In his own words 'it' went "good".

So will be interesting to see/hear of any outcomes.

I thought I heard on the news last night that if the 'disqualification' was changed that the GSFL Umpires would strike.
So will be one to watch with interest I think.

what an absolute joke!
maybe someone should have shown the tribunal the kids facebook page.would have seen just how sorry he was! :-l

Whilst I agree that the umpires have every right to be upset. This strike only impacts on those who have supported them. The GSFL and the everbody else seems to support the suspension and the umpires. It is the SANFL who have not supported umpires. They are the ones that need to be impacted on. Maybe the GSFL/SFL umpires should have asked their SANFL brothers/sisters to support this strike across the state.

I would say the AFL would be able to.

I'm not sure the AFL could reverse it but it could be re-assessed by the court system.

Why only junior matches?

Just my opinion- but if they're going to make a point it should have been all matches, not just the juniors of the GSFL 'suffering'.

Ran in to an Umpy today and they wanted to strike all matches but Gordon Tonkin convinced them that clubs could suffer financially if host clubs had to abandon matches for the day. Junior umpires will be found within club you would think.
Well done Umpy's - taking a stand but still willing to compromise, lets hope that there strike action makes the press and the SANFL have to publicly answer for there actions.

It made Triple M radio this morning. Just ring up the afternoon footy show, I'm sure Ditts and Roo would love to talk about it.

The least the GSFL umpires could do is cover the SANFL badge on their shirts. Maybe if any umpires from around the state are reading this - cover your SANFL badge as a show of support for your GSFL brothers.

It was mentioned on the news tonight that all GSFL umpires would wear red armbands on Saturday to signify that 'They see Red' over the SANFL decision.

All umpires statewide wear a red armband to show your support.

I'm still going to cover my SANFL badge as well.

Unfortunately as the umpires panel (CSLFUP) are independant to both the football leagues and the SANFL they dont have a SANFL logo on their uniforms!
Good to see other umpires getting around the panel though!

Not making light of the issue, BUT isn't it strange that umpires expect players to REPECT their decisions on the field and to get on with the game without questioning their decisions BUT when they dont agree with a decision made by their superiors as in this case, some of them have spat the dummy and threaten strike action. Yes it's their perogative to do this but would be unlikely to achieve anything. Accept the decision and get on with the good job that i think they've been doing.

The unfortunate thing in all this is that the juniors of our comp are going to suffer and club voluteers are going to have to do more work.Gutless decision by the S.A.N.F.L.This lad should have been ban for life.Weak Pricks !!

After getting a few texts, face book messages etc asking about the "the kid from my club that hit the umpire", I thought that I would just clarify that the kid in question was an encounter bay footballer. Many of the media outlets are mentioning the fact that he is from port elliot. This is true but this is his place of residence. This had some people linking him with our club. At no stage has he been involved with the Goolwa / port elliot football club.
You can love football, but it wont always love you back!

A couple of questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the appeal to the SANFL.

Is it correct that an amount of money has to be up in order to appeal?

If so who fronted the fee?

Is correct that ALRM supported this appeal?

If so is this not a misuse of taxpayers money? I do not believe this is what ALRM is for.

If they have represented this offender this is a case of descrimination. Nobody else gets the same representation.

Note on SP:

PLEASE NOTE

Football will be as normal for Saturday 30th July the Umpires Panel have withdrawn their services for the Junior and Senior colts Matches in protest at the decision of the SANFL Appeal Tribunal to reduce the penalty for striking an umpire- the matches will be umpired by Club volunteers.
