A member of Loby team claimed the side in last round was the best they have had on the park in a few years. I expect them to be more competitive but probably not win any more than 1 or 2 games in 2nd half.

tips for the week...

Really looking forward to taking on Blackwood up there. We always seem to play well on that turf, and i also think without Gigney and a real desire to make up for our last outing means it'll be a lot closer than most will think.
Bridgewater vs Lobethal - just can't see Lobey winning too many which is a shame. I also think Bridgies will struggle the rest of the year... i reckon they played out of their socks for a couple of weeks and will come back a bit.
Hahndorf vs Uraidla - I think Uraidla have the best skilled team in the comp, and biggest bodies will make it tough for the magies
Ironbank vs Onkas - Ironbank in a close one, but i think the small oval will nulify shee a bit.
Mt Barker vs Mt Lofty - I think Mt Barker have the best drilled side i've played since being in Central, and probably have ever played.

Well they are my thoughts...

battle of the mounts to be won by barker. close game though. 4 goal.
ironbank to beat onkas by 8 points
handorf to upset uri
bridgy to beat lobey by 7 goal.
blackwod by plenty

I think this is one of the better rounds of central, i predict only 1 one sided game for the round the rest should be close and entertaining

Gents, bit bored at work so heres something thats been on my mind.

Golden age of the HFL

In my opinion, the HFL is currently experiencing the strongest the competition has ever been. Player quality coming into the leauge is staggering. Each team now has majority of players with SANFL experiance at some level, with even league B&Fs playing. But is it sustainable?

With the threat of relegation, all the lower central div clubs have hit panic stations this year, effectively being forced to spend far more than their budget on new players.

This tactic will work for all the clubs except obviously the lowest place.

So at the end of this season, these clubs that survive relegation will look at their books and realise theres no way they can continue to offer the same amount of money for their current players, and large numbers of disloyal players will leave.

I believe in 2011 we will see some A grade sides decimated to just the core of loyal teammates. I havnt seen the books but from what i can gather, my club could be one of them

Barker spent up on 2 quality players, the rest of the list played in 09. Not sure the 'spending' is as much as people think? Coach & recruits signed multi yr contracts.

Also agree that the HFL is at its most competitve right now. Standard only getting better each yr. Apart from the player quality running around, at least 4 teams are a real shot at winning the flag this yr.

Well yes and no. Yes we do you a lot of quality players who are local, however i challange you to find 5 of our A graders that dont get paid for showing up each week. After talking around to other clubs i think our spending is more then people think. I've always wondered who would stick around if they werent recieving their $150-$250 a week payments (let alone the well paid players)???

I think you will find all of the clubs pay 80% of their A grade players, even if its petrol money. The top 3 or 4 players at each of the clubs is very similar in quality. The difference between the top clubs and the bottom clubs is the quality of the next 15 players. From what i have seen of Mt Barker is their 18th best player is just as good as their 5th best player.

One person complains, makes national news, Dipper will now probably lose his job with Auskick.

Strange that it didnt make the news until Mal Browns comments...

Aceman- Pretty sure you have to apply by June 30 to go up the following season, not 18months.

Cheers for that answer.
Who was the "squealer" at Hahndorf. I would have thought that with the heritage in that town, name calling would be commonplace.
Not saying it's acceptable, but I've been called a "white pr*ck" hundreds of times but can't get on TV because of it.What's more, I don't even look anything like a pr*ck, white yes, but nothing more!

The Hills League Clubs are the worst for getting their results on sportingpulse. I think Blackwood is the only A-Grade result so far and they pumped Birdwood by over 10 goals.

Anyone got the Uraidla v Hahndorf result? Looks like it'll be a tight race for 5th spot the way things are going.

Can just picture in 5 years all 20 junior delegates sitting around with only 4 clubs having strong junior programs due to what this so called experts board came up with. No one seems to know what this mob talk about as nothing is communicated to any of the other 16 "outside" clubs. who knows what Matthews and co are conjuring up. Believe one central clubs junior delegate is starting to ask questions as to what this group of clowns are up to and that many other clubs are about to break their silence and voice their concerns as well.

Not sure what your point is - can you give us more detail?? Are you suggesting a bias towards clubs with excess or large numbers over smaller clubs?? If so, what is the threat to those smaller clubs??
