Not matter what the SGL schedules there is always going to be a club that isnt happy with the draw, last year South played Lions 4 times, 1 more then every one else and Port played Sollies 4 times, also 1 more then the rest. It usually works out in the wash as most teams change over the off season, Who's to say that Centrals won't crash this year? take Port a couple of years ago, went from plaing in a GF one year to bottom the next[/quote]
True this could happen but in the modern age of trying to be smart about the financial viability of clubs and a vibrant competition there needs to be consideration given to struggling clubs to give them a leg up. In the AFL you have the draft and salary cap and the fixture is designed to help these clubs too. In local football there is the points system and I believe in leagues with split rounds it presents the opportunity to level the playing field in the fixture also, rather than relying on luck. (Most do this.) Your facts arent quite correct because each club plays two other clubs a fourth time here in the SGL so thats why I think the top 3 teams from the year before could play each other that fourth time and the same with the bottom 3 teams.Centrals, Port, West and South have been consistently in the finals for years. The first three teams are financial enough that they will always be around the mark when it comes to attracting players etc. (Lets face it Souths is only club other than Lions and Soliies that doesnt have pokies which is a fair effort to stay up there.) Yes Port may have dropped off for one year but how long did it take them to recover? Have Lions or Sollies ever been able to do the same in one year?? Im with Cella Dwella, on this one at least, that the SGL could do things better. Just my opinion and without bias. What do others think?
