The GSFL comp set up is also obviously alot better.

Shoeboy you are deluded if you think the SFL comes close to the GSFL. This is my opinion 4 rounds in anyway.

Ahh Rodney you've lived a sheltered life my friend, Emu faithful flock to wherever/whenever, great atmosphere and great support at each and every game. Sunday's v the arch enemy i'm sure would compare to GSFL GF day.

Tiger 83 After reading that article on Myles Warmington how does he become a 0 point player. Played A grade in Ceduna won the medal but is too old for under 18s at Port Magpies plays as a overage player. All leagues he would be at leasta 2 point player like all the lads coming out of a under 18 comp . player in question for example would be Danny irvine playing B grade at Willunga cannott get a A grade game at the moment because of the point allocated to him. he paleyed A grade at Noarlunga last season still eligible for Colts football. Strange one. At this stage they cannot play all their recruits which is a shame.

Seriously tho, really looking forward to a ripping game of high class country footy... Maybe the SFL should take note of how to run a league successfully and create a great atmosphere... Anyone not doing anything Sat afternoon should pop in and have a gander at 2 hungry and skilful teams compete..

And grab a beer or 3 at the now undercover bar area in front of the changerooms...

Also lookin forward to havin a beer with ya after the game BJ... Ur shout i reckon...

Great atmosphere every game at the Shoe and it doesnt matter who we play!!
So you blokes win a game or 2 and your all that!!! havnt you been cellar dwellers for years and riding on the back of the comp?? How will u blokes go when the paid guns leave town!
Dont you have a bloke that couldnt get a kick in B grade footy for Brighton running around?

What is so bad about that. Brightons B Grade would go very close to knocking off your a grade this year and most definately would have last year.

THE OBSERVER every player has to be given the ok from the league befor he plays. not sure which club you support but you need to get your head out of your arse and get over it. its great that yank are strong again it makes for a much better comp. good luck to yank i say. you and everyone else that wants to bitch and sulk about yank need to grow up and just focus on making your own club stronger on the field and not knocking other clubs. everyone at our club cant wait to play yank and see what all the hype is about we want to be the first to knock them off top spot. HARDEN UP!!!! OR GO PLAY TOUCH FOOTY......

Yanks recruiting has been great not only for them but the comp. I know we've always said the comp needs a strong Yank and this year it looks like they'll be around the mark come late September. As for reality checks this week i think Yank proved last week they are much better than even you South are giving them credit for, a tough trip to Strath and to knock off the premiership favourites was a great effort on Straths home deck. I expect a well drilled Yankalilla side with a good structure and spine and a committed 21, sounds cliche but its a fact that theyve started the season very well, beaten teams well and sparked the comp into life. The Tigers will be a tough proposition this Saturday no doubt.

Apologies, they are "one of" the premiership favourites!

South, im not sure what your issue is but you've started very well on here, first im on bandwagons and now a tirade at a simple question!! Observer has just queried the points system and used young Warmington from Yank as the example as its relevant to the query about Danny Irvine. Just for interests sake when do you meet Yank?

I do agree with you about a strong yank, its great to see the tigers up and about early in the season!

I agree with you south it is great to see yank up and about.I do however think THE OBSERVER raises a very good point in regards to this points system how a player becomes a 0 point player after playing a season of A grade footy. I have seen the rules bent before by the GSFL in regards to clearance issues for players transfering from one club within the GSFL to another in the same season which i know 3 or 4 years back was unconstitutional (it may have changed) and yes that was a A grade player playing for a particular club then half way through the year decided he wanted to go back to his original club (Yank) clearance granted. People do need to get over these issues and go about making their club stronger but that can only be acheived if they are all on a level playing field with regards to the rules and regs stated within the constitution.

South I have hit at you the wrong way as my intentions was to understand the rulings on points system and how it works Having Yank as a competitive opposition to the senior club is fantastic for the GSFL and will help attract players to all clubs in that competition. I have had mixed reports on the point system and looking at the article on his medal win just prompted to ask how the system works for this person and not for others . There may be a simple answer. At no stage of the point I was trying to belittle Ryan Lewis effort in getting a side together. You would have to agree that by the way they have formed a side this has made other clubs become proactive in recruiting.

Lewis has done a great job with recruiting & finding little holes in the point system. I think we all agree that we would rather see this Yank FC than the one in previous years, great for the GSFL.

Just wondering what the chances are of Bob Willis coming out of retirement?? Been a huge servant for the Tigers & i know its only early, but this would be a great way for the big fella to go out if the Tigers played a part in september. Would still be a very handy HB/HF flanker.

great to see yank a handy side, but how long can a club pay this sort of money! Talking to a yank commitee member they have a great social atmosphere and good functions along with some good sponsorship but nearly $100,000 a year is a lot to pay out on players each year. Hopefully for yank they get a premiership (although some people will say they bought it) its more a credit to the blokes who have stuck around yank each year getting belting after belting that have made this club what they are this year.

Cough cough. I wouldn't think so Bays. $100,000 divided by 18 games = $5555 per game = approx. $264 per player, considering a reasonable amount would not be getting anything at all that bumps up the payments considerably for the elite in the side. Can't see any country clubs forking out anywhere near that much in player payments (perhaps Willunga  )

Yetti's picks for this week
Willunga to beat Yankalilla in the match of the round.
Langhorne Creek to just get over the line against Mt Compass in another crackerjack game.
Goolwa/ Pt Elliot to win against Encounter Bay in another tight game.
Strathalbyn to beat Myponga/Sellicks.
McLaren in an upset against Victor Harbor.

It's not close to 100k. I think the only one's to spend that much in the GSFL would have been the Bays back in 95 ;)

Port Elliot colours get a little bit of a run this weekend at Goolwa Oval for our heritage match. Expecting to see a lot of "old" Pt Elliot faces on hand to celebrate. Saturday's one off jumper has come up a treat

Just my opinion, but that looks terrible. Why not just make the decision to wear the port elliot guernsey for a one off week. Thats what other clubs have done prevoiusly. Woodville and west torrens spring to mind. Anyway, sounds like it will be a great day with a lot of old faces there. Good luck.
