Glad this issue has been opened because it needs to be aired. All clubs have been cautioned on umpire abuse and the 'play by the rules' attitude. It has been discussed on this forum at length previously about how we need to curb 'abuse' towards umpires as without them we would not have a game. As a club we have taken this matter seriously and have made conscious efforts to ensure that the correct message is portrayed from the top down. Well................

The last two weeks I have been disturbed by the attitude of opposition clubs towards the officialdom. In almost all grade (well from under 15 up) there has been copious amounts af abuse hurled at the umpires from the coaches bench which has manifested itself onto the field via the players. 14yo kids telling umpires to f##k off and calling them cheats.....inspiring stuff all round.
Walked away from ravendale last week thinking it could not get any worse...well I was wrong.

Bad enough through the under 15's but what I saw in the 17's was the last straw. There is an old saying that you reap what you sew...well that was returned in spades yesterday. Continual tirades from the bench directed at the umpires, undisciplined acts resulting in costly free kicks...and then the two yellow cards. This incident happened right in front of me, and the umpire gave sufficient warning to the player (3 times loudly) to not do anything silly. All the while continuing 'egging on' from the LS bench.
And then for the coach to forcefully approach the umpire after the game (no wonder the 16yo umpire was worried) and the senior coach standing on the sidelines giving them a colorful spray as they ran off. This coupled with the under 17 coach telling our colts players they would 'get theirs' as they waited for the ressies to run out......
If you were part of this steakn then shame on you.....it was a disgrace.

Read the previous post btb, that was the only involvement i had. I'm not saying the behaviour of LS staff and players was acceptable, i was just talking about MY involvment in the shamozzle.

Fair enough steakn...the incident could have been handled a lot better by all parties involved.

The umpires were told at a meeting to clamp down on this type of thing 3 weeks ago. Bluestheboy I agree that the side you played is one of the worst offenders in this area and they need to make changes or face the penalties. I also like the saying 'you can't change a lepoards spots' which also applies to some rotten wood there.
Reports from ravendale was that the day had no atmosphere and it was a forgettable day at the football for all who attended.

Does PL footy really need the Tigers, after last years efforts I'd say no. It's a bye anyway, might as well just call the day off and go fishing!![/quote]

true true btb.. however shocking the umpiring supposedly was, still is very immature from LS coach.. as for steakn, his story does sound abit silly, but easy for the umpire to get confused in a shamozzle like that.. should be right steakn..

U/17s teams are hiding players so they can hold thier permits till the end of the season. Just a reminder that all permits are on a week to week basis bluestheboy.

The word from saturday night is that if we win our last two games, and waybacks don't win again, then we sneak into fourth.
But we haven't beaten MR this year, and LS did beat us last time.

I don't think we can call Tassies the wasps yet...

The $80 AFL Grand Final, all you can drink day at the Lincoln Hotel looks like a good day. I will be there. Should be a good atmosphere.

So by the sounds the umpire bagging continues locally. Shame on all of you!!

BTB you paint a picture as if Waybacks were the innocent party in the fiasco and have never done anything wrong in thier 104 years of existance.

Martin's comments in the paper today sounds like he has put up the white flag. Surely after a comment like that he wont continue coaching next season.
