vaughan here

despite the insipid start out at lobethal on saturday I still think we are a definate finals contender. with the a good bunch of recruits such as Malinovski (who learnt his trade at the feet of Porplyzia) and Barlow (brother of the fremantle sensation Mick) we will still win enough games to make the 5.
If big lynch cant get a handful of wins on the board with this playing group by the end of the courier cup rounds his a$$ will definately be on the chopping block!
RAIDERS till I die

Vaughan, please explain. If you can't beat lobethal, how do you think you're going to make the five?

hello dashin,
its a marathon not a sprint... and mark my words lobethal have improved.
they were really up for round 1 out on their own dunghill and with a lot of boys new to the hfl we simply didnt come to play and just lost to a hungrier team.
they just seemed to get more numbers to the fall of the ball and our wayward goal kicking didnt help.
lynchy will learn a thing or two from the clash as well and once the new boys get a bit of a taste for hills footy and start to gel as a group we will knock of a few teams.
hopefully we can use the confines of bridgey oval to our advantage as well and make it a bit of a fortress that visiting teams will fear.
to answer your question about us making the five i think a few teams are a little more vulnerable this year and you will see a lot of upsets. with loss of players i see lofty and hahndorf as very winnable games, as well as ironbank and birdwood who we will need to beat if we are fair dinkum.
onkas this week will be a great clash and i think my boys might surprise a few.
Raiders till i die.
V.

That is one thing Bridgewater does well - sheer cliff face on one half of the oval, rapids on the other and a stinking mudpit in the middle hahah no-one can escape that place

Been driving past Bridgy oval a bit lately and must admit its looking like Augusta National. Obviously the Raiders are also paying their groundsman well.

Classic Vaughan, we were looking for a bit of humour. I like you style of thinking when you say things like "lynchy will learn a thing or two from the clash" I mean why wouldnt he be learning alot from a bloke who has coached 1 game of football in his life (J. Aufderheide). Im pretty sure if you cant beat a side who hasnt won a game in two years you will definitely be top 2.
On another note where do you think the GF will be this year if you and Loby are going to be in it???

Yes Blackwood have picked up A Ridley from Edwardstown. One of the hardest running midfielders getting around. Will compliment "The Woods" already dangerous midfield very nicely!

Best onballer in the comp is a big call though. Where did he play league footy?

hello Fruit.
dont be ignorant.
lynchy would not be learning how to coach from Aufderheide, he is already a well established and successfull coach himself. lets not forget he took your team (a very weak onkas) to the finals last year. i was referring to the amount he would have learned from his new players. he tried a few men in different positions, made some mistakes, and saw how a few opperate under the pump. so in that sense he would have learned a lot from the clash.
i never said we would be top 2 i said finals 'contenders'.
the grand final will be held on lobethal.
stick to umpiring mate. it suits you.

Ironbank vs Birdwood - toss of the coin bankers just
Mount Barker vs Uraidla Districts - barker are a premiership threat with their recruits
some really evenly matched contests this week!

Blackwood v Mt Lofty think the Woods have to much class for the young Devils, but may be closer than expected. 10-20pts
Bridgewater v Onkas Raiders will compete well at home but won't get over the Dogs 20-30pts
Hahndorf v Loby the Tiges have improved but still wont get near the Pies 50-60 pts
Ironbank v Birdwood - Thunderers have some good young players & I reckon they will do the job at home. 20-30pts
Mt Barker v Uraidla Dist - Should be a good match with Barkers inclusions showing some form, but Uraidla again the team to beat. 20-30 pts

Blackwood - Comfortably, 7 goals.
Bridgewater - Apparently a few inclusions this week. Ruckman and Key defender amongst them.
Hahndorf - 10 goals
Birdwood - Either way, Roosters by 10 pts
Uraidla - Too well drilled for Barker at this stage of they year, maybe different later. 5 goals.

Also, does anyone know where Matt Cooper is playing? Was told by a mate he walked out of Tailem coz he thought they wouldn't win a game. Will he be back at The Nest or has that door well and truly closed?

Well I only got 1 tip wrong last week and that was probably because I was being biased!! From now on I'll tip with my head, not my heart ;)

Blackwood v Lofty - Woods too even all over the ground and will take Lofty a couple of weeks to get their team balance right with a few ins and outs. 31-40
Bridgewater v Onkas - Onkas way too good. Another year of Bridgy's talking themselves up and failing miserably. 41-50
Hahndorf v Lobethal - Pies will be too strong. Lobey did well to end their run of losses but baby steps for the Tiges. 41-50
Ironbank v Birdwood - The Roosters should bounce back from their dismal 2nd half last week but will be a close game on the postage stamp. 11-20
Mt Barker v Uraidla - lock in the Cabbage Cutters for the premiership right now, the only way they won't win the cup is if they're decimated by injuries, and even still, they have great depth which will be hard for any club to beat. Barker will be much better than last year but I reckon they're still off the pace compared to Uraidla. 21-30

Is that taking into account the 3 years at Aldinga where he won a total of 8 games??????????? Let's not get carried away about his (your) time at Onkas either - they were on the verge of the 5 and with the addition of Klun, had everyone expecting a far greater charge at the finals. A different coach at Onkas would have kept - Gardner, Dubois, Russell, Russell..............

Watched the Onka v Thunderers game last week. Onkas killed them off early and coasted home after half time.

Can't see the Raiders getting within 5 goals. Onkas were a 10 goal better team than the Raiders last year and have picked up some good recruits. If the Raiders can't beat Lobethal, they won't beat Onkas.

As for Shane Lynch, as I've posted previously his time at Onkas was undermined by a lack of support from some senior club officials. He's not a bad coach but was in trouble at Onka's when he refused to let others pick the team for him.

Onkas real test yet to come. Can't wait for games against Roos and Woods.
