It would suprise me if Langhornes played any Senior Colts in the A Grade. I don't think any of them are good enough especially in a finals game.

Back to the Ben Princi topic does anyone have any serious information on his plans for next year? Is Encounter a serious prospect for him?

Just quietly any Jake McMillan critcs would be silenced today. Played an absolute blinder. I counted 19 of his marks, 13 contested and 2 goals. Senior colts alone is worth the entry fee.

Until they move ALL finals back to Encounter Bay, Goolwa & Victor the league will continue to get very poor finals crowds. The population (25000) are around these areas, when you only got 1500 living in Strathalbyn or about 100 in Myponga. No one like to travel these days to see a final 1/2 an hour away.

ie. You don't see the AFL using Marnika Oval in Canberra or Launceston in Tassy for FINALS!

K.C. it's time the Finals were ALL back on the coast!

Good topic Signman, it will create a discussion, but disagree entirely
May as well get Milang and Port Elliott back in the League and ride our horses to the games.
We have moved on from that era for the better.

1500 in Strath??? I think you'll find it's closer to 10500

And there would be 30 000 at a guess in the 'Southern Vales' (Willunga/Myponga/Yank/McLaren) area.

I'm afraid your argument doesnt stack up there my friend - although I do think Encounter Bay is the best venue for a GF.

remembering in the normal season that there are big crowds probably coz of the netball, then for me in the finals if the crowds are the same as wot they are during the normal season then that would say to me that the footy crowds are much bigger due to the fact that in finals netball is at a different location to footy finals.

That's a ridiculous post Signman. You are a knob. Maybe you should research your info before you start posting crap like that. There were about 10 people at the first final at Victor and I'm sure there will be a lot more than that at Pongy and there were heaps at Yank on Saturday.

I've been to every match of the 2009 finals series so far and I would estimate that the size of the crowd on each day would be in the following order from biggest crowd to smallest.
1. Langhorne Creek
2. Yankalilla
3. Strathalbyn
4. Victor Harbor
I think Yank and Strath could be swapped around, they were pretty close.
I don't know if it just looked like there were a lot of people were at Langhorne Creek because its a smaller ground but I was really surprised how many people were there that day. Strath were playing in 3 of the 4 grades so that might have had something to do with it being so close by.
Obviously the weather was pretty average the day the footy was at Victor which would have turned a few people away.

Too true about the best venue for the G.F. Completed a little research - Strath has a population of 4500 - I apologise to those Strath people. (Still closer than you!)
"Southern Vales" is not a town - If you are going to talk about an area we might as well
you might as well included Adelaide into your area so 280,000 people of about 1000
might venture to Strath, L.C., Myponga or the Vale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BRING BACK THE FINALS TO THE COAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to add a little more information to this argument, the Goolwa Oval is looking immaculate at the moment!! The hockey finals were played there Saturday and Mick Molloy would have been happy with the way the 'green' rolled!! Anyone that gets the chance to play cricket there this summer will be stoked!! Plus how's the water feature in the pond!!

Signman is correct yet again!
Willunga, Vale & Langhorne Creek All too far away for the main population.
Yankalilla, Myponga, Mt. Compass & Strathalbyn are Mud holes & not the best to play finals on.
Goolwa Oval - Small & Also have below standard catering facilities.
Thus leaving Encounter Bay & Victor Harbor are the best choices for the FINALS.

Better still if the GSFL took over & re-developed the Port Elliot Oval just for Squad trainings,
Association Games & Finals. I would be a total neutral venue & the league could design it to
AFL standards & intice a NAB Cup game to the coast!

If Southern Vales isn't a region, then the 'The Coast' isn't a township. If you are going to argue The Coast then you need to compare it to other regions not townships.

If you split the GSFL into it's 3 major regions - South Coast, Strathalbyn district (not township) and the McLarenVale/Yankalilla DC area I think you'll find that the South Coast is not, in fact, the centre of the Great Southern universe.

I like to think the catering at Goolwa is a touch above Victors, for starters you don't have to dodge vehicles behind the clubrooms, out by the public toilets to get a bite to eat!! Very nice verandah at Goolwa to keep the visitors dry incase of rain, an awesome BBQ and both an upstairs and downstairs bar... Sounds pretty good to me!!

And yes signman, water is returning to Goolwa. The river is almost covered and the depth should return in the near future, looks a damn sight better than it did a month ago, quite amazing actually!!

With the extension of the lake that is not a silly question!!

Car parking has impoved with trees being removed from the lake end where the swamp land has been filled to build new netball/tennis courts at a later date as well as freeing up car parks.

Not entirely sure how the GSFL works, but I know in other leagues the rotation of finals venues and particularly the GF, is a massive money spinner for individual clubs and makes life easier for the next couple of years.... I think taking that away from some of the mud holes would eventually ensure that some clubs continually prosper while others will not, ie Paying players etc....
