TC is a freak. 4 BOG's from his four games this year

Seen a bit of Great Southern footy over the years and you are right this guy is a one hell of a footballer. Played injured the first game, missed the second and been clearly the best the next three.

Hard to pick a GSFL GF at this stage. I think it will come down to injuries and depth, which makes me lean towards Willunga. If you check their B Grade results, they are winning easily and have quality to fall back on. Strath at full tilt are still a great side and were very good yesterday, but from what I saw they could not afford injuries in the A's. I was shocked and amazed when their B's rolled in with 13 or 14 players, topped up the rest with senior colts and got smacked up by a team, that didnt win a game last year. Thats never happened in my time as a player and could be one of the little differences in such a tight year.

Agree L.F. It looks to me Willunga and Strath may have come back around 10% where as the saints, bays, mclarens compass, creeks and us are all 20 to30% better with victor and yank about the same as last year. Dont be surprised if a there are a few upsets in later rounds. We the mudlarks should continue to get better as challen and gaskin recover from injury, and return to C.H.F. and full forward.

I don't think people have appreciated how big a win that was for Goolwa-Port Elliot in the 2's on Saturday.. The Magpies wouldn't have got within 15 goals of Strath in the last 5 years. Good to see them on the improve!

First b Grade win v Strath since 1996. First time our b's have won 3 in a row since 1996.

Congrats on the ressies win on the weekend lf you guys were to good, definately deserved the win. No excuses but that was the weakest team i have seen strath field in the b's in over ten years we only had 3 of our last year gf team playing. It seems that after losing three ressies grand finals in a row a lot of players have lost the hunger to go on playing, retired, or moved elsewhere. I suppose when you have 7 or so players each year missing out on grand finals or being dropped they just don't want to be burnt again. Hopefully things improve.

I was amazed to see how many new faces goolwa had in the a grade i reckon they would have had at least 12. I know that the local mckinlay boys are back, but they have done well to fit the rest in the points. Aren't players from amateurs worth 3 points? That means 4 or 5 new amatuer players if you are allocated 17 points don't know how the other 4 or so can squeeze in?

What position is he playing? - I dont remember anyone from Pongy standing out over our best few last week. (had the blue and white sunnies on though of course)

How are mclaren going this season, been away for work and missing everything back home are they looking like finals contenders? I know they picked up a few guys at the start of the season.

Some of the amatuer boys are from the lower divs, so they only attract 2 points and some havent played footy for a while because of work / overseas travel etc. Plus the likes of Wilson and Ewer are now 0 or minimal points because the length of time they have been with us

11 Players from last year and 1 of those (Zac Ewer) carrying 1 point
10 players played Saturday that are new this year, 4 x 3 pointers, 2 x 2 pointers and 4 x 0 pointers = 17 points played
McKinlays returning so both 0, Hank is 0 as he only played 2 games of Div1 Reserves for Henley last year (after reserves for the Eagles in 09). Another new player Ben Mahney (cleared last week) seems to have joined former teammate Hank ie D1 Reserves for Henley comes in as a zero pointer too. Seems Goolwa are onto a rich vein of zero pointers there! I don’t think a Div1R player should be zero points but that’s the way it is.

Rodney, i heard Willunga has already used their entire allocation of game day oil for 2011, therefore Wooly has had to move on & glisten elsewhere...

COE you must be having a lend......Don't get me wrong he was very good against Victor but if Leigh Ryan doesn't get 3 votes in that game then there is something very wrong. I'd say Jeremy Bell would get 2 votes and Carroll 1 vote. Carroll was very good early but had a quieter 2nd half which saw him slip down.

I think Goolwa are doing it right
Not paying for high prized recruits
Getting players there for the right reasons
Building strength down below, not only in the Bs but their U17s also undeafeted
With above comes a strong culture for the future ( or definately better than they had)

Will be a force to reckon with in the coming years
Congrats to the Commitee and those involved with the Football Department (even though its early days yet)

Its better than it has been but still need to win a grade matches.

Carroll would have (or should have) got the 3 in round 3 v Goolwa, however just remember who gives the votes. I don't know if pongy and Carroll have the reputation to get votes. Maybe now that he's been talked about we may of helped his chances from here on in

I agree with vulcan, Tom Carrol has clearly been the shinning star at myponga/ Sellicks so far and no one sees him slowing down any time soon.

But one of the handiest recruits would have to be big bad Ben Warren.. Classier forwad in the GSFL..? :D

It's only early so i wouldn't be handing anyone a mail medal yet. However Tom Carroll is a very good pick up for us at Pongy. He's probably as good as John Copping who i thought was the best footballer i've been involved with at the mudlarks. The Gsfl is full of gun recruits, is in as good of shape as the comp has been for a long time which is great to see.
On a sour note for us Michael "Turtle" Tomlinson snapped is achillies on saturday & at 30 is most likely to hang up the boots. Cant wait to have Challen & Gaskin back this week.

What's everyone's thoughts on the association squad named tonight? Will be very controversial couple of weeks with the league promising to ban unavailable players for 2 matches. I can't possibly see this could happen. The players involved have only been told 25 days out from the match. I'm sure like me that many would have already organized their long weekend.

Looks like a scattering of over 25's to me (Wilson, Ewer, Warren, Hately, Loots Kruger), but then you'd ask why Braidwood, Whiterod, Feast and McGregor aren't in????

Encounter Bay: T Davis-Neale; A Harvey; E Horrocks

Goolwa/Pt Elliott: Z Ewer; S Jones; H Wilson

Langhorne Creek: T Hateley; J Kellock; L McGregor; S Rothe; B Warren

McLaren: R Crockford; J Greenbank; D Loots; N Reily; C Scholar

Mt Compass: S Baulderstone; M Burdett; N Brokenshire; S Maxfield; Z Vitkunas

Myponga/Sellicks: T Carroll; T Howell

Strathalbyn: L Button; B Cousins; J Eagleton; S Elliott; S George; S Munn, B Nisbett; B Simounds; A Weckert

Victor Harbor: T Brown; M Hodge; D Iljcesen; L Kruger; L Ryan; C Simmons

Willunga:S Brown; B Haskett; D Irvine; B Miegel; C Paterson; J Standfield

Yankalilla: J Brazier; L Durdin; D Gordon; J Pratt; Z Perry; M Wilson

Thanks for posting that up LF. Seems like a good side (D Iljcesen is over 25 too I reckon).

I note one L Button named in there. I hadnt noticed him sneak into the GSFL till then (his clearance on SP came up after he played!). Sounds like a good get for Strath (unsure how he makes this squad so quickly though).
