Also what would a player that played 4 years of seniors at a hills club then went to town to play div 1 then decided to return to the hills, what would his points be??

Under this new system if he played any juniors he would come back as a zero point player. Otherwise he would return as a 3 point player being that he played Div 1.

Interesting, so more or less you are only a local if you played Juniors at the club. i understand the reason behind the point system but its way too hard to find a way of implementing it fairly across the board, as they say, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

That is not the case if a player played 25 games for the club previously or it might be 2 years whether that be seniors or juniors he is declared a local so zero points

Not sure where you got that info mate. All the paperwork I've seen only refers to juniors and they must have at least played junior football at any one club for 2 years or more. Can you advise where you got that info from as the documents I've seen are from the Community Football Board.

It is my understanding that in the leagues already using this system, that once a player has been at a certain club until his points have been reduced down to zero he then is classed a local of that club. Therfore upon returning to that club he is zero points.

The minus one for an under 17 issue isn't that big a deal as most parents will have a say if they feel their son isn't ready for A grade.

Most clubs will have an under 17 who is ready for A grade, whether those clubs should be rewarded with an extra point i am 50-50 on that.

-I think it is a mistake to allocate -1 point for a senior colt. If you create loop-holes like this some clubs will exploit it to the detriment of the club (senior colts siting entire games on benches, or getting smashed by bigger bodies if they do play; disgruntled local players being forced into the b, c or no grade so that the A grade mercernaries/kids composite team can fit under the points).

-Hadicapping creates an unlevel playing field for the following season for one, and I think encourages clubs that finish on the bottom to maximise their next seasons points advantage through recruiting, using valuable club coffers to do so.

I think country footy as a whole should be applauded for trying to do somthing regarding the out-of-control spending we are seeing throughout SA footy and I hope that whatever the system that is implemented, that it is consistent accross leagues but also not set in concrete so that it can be tweaked and refined as officials learn more about it's effects upon footy clubs and leagues.

And a final thought: The Vic Amatueur league is totally amatuer, as in, noone gets paid. If that was somehow able to be implemented in amatuer and country footy it would be very interesting to see where players end up (probably at their junior clubs, or playing with mates). Secondly, imagine what footy clubs accross the state would be able to do with all their new found wealth that they are now saving! If you are wondering why your clubs opposition changerooms are the size of a broom closet, why the showers go cold after five minutes, why you are using a wheelie bon for an ice-bath, or what your best footy for training is a fifteen kg cinderblock, ask your president or the five gun recruits sitting next to you!!

Ummm.......Isn't that the point?? Try and even up competitions

A little off topic, but it might also encourage some players to stick it out with their SANFL clubs, helping the overall prfile of the SANFL because it would then mean more to be invlolved in a league club like 20-30 years ago, give kids coming through an opportunity to play with and learn from more good players, as well as perhaps the league by having some of these better fringe players putting pressure on blokes in the league teams. It seems these are the type of player that get the really big dollars in the country.

Trust me, the VAFA aint completely amateur and there have been instances where clubs have provided contra's such as school fees at OB clubs and money coming via sponsors without coming through the club. Every couple of years a club will get pinged for wrongdoing just to keep all of the clubs on edge.

I wonder if Coleman will stick around Lofty. Sounds like Happy Valley want him pretty bad and I'm told his son plays junior footy at the Valley.

What is Hahndorf oval looking like? Can't imagine it is going to be in too good condition with 3 teams still training on it.

Go have a look - usually one of the very best in wet weather as drainage issues were corrected years ago after a messy schutzenfest, IIRC.

That is true his son does play at HV and they have been in contact with him but he wanted to wait until finals were over - HV job advertised today and is a A grade/club coach position - wonder how coleman would go with that

interesting that valley replaced their b grade coach at the end of last year with a former premiership a grade coach - so this guy went on to coach mt lofty b grade in 2010 - valley got knocked out in the prelim yesterday whilst lofty b grade playing in the GF next week - did valley make the right decision??

What a great end to a very good season. A grand final between the arrogance of Mr Williams men from Mt Barker and the smugness of Mr Parkers cabbage cutting kings. Who do you barrack for when you don't really care. Hopefully they beat the crap out of each other and then it pours down again and nobody is there to watch. Outside of the 2 teams involved I do not think anyone actually cares.

Lofty should win the game of the has beens before the rain comes.

The 17's should be a good game now that Hahndorf have their 4 Sturt kids back this week. Hopefully they can get over the line and that will mean victory in the 2 games that really counted during the year. Will also hopefully teach our friends from Blackwood that they can't buy a premiership in that age group.

Should be a great conclusion to an interesting year and bring on TV next year.
