You'll have to ask the Shanahans that. Or whoever it is that bankrolls FFC. Depends how you measure success FF.

quickly forgotten that they did play in 3 g/f's in a row. the team that lost to williamstown the first time was one of the best country football sides ive seen(no doubt most expensive) too. But i reckon they probably deserve a bit more respect than what you've shown.

Totally agree Vilidog..
Scott leal and his mates were a quality outfit and one that should be respected. I suppose when all is well and there winning everything seems to run to plan.. I guess a few freeling ppl just didn't like losing therefore think they have thright to have a go...

Vili
Fully respect Freeling, so dont get me wrong there
Just when the BIG games came ( GFs ) they were let down by the SANFL has beens
Yes agreed the Barossa District side was a good outfit, but i question your inuendo about being the most expensive
I reckon Freeling owned that honour through those years
Barossa in that first year had 5 Imports ( Christie, James, Noonan, Turner, Spicer by memory )prepared to Freelings 8 ( Leal x 2, Cornelius, Fowden, Roberts, Lamond, Byrelee, Clark ...how many of these played well in said GF )
Admittidly a Few locals came into side though ( Silvy, Commane to name a couple )
It didnt show in the next years GF but i thought Barossas side the second year was better outfit
cheers

Footballfollower you are not the first person i have heard say Barossa had a stronger TEAM in the second year. Last year they still managed to make the GF but couldnt pull off a triple premiership.

If they have managed to shake off some of those in house issues i think they again will be the team to beat ... along with Tanunda.

Thats the beauty of football for you FF. had freeling pulled one win out of those 3 g/f's we wouldnt be having this debate. You have built shrines to those ex sanfl "has beens" turned heroes and the concept of paying big $$$ for those old boys would have been unquestionably successful. the difference that one win in football can make hey.

Not going to debate who was the more expensive of the two sides in that year. if you read my last comment closely i did suggest that freeling was the most expensive side but i really wouldnt know. and number of imports doesnt necessarily equal number of paid players at the club. try telling me that the stelzers, sharp, that big fat local ruckman (cant remember his name) kept turning back the cash offered from the riverland, etc each yr too play in the marshlands for free. For mine Freeling was the best footballing side that yr (anyteam that can have chris stacey running off a wing is magic), williamstown just bashed them into the ground on g/f day with their team full of 6"3 brick sh!thouses. the next year may have been a different story

Yes one GF win makes a world of difference, providing you win one
Stacey you are right, very good
Yes Barossa had a multitude of " brick shit houses "
The steltzers sharps and i think you may mean chamberlin were offered big money no doubt to leave
At which being a local living in town would be hard to leave because of family friends and work etc
Understand chamberlin has moved to Victoria to be with his mother and the 2 steltzers this year have gone to
Renmark ( where their father lives) for the centenary year.....perhaps money is the issue there
cheers

I dont think the Steltzers are the type of lads that chase coin... They have probably been offered a packet, but I dont think that would be the reason they would leave...

Who will ruck for Barossa if Chamberlain has left... With Spicer gone also...?

They have lost their height advantage with James going also....

Outs:

Thomas
Steltzer M
Steltzer P
Spicer
James
Chamberlain

Please correct that if any are wrong, or you know of any more... Hard to replace that group...

The other out is the lad that played back last year 6'1" from sturt the year before, gone to Melbourne

Barossa and Freeling have had their time in the sun and they won't put sides like that together again in the next 5 years, its just a pity Freeling couldn't 'pinch' one to savour the moment.

Agreed, you could chalk down 4 wins just with these names in your side.

Christie may not be over the line as yet to line up with the Bulldogs. This would be a monstrous loss to them if it happens...

Why wouldn't other teams. Worth the money to attract somoen like that to your club. IMO easily in the top 5 players that play in the league. Not many guys can play tall and move as well as him. The supercoach down there would be under pressure if he indeed move on...
