It isnt looking good for bridgey, no money, no good local talent, well not enough, i am a firm believer and so is robby that they will go to div 2 or "country division", they have done better then most thought they would this year, but still not enough to lift there profile.

Hahndorf were paying in the 80's :o , shame on you ! I would think you would then have been one of the first to pay players in the hills???

Drop Kick, I can tell you as a sponsor of several clubs in the Hills that Becis, Brooks, O'Gorman, Burch are not getting paid. You will find all in the B grade this week apart from Burch who is a Stapleton and Im proud to say a fine young man. Dont get me wrong I actually believe the players mentioned at Uraidla are well worthy of some cash. I guess thats what makes the comp so strong. Im all for the competition becoming stronger than the Sothern, SAAFL and Barrosa leagues.

I forgot to agree that Paul Richards is a great player and it was well noted that he was the only player watching the presentation at Uraidla on saturday until Sutherland called him over. Can play in multiple positions and would be one of the first picked each week by the coach.

Shanty Lad - when was there 'Bridgey bashing'?
I reckon each club's copped a bit of a ribbing, but not a bashing. Give us some positives about your club then.
Spot on, Rapper. No-one can believe that Burch isn't getting payed. Poor b#stard! He went through some rank timesand still remains one of the best there, but can't get coin. The blokes got a big heart. I'd say every club has a Burch, bloody handy to have around.

Paul Pucker Richards is the best defender in hills footy by a mile. I wish he played for the Dev's, because not only is he a gun player, he's a top bloke.

Dropkick, the Devils don't take any team lightly, ever, full stop. We wouldn't have come this far if we did. Every week is a challenge and we have a RHG regardless of who we're playing.

Shanty Lad, nobody was bagging the Shantys. I believe the only time any bagging was handed out this year was when we rocked up at Bridgey oval to find graffiti all over your oval sledging the Devils. Trust me, all us Devils want Bridgey back up the top because nothing is better than a Devils v Raiders game, and it would be sweet to play you guys in a final.

Shanty ... didn't think anyone has given the Raiders a real bagging, but if it fits ... you reckon the club won't be done for long ... do you realise they have been in the bottom 3 sides since 1998! How long do you reckon is long? Even our great men 'Red' and Wally Walters couldn't get them up the ladder, but if the cattle isn't there, you drop off the herd. Fair credit is due to Mt Lofty for doing something about being the worst club in league at one stage - performance wise. Now challenge is for Bridgey to do the same. Still may be Country Division is the go to rebuild, but that's up to them. I have even heard thoughts of club hanging up the boots so to speak, there's a lot of Shanty blokes playing bowls for Uraidla, why not footy .. Council would then have no wurries in setting up a wetlands area or even kayaking course on the Pit loosely passed as an oval.

So your saying they wont be taking Hahndorf lightly? Hahndorf i believe are just making up the numbers, its a 3 horse race by my books! Becis playing Bs??? I was told he is a gun recruit who had all the tools, an is the rumour true that he played a bitta NBL for Sydney Kings?

Becis did play for Sydney Kings but he is coming back from a serious ankle injury.

I would also like to say the Richards is on equal par with Matthew Stapleton as the best defender and Medta who proved last week he can play anywhere.

If I was the Grainge, there'd be a coupla guys I'd rest, and get back the injured to get some game time.
Becis was with the Kings, and I've seen him have some good games. Was a bit lost at sea in B's last weekend though.

hey guys, good to see matt stapleton get some dues. very often overlooked as a great player. ive seen him destroy opposition teams from the backline. hits the ball hard with pure courage, and although a completly different player to pucker i also would put him in that callibre.

about bridgy i heard a couple of weeks ago that they have actually applied to go down to the country division. any truth in this??? maybe then meadows could come up aswell as birdwood.

while on the rumour track, ive come across some interesting info suggesting former devil shane 'capper' mohor maybe pulling on the jumper this week for hahndorf. could be an interesting clash..

Yeah Matty Stapes is second only to Pucker in my opinion.

All those blokes who've bagged Mt Lofty for its recruiting should remember the Stapleton brothers, Baldock, DK, Fleet, Temme, Huff, Cutting, Artis, Broadbridge, Chapman, Pahl and the Dawes boys are all home grown, and would easily get an A Grade game at any other club. Of the 21 players who defeated Uri on Sat, 13 were unpaid, local players, which speaks volumes for the quality of hills talent.

I hope Capper plays on Sat. He'll probably try and smash a few of our blokes to make himself look tough......could get a 'Whatever 2pac' in the next edition of the Devils Advocate on the Mt Lofty website - http://www.mtloftyfootballclub.com/devils_advocate.html (Couldn't wait to get that plug in there!)

Capper's a good bloke, WTF would he be at Hahndorf? Mates? What a game to pick.
I wasn't aware that he left Lofty on acrimonious terms...

doc back in the 80,s players were getting paid e.g mt.barker, onkas, echunga. would name just a few :D
most clubs had players coming from the city were getting petrol money to cover costs. which means they were getting paid. earliest i remember goes back to 1977 but talk to the old guys who played in the 60,s 70,s it was happening then :D . nothing new. the clubs then were doing what lofty and uraidla are doing now and all other clubs in both divisions :D

guys this forum is turning to shit. stop talking crap about paid players its boring and everyone does it, some clubs are just better at it. get over it and find something interesting to talk about. are there any new ideas on blackwood changing leagues to ametuers, their numbers are ridiculous. what would happen if bridgy decide to drop to country would birdwood still come up to central? would seem stupid for them to come up yet still have an uneven number of teams. any thoughts? robby i know you have connections with the league what can u find out? just anything to stop the crap about paying recruits and constant bullshit about lofty vs uraidla. wait til they play next time to start talking crap again.

Capper spat the chewy at Lofty for not being awarded the B Grade coaching position 2 years ago.

I hind sight, it was a good decision, as the foundation was laid for the success currently being experienced under Gerald 'Messiah' Petersen.

I'd like to see Meadows come up as they have great facilities, and their oval is pristine. Birdwood's velodrome could be interesting and I rekon they should be forced to come up with an alternative jumper if they are promoted - The Devils are red and white!

yeah............what footballer said.

With regards to Blackwood, I understand (could be wrong) that the club itself is not in a position financially to go to ametuers, got the numbers on the track but need a few more biccies in the barrel before it is a viable option. Does anyone care to correct me on that? :?

Birdwood are coming up no matter what. If Bridgy drop to Country then we will just have a nine team comp again.

Does anyone know how Callington are travelling as a club off the field? Will they be able to pull it together to front up again in 2007?

devilsadvocate - Mt lofty have only been red and white since Heathfield Aldgate United and Stirling. I am pretty sure Birdwood has been the roosters since the town was called Blumberg?

How about Mt. Lofty spend some of their new found cash on an alternate / heritage jumper with some red and green or blue and yellow in it? Maybe you could make it a big club thing, you know, remembering the heritage of the club and the community? Just a thought.

In January this year I know that Lofty rang Birdwood for a trial game as one of the sides they spoke to pulled out. Would have been a good guage for them to see how they would fare in the Central Div. Birdwood declined.
