I'm sure they haven't started opening the envolopes yet WLF, as i'm sure the umps would seal them up before handing them to the league, as CU said from what he has heard kelsh would be leading the mm. Cu might be like a mushroom kept in a dark spot and feed on BS

I know this is a footy forum but i would just like to bring it to people's attention that there is a big issue going on in this community which i think needs to be discussed and people need to know about. it will impact this community greatly. Most people would know about it and would of heard about it but do you really know what it is about and what it will do to this community. i thought i did, boy was i wrong!

If you haven't guess it i am talking about the Centrex issue. there was a council meeting tonight about several issues and i think more people need to be proactive and get out to these meetings. I went to the meeting sitting on the fence, not caring about the out come because i DID NOT know all of the details and implications involved (and still don't) but i know where i sit. now! if you are not sure about where you sit i suggest to you people reading that you take the time to go to a meeting, hear the views and get a bigger picture on what this issue can do to this city. this would have to be the biggest issue in the history of this city and there would have been no more than 20 community members at this meeting. many people there where probably press, centrex metal informants, etc. for what it is worth in time, to sit for 1 to 2 hours and get the details straight from the horses mouth, not from the front page of the paper or two to three pages in, it could help this community greatly. do we really need it in our backyard!

i don't know what i am trying to archive here but i know a lot of people read this site and i know a lot of people that would not like this place to be turned into what it could.

sorry if i wasted your time, just felt like i need to get that of my chest.

I lost some respect for you after you hit Miller last year but you have gained a lot back after that post kocksy. Its a pity more of the youth of today dont care about the community and the town they live in. I hope your post makes them think about it as it has made me do.

The centrex issue, I can only see plusses.
I've lived in both Lincoln and Whyalla, I know how the steel industry works etc.
Having Centrex nearby will have astronomical economic benefits not only for Port Lincoln, but for the whole of EP.
Those with aesthetic concerns, well, they're generally ill-informed.
Whyalla is red because they put a massive big pellet production plant right next to the city centre. Mistake, clearly.
Having the product transported has minimal aesthetic effects, and if done the right way, can have nil effect.
Is the risk worth taking?
I would think so, with modern technology, environmental impacts are minimised.
If things are done correctly, this could be a big thing, Koksy is right, one of the most important decisions in the city's history.
There's a lot of ifs and buts there, that's the only worry, economically, the benefits are there, but the wrong infrastructure and transport techniques could f**k things up.
The real question is, does Port Lincoln need another industry?
Probably not at the moment.

kocksy CMH, u guys are just proving how narrow minded lincoln people are, Lincoln needs progress, unfortunately at this stage it looks like its going to be another lean year for the farming sector, what if this drought continues for a few more years, where are the farmers going to find support from, fishing industry? i think not. with strict rules and regulations that would be in place for centrex im sure lincoln will not turn into another whyalla which starting their iron ore mining in 1960's, we're nearly 50 yrs on. The fishing industry is not all clean and green like they have been BS bout they amount of plastic, rope, bouys ect that washes up onto beaches, dead fish floating in the water and eventually onto the beaches great tourist attraction, the sharks that r attracted because of these huge berly pots floating off of lincoln, not to mention whats happening to the sea bed and other wild fish stocks, Lincoln need to progress if not it will fall off the map. anyways i think its enough on that subject since we seem to get the centrex times every tuesday and thursday. PLAY ON!

I'm all for progress and definately helping the rural communities for sure, they have always given 100% to helping other communities and if having centrex around will help them its definately worth looking at. I am however concerned about the effect it will have on the environment and natural resources. I'm not that much of a stranger to Whyalla and round the original town centre is absolutely disgusting, i drove around that section about two months ago and it is a joke! Yes technology has changed and they say they can keep the exporting process clean...but I'm under the understanding that the Proper bay Wharf cannot give access to ships big enough for the transportation of the ore and that now poses the problem of having to ship it from the Proper Bay Wharf in barges out to the waiting larger ships in the channel which in turn poses another opportunity to have spills and dust issues straight into the water.(this is second hand info which i am presuming is correct). Its probably never going to happen because of the sheer logistics of it, but i would like to see a wharf or shipping set up out of Elliston or nearby because it is closer to the actual Ore fields and has deep channels running out of Anxious and Waterloo Bays. The Elliston community i think though would be opposed to idea for the same reasons we are. But that is my opinion anyway.

steakn your source is some what correct but it is all hypothetical at this stage as no plans have been submitted and thats why the motion to stop exporting minerals in pl was axed. the councilors don't want to jump the gun without all the facts. i dont see it possible for Port Lincoln, not at the wharf and if at the bhp site it will as steakn said have spills. you can have world best practices but you are still going to have spills. road trains through port lincoln every 18 mins... come on. not happening. the next thing that will go is centenary for a bypass.
