To date i dont think that crowds would be any bigger than what you would see on a standard Saturday and they are not likely to be better next week because the Crows have the Saturday afternoon timeslot.

Just quietly any Jake McMillan critcs would be silenced today. Played an absolute blinder. I counted 19 of his marks, 13 contested and 2 goals. Senior colts alone is worth the entry fee.

Until they move ALL finals back to Encounter Bay, Goolwa & Victor the league will continue to get very poor finals crowds. The population (25000) are around these areas, when you only got 1500 living in Strathalbyn or about 100 in Myponga. No one like to travel these days to see a final 1/2 an hour away.

ie. You don't see the AFL using Marnika Oval in Canberra or Launceston in Tassy for FINALS!

K.C. it's time the Finals were ALL back on the coast!

1500 in Strath??? I think you'll find it's closer to 10500

And there would be 30 000 at a guess in the 'Southern Vales' (Willunga/Myponga/Yank/McLaren) area.

I'm afraid your argument doesnt stack up there my friend - although I do think Encounter Bay is the best venue for a GF.

Too true about the best venue for the G.F. Completed a little research - Strath has a population of 4500 - I apologise to those Strath people. (Still closer than you!)
"Southern Vales" is not a town - If you are going to talk about an area we might as well
you might as well included Adelaide into your area so 280,000 people of about 1000
might venture to Strath, L.C., Myponga or the Vale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BRING BACK THE FINALS TO THE COAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously whats the big problem with finals being moed around all over the GSFL?
if ALL the finals were on the coast, what about all the McLaren, Willunga, Myponga people who have to menture there. it works both ways.
Its good to have a change every year

:)

The best venue for the GF is Strathalbyn and Yank. Theres no way the South Coast provided the same atmosphere as Strath and Yank did (Victor and EBay being the examples i have). I like the way the league has decided to share the GF between all the clubs, its a great initiative and come late September all the ovals are in good nick and ready to have the biggest game of the year played on them.

I think Mclarens will be a great venue for it. Being close to other leagues and being 5 mins away from the edge of the SFL Boundary we may find we attract a fair few football followers from the SFL who despise their GF being playing at Hickinbotham Oval.

Agreed.. Strath was an amazing atmosphere as everything was close together. I think all the grounds like McLaren for example will have a similar atmosphere. Grounds like the bay and victor are too spread out.
In saying that last years atmosphere i think was shocking as only half the ground could be manned. But i think this year down at McLaren should be amazing. A lot similar to strath i think.

Yeah Cyclops both are still involved at the club. Paul is the Junior Coordinator and doing an outstanding job with the kids. We have a great crop of Under 9s, 11s and 14s coming through and the future looks bright.

Both have sons playing at the club with Dennis' son playing A grade in his first year out of Senior Colts and will be in the mix for a spot next weekend. Pauls son Ryan plays Under 11s and by all reports (most from Paul himself ;) he is going to be a very good player!

When will the SFL change the GF back to the suburban grounds rather than at Hickinbotham?

*I think you will be at the SFL game tho Cyclops, I cant see anyone beating Morphett Vale again this year.

STRATH  Surely the oval surface and playing conditions are more important in hosting a grand final than atmosphere. Straths oval surface is a disgrace. Large bare sandy patches are still there that were there 8 months ago and when it rains it become a bog.

And as for atmoshere, There is NONE bcos Willunga keep flogging sides in Grand Finals. ;)

BJ I agree whole heartedly, Yank is a great ground only thing letting them down is the visitors facilities... encounter bay is a hole of an oval every grand final they've had there its blowing a hurricane and doesnt make for best standard of footy that spectators want on grand final day. Mclarens will be good and they will put on a good show. Let the big boys at it cant wait.

Strath oval is far from a discrace Jackpot, there has been a huge amount of work done to the oval since last season. A draininge system was put in early this year to remove the surface water and avoid the bog heap that the oval was during late 08 season, i think this year the oval has held up rather well especially with the rainfall that we have had over winter. As for few sandy patches there needs to be some slack cut there as it is pretty hard for the grass to grow in these parts with continuos training and games being played.
I think you will see by next year it will be one of the best if not the best surfaces in the competition.

Myponga oval will have a great surface saturday with no rain this week. Being a good sized oval it should provide a great spectacle. Just wont see half of it if you are sitting in your car.

LF visited Goolwa Oval this morning to take this marvellous picture of the immaculate Goolwa deck. Juniors still training on the oval and hosted the hockey finals on Saturday so is still being used, and doesn't it just look a million dollars!!
