging side and it is their experience that gets them through. Silky clean skills can make you look quick, particularly if you have the experienced players who position themselves well.

I am not having a crack at Uri's at all, they are still the team to beat this year, I just think they are more beatable this year. Younger sides may be able to wear them down, particularly towards the back half of the season.

Have to agree with most things you say there foxy . Excellent game of footy by both teams and plenty of spirit shown as well by both sides . Ironbank had there chances to ice the game late in the last quarter but just couldnt quite deliver the killer blow
On a side note interesting results from the other games this weekend Hahndorf easy winners over the roos ( be intrested in Roos posters thoughts were Hahndorf good or Roos terrible ? ) and Onkas only just going down to Lofty all shapes for a very competive season apart from Shanty I say . Hills Footy alive and well !!

Magpies well done, just well done. Way too good and Barker just didn't come to play. Disappointing to say the least, but with some key outs we will wait for the re-match. Look out for next week after the roast the coach gave the boys!
