Sorry mate - Not going to East Murray -Reckon i'll go to Chowilla for bbq and few frothies

Fair call! It's a huge trek. You'd think Lyrup would get a decent crowd though.

Why would anyone wanna watch that one-sided affair, surely they would all be lining up to watch the fluffy ducks now!!!

How the hell can wunkar lead by 34pts at 1/4 time and lose by 113pts,
147pts in 3/4 is atrocious. Apparently, 14 of the lyrup players arrived at 1/4 time after the people on the gate had left.

What is the deal with umpires in the Riverland not being able to take the slightest bit of criticism for a decision.
One word (not even a swear word) seems to cost you a 25 metre penalty.
It seems you cannot even ask questions such as 'was that too high?'
On the weekend a player gave away 25 for a frustrated grunt!!

I know. It's terrible.
I got a free kick given away against me against Lyrup last week as a water runner talking to a player!
All I said was "How did he not see that headbutt?" to one of our players.
Umpire TB charged in from 50 metres away to give a free kick to Lyrup down the other end in their goal square.
Cost us a goal.
He then came into our rooms after the game and interrupted a private conversation about the bloke who was knocked out to tell me "You don't learn do you?".
I just walked away before I said anything I'd regret.

I'm presuming it was TB who was doing the same in your match.
He's got an ego on him that bloke and it's all about him on the field and not about the game.
I know Father Steve has been told about his antics, but it's about time he something was done about him.

How even is this competition. anyone on their day can take out this comp and i noticed in the pioneer today that Renmark are only one win out of the top 4. Will be very interesting to see how they go against Loxton this week.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Is this even comp a tribute to the points system? Or is it just one of those freakish years?

Yep, don't be surprised if the winner comes from 3rd or 4th this year. Expect Loxton to come home with a wet sail with some players to come back before the major round.

UMPIRES - Arrrrrggghhh

Firstly - I know how hard it is, i know we need them, i know they must exist and be respected blah blah - i understand ALL THAT

BUT..... NOTHING infuriates a player more than, in the heat of the moment, after something wrong has occurred, and EVERYONE at the ground saw it EXCEPT the umpire, the little weedy, jockey voiced, red-headed step-child (in some cases), pimply faced, un-talented , blind, ego-centrical WANKER....steps in and speaks to you like a schoolboy - and tells you to settle down.

Are these guys trained in how to NOT infuriate players???

i have much respect for a lot of umpires (Todd Charlton is one), but no-one that has ever played footy can say that there aren't absolute wankers out there, who in my opinion, are scared, weak individuals in everyday life with no friends, who enjoy nothing more than bossing around bigger, more talented blokes than they will ever be. HARSH?? or TRUE??

Again, its not the majority, one might even say that there is an even distribution of knuckleheads playing as there is umpiring. But they have to show restraint.

I have personally been rubbed out for 1 week for swearing on-field, and I will go on record saying that i've heard just as much (or worse) swearing coming from certain umpires.

Players cop abuse from spectators also, and are expected to remain calm, and they dont get paid to do it either.

i have played nearly 400 games of senior footy in my career, and i've seen just about everything. I believe that a lot of umpires these days, dont report players or pay certain free kicks that they indeed saw. For whatever reason i dont know, but i've been there just 2 feet away and directly behind umpires when this occurs and I KNOW they seen it, i look at them as if to say "WTF?" and they look away guilty as if they know i saw them not do anything about it.

Certain umpires are BIASED beyond belief and others would be punched in the face on the street if they spoke to people the way they do at times.

Im sorry, i know this sounds awful, but to read the pioneer and hear the whingeing, i just had to vent.

Umpires are like parking inspectors, tough job and someones gotta do it, but if you cant do it, THEN **** OFF and let someone that has more maturity and can handle a bit of abuse do it.

The day that an umpire actually gets beaten up after a game locally, i will retract these statements and say there needs to be a change in the rules to protect them more, but for now - GET OVER YOURSELVES YOU WHINY LITTLE GIRLS!!!

Umpires have been beaten up locally, Ox.

That's the problem right there DW. If we bag them too much we'll lose them.

But, what's good for the goose should be good for the gander.
I've copped crap from umpires on the field before and if it'd been the other way around I'd have been reported.
And like Ox said, most of us cop crap from supporters while playing and the majority of us aren't getting paid to be out there.
I'm only talking about a select few here who are giving the rest of them a bad name.

I know some of those umps you're talking about ;)
I'm no angel but there are levels of abuse people shouldn't go to.
And, I reckon there's a valid point about what's being said by supporters too.
Baron, you would've copped much of the same carp I did when playing and you just accept it as part of life.
Having played a bit of footy in the city this year, I've been surprised at how restrained things are verbally (to players and umpires) compared to here.
That's probably more to do with the fact that here we all know (or think we know) each other - familiarity breeds contempt is the old saying.
