then called a draw due to differing scorecards -GF won after 2 x 5 minutes halves

Let me just run through what happened as no doubt all of you will have a say about this issue and I thought I would just get in early with the facts
Mid West on the scoreboard had won by 1 point and both sides had left the oval thinking Mid West had won by 1 point and a lot of the crowd had left.
However we had a situation where we had different scorecards from our 2 goal umpires thus leaving us in an awkward position of having to make a quick decision on what to do and it was deeemed by officials that we would have to go with the lesser scorecard (a draw).
This decision took about 10 minutes to make and then both sides were told of the situation and advised that we would have to go into extra time. With GF in front when that concluded.
The rumours floating around the Northern last night that players were in the showers and were drinking beer when we called them back out to play was untrue to my knowledge. I was told only a bit of strapping and a few boots had been removed at that stage when both sides were informed.
We then had another issue arise where we later that night found in the constitutuion that in any Saturday game we do not need to play extra time as it is based on points and percentage in the minor round (Sat). Therefore the draw should have stood and Mid West would have gone through to the final as they beat PL by more than GF did so they had better %. This extra time only applies to Monday games to finalize finishing positions for the carnival.
We then decided we would leave it as is and leave it that GF would play EE for the right to this years Mortlock in the late game on Monday.

Good luck to all sides for Monday

Does PL footy really need the Tigers, after last years efforts I'd say no. It's a bye anyway, might as well just call the day off and go fishing!![/quote]

The pinnacle of EP footy has now become a farce.. The authorities in charge who made this decision have a lot to answer for. Mid West have been very very harshly done by... What chance of the hierachy of GF doing the honourable thing and having Mid West play EE tomorrow for the Shield.. Not likely !!!!!!
Just be very bittersweet for GF if they win the game tomorrow.. Speaking to a GF player last night he was feeling a bit uneasy about it.. Its not his fault or any of the players..

So CU, you being a high ranking official of the PLFL, Do Mid West have a case to protest who are they being real good sports and letting it stand??

so what is the point of having a consitution if the powers to be are not going to abide by it. it is situations like this with the consitution needs to be followed. if it is writen in black and white it should be adhered too but it seems it may be written maroon and white come on mortlock committee who ever you are make the right decision based on the consitution and have the two rightful teams fight it out for the 08 mortlock shield.

what do you mean "written maroon and white"? don't pin this on great flinders. it seems like a massive stuff up that is in no way our fault

if that is the case DJD why dont the officals of th GFFL take it upon them self to set the record straight and allow mid west to play in the late game for the rightful chance of taking out the mortlock shield.

Port Lincoln patting each other on the back on the way off the oval after todays big win against a still drunk Far West thinking they had done well and GFFL holding the shield aloft when they shouldn't have even been there. 2 of the weakest things I have ever witnessed in football.

p.s Scooby your right. Im not going next year!

Great Flinders won.

Matt Parker possible broken ankle.

From what I was told the constitution was changed at a March meeting stating that there could be no draws on either the Sat or Mon and that an older copy of the constitution was floating about as well on Sat. What was written in the budget was sourced from the old constitution.

Interestingly there were no timekeepers available at the start of the PL vs GF game and only one person could be found at the last minute!

Congrats firstly to GFFL on the win and Feltus for his B&F award.
I think Darren Smiths speech was excellent when he stated that the game is alive and well on the EP and thanked his players for devoting themselves to the GFFL. We had some great games over the 2 days.
We did have a slight dilema with the draw on Saturday but an executive decision was made and all clubs have to abide by the decision. For you to say GF should stand down is stupid as we make the rules and will tell sides where and when they play. Mid West were fine with the decision except one particular official who went on and on trying to get us to change the decision.
The crowds were average but the weather saturday didnt help.

We welcome any comments you wish to make so we can improve the carnival in years to come.

perhaps CU the executive should make the right and hard decisions and maybe the one midwest official was fighting for what was right and just not just the easy way out and trying to keep great flinders happy

Response:- He plays in the midfield and goes good.

PLFL coach : " Its ok, we have plenty of midfielders"

Vonow played, did that have anything to do with you on the selection panel scooby?
