Very interesting to see what comes out the Tribunal with this. They are going to have to send a bloody strong message that this definitely not on. A weak decision could see a few Umpires walk away . Forget the dogooder thoughts here this Kid needs to banned for LIFE. Strong message from EB which I think was spot on , they or any other club does not deserve to have any of this crap attached to them.

It would be a shame if the umpire quits. I deal with youth on a day to day basis and i would say there are some that think playing footy gives them a license to go and knock someones block off because they think they can get away with it. they would rather hit first and worry about THE consequence later. I hope the Gsfl send a message by giving the lad a fairly hefty supension. People these days dont think about what damage a hit to the head can do. Just look at the David Hookes incindent.

The lad got 5 years apparently, so he will get a chance to redeem himself (he is only a first year senior colt it seems) later if he wishes. Obviously needs some help as he has been sent off multiple times this year already and did try to take it further later.

We cannot afford to lose umpires so it is sad he has quit. I believe we have umpires coming to our club on Thursday night to talk to the players - that is a very good idea IMO.

So that makes him what 15 years old?

I sincerely hope that if he has 'issues' (which it would appear he does) that someone in his 'adult world' gets him some form of counselling.

Gives him time to hopefully grow up and see what he is missing out on. I guess it is his choice now (and hopefully his parent/s) as to what his plans are on his future, ie - getting help. If Police action is taken they can point him in the right direction of what some options are apart from any punishment issued by the courts.

Any info on if he is just banned from playing or was there a further penalty such as not being able to attend at GSFL games, etc?

Originally a 10 years 'suspension' but given his age they decided 5 years of the 10 would be suspended.

Certainly should be a deterent for others with that kind of suspension you would think.

Are there not AFL imposed rules regarding any player suspended for 16 games or more will be banned for life? The SACFL may or may not have adopted this yet, I'm not sure?

Front page news in the Times this morning. Really disappointing to hear that the umpire has resigned. Hard enough to get people willing to give umpiring a crack without this sort of stuff happening.

just haveing read this guys facebook page can the GSFL reconcider the peanalty given on tuesdasy night?
this idiot is showing no remorse and seems proud that he has made the frount page and that the umpire, AS THIS CLOWN SAID ON FACEBOOK THE BEST THING IS THAT THE PUSSY IS QUITING THE GAME.
Well i say the best thing is that this thug will not be playing for 5 years and is unable to assult any players or umpires and i hope that he is unable to attend any GSFL matches in this time.I really dont think he will play again when his time is up because with his attatude he may well be doing time else where

Hard to hold out much hope for the kid based on that. Team sport is a great teacher - but I'm sure his teammates parents are happy he is gone.

Hmmm I can still see it - I don't know why - but maybe it's because he has a 'mutual' friend with me.
