Of course every club spends cash, including mine- some just do it better then others. It is up to you how you define 'better'. I think I have made it clear how I define 'better'.

If you have the money spend it. Mt Barker have recruited 2 blokes that were heavily hunted by many clubs and obviously thought these two players was what they needed for success. So be it, can't have a shot at the players, if it was offered to any player I think they would take it and jump onboard, u always take a risk paying players big cash, as a club u just hope you get what you are after from them. I would say every club in the Hills Central would be paying aroun $60K-$70K so don't think your club is innocent and have pot shots at others. But yes if a player is paid you would expect them to be putting in around the place and helping out where possible.

Didn't they demand what they are on?

Ok ATS, you are from IB, what else do your top paid recruits do? Smith, Yeomans and Wendelbourn? I know they would all be getting good coin, I know I would rather my two recruits over those 3.

I don’t think this is a debate that can ever be won, or is a discussion where any team can take the high moral ground.

The bottom line is that all clubs in the Central Division at one stage or another have paid players more than they are worth, and certainly more than the club can afford.

I know that Ironbank are committed to recruits for a sizeable sum in 2011. My understanding is that the Club benefactors have decided to roll the dice one more time to see if it can buy success. Only time will tell if this results in finals football.
If it doesn’t, what then?

I also understand that Bridgewater are now going the other way and purposely choosing to invest in their youth with a view to building for the future. They have relatively few non-locals in the team and would only be paying “pocket money” when compared to the larger clubs. The trouble with this approach is that with Birdwood likely to seek promotion if they make the Grand Final, it means the Raiders may end up playing a year or two in Country Division while they rebuild with local youth.

From Mt Barker through to Lobethal, everyone’s paying someone to play for them. I don’t take any of the figures mentioned on these pages seriously. I know from my involvement with Onka’s that some of the dollars allegedly being paid are way off the mark. Pure speculation.

Bridgewater paying pocket money? $1100 per game for HFF/wingman Curkpatrick? Yeah, smart investment! Money is money, everyone has their views on how to measure success too, each to their own!

And where did you pull $1100 from? Did you just make it up to suit your argument ?

Surely you've got enough sense to realise that throwing unsubstantiated amounts around weakens your argument and credibility.

I know this is the mark give or take $100 as a club in the GSFL, successful club, offered $900 per game and he said he wanted more than $1K. Club refused. And the person who told me is the assistant coach who offered him the contract! Unsubstantiated, yes but no.

Lebron, ATS and anyone else can you stop bringing up the argument of player payments. I’m getting sick and tired of all these rumours about how much each club is paying to get players. Everyone has to face the fact that these days that clubs do pay players to play, and whether clubs chose to give-more money than others is there choice. Writing on this forum speculating that a player is getting “how ever much” is just stupid because unless you’re the player or board of the club you’re NOT going to know how much they are getting.

Lebron, writing that a player from another club is getting ‘$1100 a game’ from a rumour that you heard and saying he isn’t worth the investment is totally stupid. Your club clearly has players at your club are getting a lot more per game and Mt Barker probably spent more than Bridgewater did and still achieved the same result as Bridgewater last season (no flag  ). I also KNOW for a fact that Mt Barker is paying talented juniors (will not name them) to move from struggling Country Division clubs with low junior numbers to come to yours, so that you can win a flag. This will push out a local kid, who just wants to have a kick of a footy.

C’MON please, you’re killing a small-club. Don’t be hypocritical and stop whinging about money. Get onto discussing some real football issues, rather than just moaning about payments.

Yes, I have heard a number of other leagues comment on the amount of overpaid players within the Hills League. I never wanted to get into the whole player payment thing though. I was merely stating I couldn't believe Fisher and Block from Mt Barker were receiving $1500 a game and one of the two was openly talking about it in front of the opposition, gloating for a better word. Lacks respect for the club he is supposed to be representing, but I don't think he really cares anyway. Football gypsies.

That's why it's wrecking it its not often you can walk into the oppositions clubrooms and have a beer with the boys you've been playing footy against for the last 5 years cause most of the locals have left it's not a good sign

BB, read the posts that started it and get off Mt. Barker's case. Sick of the talk of footy payments too, and hypocritical lying posters. Get over it!

On a softer note, what do people think about no games over Easter? I would love games on Saturday!

No lies, just repeating comments that were voiced out loud.
If your blokes played over Easter lebron would they demand double time and a half? Sorry couldn't help myself.

I noticed in TV B grade Scott Perryman played last week. Hasn't played for a couple years but would definetly add to the depth of the A grade.

Is Easter weekend always off? I reckon Anzac clashes would be good. I've played in a few (Hills & elsewhere) and when the last post plays and you've got your 'brothers' on either side of you, it's a bloody spine-tingling feeling. Rattle the tin for the legends that fought for us too. Could make it a 'rivalry' round...?

Hills football always has Easter off, but plays over the ANZAC period. Just a factor of timing that in 2011 Easter and ANZAC day coincide. I agree about the special feeliing of playing ANZAC games. Always something to look forward to.
