Agreed. So many Gary Ablett's running around with no loyalty just trying to see who will give them the biggest pay cheque. Doesn't anybody want to play with their mates anymore?

Banker,
if you were in the situation where you were offered a substantial amount of money to leave your current club, would you consider it?

Yeah would $650 a game at Tailem Bend tempt you? Apparently is has to some people.

there is still alot of loyalty in footy. There would be plenty of players from blackwood, uri, onkas (maybe just klun) mt lofty mt barker who could get plenty of cash going further bush but stick around to play a good standard of footy and win flags. at uraidla they have had the mcleans, sutherland, vidic, eberts, down. or even young luke thomas who has been offered cash down town. all would be offered bigger loads to go else where but if u can keep these players then they become 0 point players and add massive value. the same with lofty wen they had trigger before he went overseas. maybe there is just no loyality when bridgy change their coach each year and have the worst oval in the hills, how could u put up with it for more then a year.

The old money topic comes up every season, players will leave for coin. Maybe with Lofty those rumours of players not being happy with Coleman going around again were true.
It also sounds like Bridgey need to announce a coach, otherwise there may only be a dozen players left for him to work with. Is the mass exodus rumour true?

The money situation is getting out of control.
Some blokes have one okay year and live off it for years.

Surely clubs need to wake up and pay the BEST players.

Each Saturday BOG gets most followed by 2nd, 3rd etc.

Getting $650 a game and if you play bad??

Surely not.

How about performance based contracts?
eg $100 a week to come and play for the club, then additional $650 for best on ground? 2nd best $400 etc? Or just $300 to each of the top 5 players?

C'mon Banker, Craig Smith would be playing with his mates if it wasnt for your clubs "incentives". I certainly do not put him in the category of chasing the biggest pay cheque, let me make that clear, your persistence and the Cheif's exit last year is what eventually got him to your club, one thing is for sure though, "he'll be back".

He is back, don't forget Craig played his first year of senior footy with Ironbank some six years ago with brothers Ashley & Brad. Maybe five premierships were enough and wanted a new challenge!!

i dont mind that suggestion, but what about say the winner of the BnF gets 15G, second gets 10G, thrid gets 5 etc etc... and there getting the money at the end of the year in 1 lump sum therefore they dont waste it during the year on worthless junk, with 15,000 that takes a fair chunk out of ur mortgage/get a new car etc...

i have just heard how much these players are getting and yes they would be silly to turn it down!
from what ive heard these players didnt shop themselves around, they were approached to come play for this team..

I think you'll find arguably the 2 best talls in the comp base themselves down at Balhannah Cricketlad

Why would anybody want to leave a side when you have played in that many flags? Bigger inconvenience travelling for a new challenge at a mid table club???? No way!! Smith must be on a very good wicket down there!

In my opinion, never right off any team 6 months away from the start of the season.
There is alot of recruiting still to be done, and with massive names leaving, surely will leave the devils with some cash to spend on replacements, if needed.

Can't believe lofty won the b grade flag in the hills comp this year. Saw them in a trial game v strath this year and they were very slow and unfit. I know it was a trial game but asked a few players if it was there best team and they said yes. You guys would struggle to make the top 4 in great southern, clearly a faster cleaner comp. Wouldn't rely on the reserves to help there a grade if players are leaving. Hope you've got good snr colts?

Deadset Cricketlad you Mt. Lofty lads are very keen on yourselves. If Klunnie is our only player worthy of a quid anywhere else then you have been impersonating an ostrich all season. I can't believe that you would make that statement when your club coach has thrown $$$$$$$$$$$$ + the kitchen sink at Chris Shee and he has signed with us because loyalty means something when you play for Onkas. Our club have plenty of guys playing for little compared to what they could get elsewhere but the reason we will now be a force in the competition is direction from our coaching staff, committment from our players and the burning desire to win a flag. We have the best young local lads who have had a year of A grade under the belt and a coach that shows faith in them.Onkas will be hard to beat in 2011 and if the players we have talked with sign look out is all I say. By the way we had 2 S.A. country representatives this year and they both go alright mate so I dare say they could command a $ or two don't you think????????

So Hahndorf would have finished 3rd or 4th in Southern in the A Grade because they lost by 3 points in a trial game to Morphett Vale and the B's probably 3rd in Great Southern based on their trial game against McLaren Vale (wont mention they had 13 senior colts playing that game), or do trial games actually mean nothing. I think they mean nothing.

I think you'll find cricketlad has nothing to do with Lofty, my bet is that he's from Uraidla as he always talks about them and seems to know a lot more about them than he does Mt Lofty.
