he did a good job on Saturday - but in comparison to the other guy anyone would have looked good.

4. Imports - Don't get me started. It infuriates me how the league has stuffed this up so much this year. More than any other year I have heard complaints. The difference between this year and last year is that they have scrapped the population component and given every club 3 imps + an allowance for ladder position. Some of the smaller towns applied for extra 1, then every club did so the league then decided to give each team an extra import.

5. How Many Imports - This is why this rule is stupid. Using Mallala & United as an example. Last year Mallala allowed 4 and United had 6. Both teams make GF should lose one each due to higher ladder position (2008 they should have 3 & 5). New rule of 3 for every club + ladder position gives them both 4 for this season. Both apply for extra imp (I understand United reason is to put them where they should be) both get granted and now allowed 5 each.

Is this a precedent where if you win a flag you get an extra import whilst every other club loses one???????

1. How are we going to get it recinded? It will have to be weight in numbers to APFL.

4. & 5. The APFL should have undertaken some form of impact analysis on their new rules changes - clearly they have not. Were the wholesale granting of additional imports to each club because they realised too late that they stuffed it all up? I totally agree that Mallala gaining an additonal import spot AFTER winning a flag is just plain wrong.

Let me also add this - to remain a competitive senior league there is going to have to be further concessions across the APFL made for imports because a number of the better players will be leaving at the Senior Colts level when they come up against the ridiculous mercy rule.

Mallala were allowed five last year. At the start of this year they were assigned four (loosing one thats fair enough) then Virginia or someone requested another on top of what they were assigned. Mallala in thier wisdom stated that if other clubs were allowed an extra one to top up then why werent they. Hence they have five which is the same as this year.

so the skill level goes down, and you save money! that must be the deal of the century. get real swamp! they only sponsor the apfl to boost sales, work it out, a club would have to buy at least 20(min) football per season @ $70 = 1400 per club 7 x 9,800 at the minimum they profited $1800. Whenever the skills in the game go down, for whatever reason balls, umpires , poor policies and rules! so will gate takings. SO swampy how much coin are you saving?

Unless Mallala had better locals playing then they would not fill all import spots. Hopefully imports aren't getting a game purely on the fact they are not local.

Do you want a round one mate, with a net behind the sticks??????
Learn how to kick and practice it!!
So your saying if the SANFL league games used Sherrins the skill level would increase, cmon, i hope your not saying that your boys' skill level is due to the footys that are being used 2gd4u. Not a great image!
Im know for a fact that the majority of Mallala supporters will not turn away due to the poor skill level, and im pretty sure that any passionate supporter of any club who stops coming because of their teams inability to kick a 'slightly different' ball straight would be pretty rare. Does that happen out your way?

Your not serious are you jumbo!!!
If an import is playing poorly, he will be played in the B's without question. Its up to the club to recruit 5 quality blokes and if they cant get 5 (eg early 00's) then they go without. I think thats the most "common sense" approach. If one of those 5 is not holding his spot in the first 21 then i'd say he prob would not have been recruited in the first place.

Nah - it was a question - that's what I was hoping Mallala would be doing. I don't believe in filling spots for the sake of it - clubs should recruit what they need or currently lack. If that turns out to be 2 imports only out of their quota then good luck to them I say - support the juniors programs where possible.

I totally agree jumbo. I believe that if there were no imports allowed most clubs should be able to find adequate juniors to fill those 5 spots. Obviously the standard would drop a lot but the development of these players would definately improve. Im not sure that all clubs actually need 5. Do we really?? I mean im sure most clubs could get by, playing top class footy with just 2 or 3. Any thoughts?

Getting away with only 2 or 3 imports for every club would be fine if every town had a school and business' around it to support it. I think there is a case for more imports at isolated clubs like United because there just isnt the population to grab players from. If the import numbers were dropped then a club like this might have to start resorting to poaching players from other clubs to get by.

Like I said, I'm not sure what was wrong with last years system of having different clubs on different import allowances based on 2 categories.
a) Population
b) Position finished on ladder in the previous year.

The previous rules based on population and success rate seemed to work. Some clubs have 7 spots this year and this is probably too many. 7 out of 21 is 1/3 of the team. Could be another reason why some locals dont continue with their footy - no spots in the teams.

Speaking of imports I see Hummocks have got the big "Dipper" taking their training on the 14th May with a talk in the clubrooms afterwards. Full credit to Hummocks for this and I might head there myself and listen to the great man speak.

We had him at our club a couple of years back, well worth going along too. He is a funny bloke, with plenty of yarns to tell.
