Correct 'Mop Up' but being a Smith I reckon he'll be back inside 10 weeks.

was it money LF? i know yeowy but havent spoken to him for a couple of weeks and he seemed pumped for the season at goolwa. I thought he was better than a player who just played for the most $$$ (eg Marc Cox). If Nick has left does this mean Tom will be on the way out also?

Not much more to say about this issue . Yeoy has contacted all the players. there are few like myself that are yet to get his side of the story from his mouth because his calls are been screened til we cool down but.

1. Its been stated that money is not the issue (and there has been nothing untoward like us not paying them etc)
2. Having said that Brad has said that he is not enjoying his footy and wants a change to be succesful. This is contradicting because Ironbank are 0-2 with a 65 point average losing margin and they face the reigning premiers this week.
3. Tom wont leave they are not related.
4. The 2 others have not yet been able to be contacted, they are going as well even though just days ago they showed all the signs that they were happy to be here
5. I feel a bit for Gordon Tonkin (and others) because he put his balls on the line last year for us when Ben was having contract problems with South Adelaide and now the same situation is occurring and we are on the wrong end of the stick.

Not too much else to say I am still shell shocked because prior to this I would have rated Yeoy as the best recruit I have played with. Not the best player but as a whole package I couldnt complain with what he has done but this is certainly upset many people. Its only a game but its a kick in the teeth.

The positive is there are locals coming out of the woodwork to band together, Zac and Willow are going to hang in there and there are plenty of irons in the fire for 2011. The club offers a solid financial base, a great committee, a solid junior structure, a large supporter and sponsor base, the best social atmosphere, the best surface in the comp + much more. Will be an interesting 2010 and looking forward to Round 3 on the home deck against Pongy. Expecting a record crowd I would have thought.

The guys were great to have around the club, to all, Brad was just another local player (except he got some $$$'s). Nick and Ben both put their match payments from round one on the bar (and enjoyed the majority of it themselves). Things were all cherry ripe so a big suprise to see them up and leave. Surely success can't be a reason going to Ironbank.

The club will move on, we will have 21 fit players in both grades this week who will be playing to win and playing with pride for the club.

As for replacing the lads this season, watch this space.

Maybe a merger with the Port Adelaide Women's Football team is in order Damian. Might gain a bit more depth that way.

Good ol Ironbank made Craig Smith an offer he couldn't refuse, days before the first game.
Looks like they are at it again.
Why wouldn't you do your recruiting in the pre season?

Craig was made an offer before xmas from Ironbank and turned it down, a new offer was made when Mark Bradley left to go to Hamilton a couple of weeks from season start, which he accepted, agree the timing was not all that good but that is football these days, it is a cut throat business.

Western Border League one of the Victorian teams, they have two teams Magpies and Imperials, Mark Bradley went to the magpies, they got flogged last Saturday and I didn'T see Bradley's name in the best but he did play. They were beaten by Casterton who do not win many games these days.

It is always a concern when a large number of players come into a club in one year on the back of money that if things aren"t perfect they jump ship leaving the loyal hard working locals to pick up the pieces. This may not be the case here luvsfooty but over the years you see it time and again. On another topic how good are strath looking I see Wray and Sam Elliot on top of Reddon and Dellatore heve been cleared back to the club.

You sound a little bitter 'ol man emu' why wouldn't you recruit right up til the June 30th cut off date as the competition allows. I understand the bulk of recruiting should be done pre season but if a club is in a position to get players you get them. Ironbank signed Mark Bradley last year in Round 4... he went on to win the Mail Medal.

Think it is a bit rude to be taking a player from a club this stage of the year.
To take 3 players from a strugling club is rude and shows a lack of respect.
I'm sure Ironbank wouldn't be impressed if the boot was on the other foot.

A little random there ball breaker. Is there something you know that we dont?

Disappointing for Goolwa, very disappointing. I feel for Simon, hes a great bloke and puts in a lot of effort so to be rewarded like this must be shattering for him and the rest of the people who do the work at the Magpies. Good luck to the boys at Ironbank, if they are chasing success i cant see why theyd leave Goolwa to go there!

Strath are putting together a fantastic unit. Theyve added some stars to an already very very good side. The Victor v Strath game over the weekend wouldve been a great spectacle judging by the scores at the quarter time breaks, both sides will be right amongst it come September.

Well done to Pongy over the weekend too. A great turnout after the game in our clubrooms and im sure the favour will be returned at their home later in the season!

It looks like a few blockbusters this week in the GSFL.

My selections:

G/PE v Myponga - Myponga to get their first win for the year by 41-50.

Mt Compass v Encounter Bay - Mt Compass too much depth for the Bays, 51-60.

Victor Harbor v Willunga - the Roos will want to try and get a win against the league favourites after just going down to Strath last week, but Willunga should win by around 11-20.

Yankalilla v McLaren - Yankalilla at home will have too many big guns for McLaren, to win by 71-80.

Strathalbyn v Langhorne Creek - the result of this game will be particularly interesting between 2 of the form sides in the competition. Not much to split them, the home ground advantage may be the difference, Strathalbyn 1-10.

Got to agree limb. But you do have to love footy karma. I seem to remember the current GPE coach and Gigney jumping $hip from Encounter Bay to Goolwa about 6 or 7 years ago the week before the first round after having made a committment to the Bays to play again.
