hunsie is in the B grade again this week. very handy for the URI B Grade to have him up and about. you would think he will kick alot of goals this yr if the team gets it to him often enough. He adds alot of class and experiance to a very very young side.

Was at subway on saturday night and even though a lofty man was impressed by the attitude of the young thunderers. Gaz has them on the right track and with experience they will upset a few teams this year who let their guard down. You cannot do a lot about the physical aspect but their skills and pace will hold them in good stead. I would say they are where we were 5 years ago. They have the right coach and they have the kids. I will watch with interest and can't wait to see how some of the other kids go. There is nothing better than watching true blue hills talent develop regardless of club. Go you devs

Pretty sure 6 17yr olds played Saturday  (sully, amos, copeland, vanparidon, dawkins, pope)

Then theres still Shearwood who wants to play when sturt finishes up, and Spacie was out at training last night...

Future looks very bright :)

That sounds great for the club, hope all the young blokes hang around.

Hope this doesn't come across wrong but can these young blokes actually play? All good and well to have lots of juniors playing up but doesn't necessarily mean they are going to amount to much.

I'm not having a crack at Ironbank so don't get me wrong just curious is all. The majority of clubs at the bottom end of the ladder in most leagues tend to have quite a few juniors in there sides but doesn't always mean they are young guns, sometimes it is just they are the best of not much.

From what i saw a few weeks ago they are good size kids that move alright, but i have only seen 1 game.

Good sized kids? There was a kid playing on Sat night that looked like he was at most 8 years old, and a small 8 year old at that! A couple of those young blokes looked completely out of their depth and I was a bit worried that someone could have gotten seriously hurt, could you imagine that Pope kid stepping in front of DK or Pipes Stapleton at full pace?

Well theyre all mostly from the Sturt underage sides. All wouldve played down there this year but I think ( not completely up with it all) cos of the 6 game comp for under 18s or whatever they are playing up at IB.

Not exactly right... Theres the core group of about 12 that are 21-23 all from the colts teams in 03/04 and then there are the 6 17 yr olds from last yrs colts. Plus a couple of old farts ;) but yeh youngish team... just hope they can stick together and build into something... its a good two to three year process i guess

Mmm think its more to do with the condensing of the u17s and u19s comps into one team of 18s that has forced them to play up at IB, pretty sure none of them would turn down a game at sturt...

I'll take a thousand on ya call re the senior colts. Your colts won't go close. You played a top 3 team last week and lost at home. How many did big Liam kick that day (2). You have beaten the bottom 2 teams. I could kick 10 goals against a 14 year old opponent too and I'm 55. I will be Happy to see you at Subway stadium and have the wager on your next visit to our joint. I have watched much junior footy over the years and if the better forwards are'nt playing at league clubs or in A grade by this age (17) they tend not to advance. It is not wise to big note kids on forums as only one thing will happen. Junior footy in the hills is alive and well.

Firstly Goldenboot, as a spectator, not actually directy involved with Birdwood FC- my OPINION from what Iv'e seen this year is that Birdwood senior colts are a very well-rounded team and in my OPINION will be the team to beat-(although yes, they did lose a sitter in round 2-which has cost them top spot.) Liam Davis is the best forward in the comp by a country mile, as he was last year too. Your argument wasnt great either- The 'putting yourself in Liams shoes' example was ill-conceived, and more importantly Uraidla (5th) and Bridgies (8th) arent the 'bottom teams'- so unless Liam gets hit by a truck, the real bottom teams are stuffed. Mt Lofty might only be one spot behind Birdwood, but theyre also only one spot above Uraidla, so i'd put that thousand back in your pocket for now....

An interesting round coming up this weekend. Hopefully a few good (and close) games.

Birdwood V Lofty - Tough start to the season for the roosters with Uraidla, Hahndorf & Lofty in the opening 4 rounds. Win against Raiders last week will provide confidence, but I can't go past Mt Lofty. Still consider them the measuring stick. Roosters to put up a good fight, but Lofty for mine by 7 goals.

Lobethal v Bridgewater - Good test for both sides. Can't see either side playing finals this year, so both will see this as an opportuntiy for a win. Tigers with a few out still but reportedly put up a good fight at Hahndorf in first half. Bridgie appear to have a few more options and should get over the line by a 3 goals.

Mt Barker V Hahndorf - Traditional rivals and usually a good contest. Mt Barker coming off a tough couple of games and Magpies finally coming up against a side that played finals last year. Magpies are a tall side but still a lot of improving to do it would seem, this combined with Roos having played tough games against Cabbage and Woods in last 2 weeks and maybe a couple of inuries to deal with. Pies by 6 goals.

Uraidla V Blackwood - Match of the Round. Two sides with sights set firmly on finals this year. Sides appear to match up quite well, duel in the mid field will go a long way to deciding who comes away with the points. Leaning towards Uraidla at home....just. Uraidla by 8 points.

Ironbank V Onkas - Onkas have impressed so far after many had written them off over pre-season. Ironbank are a young side, and will provide a challenge but can't see them being able to cover all of Onkas key play makers. Their best chance probably lies in a) tagging Klun and b) making it a real scrap on the confines of the 'thunderdome' (although don't support these tactics). Onkas with too much class will win out however. Dogs by 8 goals.

Hopefully the rain stays away so we get some high scoring shoot outs!

I hope it belts down Pete. There was nothing better than sitting down watching the collingwood essendon game last sat and seeing the pain in some of the Lofty boys eyes of having to go out and play in the wet and cold. Classic!

You must have been watching the wrong game then mate, conditions were pretty good on saturday night, I don't think there were too many complaining about a 10 goal win.

Firstly on the Liam Davis topic, he is ok but its senior colts football in the hills, not very strong! All the good players are in town. I dont think people like patty mcswain, fleet, schnieder, work, pistola, thomas and needham dominant in seniors after kicking bundles of goals in u17s. he too is big for the grade and i think he will struggle when he hits seniors with people his own size.
ironbank A grade, the young players are crap. pope is good but to small, o'sullivan is the best of the bunch but the others are just average players, dawkins i think may be ok, but the rest will just be average A graders

things look very good for ironbank with all these young lads coming through but id have to agree that they got bodied out way to easily and i think thats going to hurt them all year, they also have no forward line, what happened to graetz and naughton ???? manno looked alot better than in previous years against lofty but needs support

On the pine - Happy to take your money. Wait till the end of round 9 and get back on here with your money re the 17's. The others are right any of the good kids that make it are down town. Liam's a big lad and a nice kick but you only have to look at the semi last year when it counted and he had 2 kicks. Time will tell. The other kids that kick goals Tarca from Mt Barker is at CHB and Shearwood is at sturt and he plays centre now. He would have won last years senior colts but missed 11 games. He has clearly been the best forward in junior footy in the hills since young Pistola. Kicks goals in Reps games and finals as well. Should be a good even comp out of 5 fairly even teams. Good luck to them all. How many of those Ironbank kids can actually play 17's now but are'nt ? 5 I think, so don't get too cocksure of yourself splinterman !!!

shearwood would is a good ball getter, hes not even in the same league as pistola was in under 17s, i think pistola needs to teach him how to kick, i watched a assoc game lst year in the barossa and he had 40 touches, 15 helicopters, 10 mongrel punts, 10 finger breakers, and 5 handballs!!!

agree with u there silky. pistola a class above sheerwood. just doesnt have the skills. just wondering when we play lofty, what type of defender would u play on him? tall or small? cause he is quick, elusive and can mark above his head. alot like brown of uri and gags.
