Bridgy B's got thumped. And with the loss of club legend and inspirational captain Steve Feijen for around 6 weeks with a severe ankle injury, the season may well turn into a long one unless there is a huge lift by the younger players in the team.
A grade was up by 10 goals at half time but failed to maintain their assertiveness on the game and were disappointingly outscored in the second half.
Excuses such as "they will play better on a big ground" (they do actually play 9 games at home on a small ground) and "the team will take time to gel" are not acceptable.

Disappointing to hear Steve has serious injury he sure has copped his fair share the last few years, hope he gets back into it sooner rather than later, he deserves some success for sure he's a good bloke.

Also disappointing to read your comments cbtf re: excuses, surely Bridgy would be just happy to win, the whole club should be basking in some glory, but to hear you, (an obvious raiders man), talking like that (negatively) - makes me think you'd rather see them fail than succeed??

I'm sure someone once said "United we stand - divided we fall" any chance you can get on board?

I didn't get to see Bridgewater yesterday but they tell me Ironbank played a few young fellas from last years senioe colts. I see Pope got a goal and in the best, did the young Shearwood lad play or is he still out at Sturt. Some one said he had around 40 touches in the early colts game.

No doubt about it, Birdwood will hold their own this year.

birdwood are the real deal this year id say... next week against bridgewater will be a great test for both sides as to where they're really at. greg hanton and longman looking dangerous up forward, a midfield consisting of Krieg, McGahey, Dempsey and Friend... my tip, roosters by 8 goals.

Howard, yes, I was at the game, I do support the raiders, and my comments are in no way negative. I was ecstatic that they won, the first time they have won at Ironbank in many years. The "excuses" that I mentioned were reasons which I have either read on this forum, or heard at the game and at the club afterwards as to why they may have been outscored in the second half. I hope that those reasons are justified, as they have tough games ahead on big grounds against clubs who have destroyed bridgy in recent years( eg Blackwood, Mt Lofty, Uraidla).

Fair enough cbtf - Bridgy supporters, players and officials have put up with a lot over the last few years, and have had their fair share of negative criticism as a consequence of poor performances. Having said that, I don't think the club can afford any 'perception' of negativity this year, and I accept what you're saying that your comments weren't intended to be negative.

Somebody may have just lost their house !

Was at the Blackwood Barker game and thought it was a very scrappy game.
Blackwood got out to a 4 or 5 goal lead early and it seemed to stay at that margin until three quarter time. Then a few boys in the last quarter got their goals up in the race for Hills leading goal scorer during JUNK TIME in the last.
Blackwood have room for improvement , but Barker looked a young side and i think they would be favs for that 5th finals spot , but wouldn't be surprised if Onkas or Birdwood snuck past them.

It would be good for the competition to see the Roosters there !

Have heard Birdwood were down by around 7 goals at one stage during the last quarter. If true, that shows some good signs for the Roosters to never give in and kick the last few of the game. Probably would have turned into a blow out in years gone by, so shows some real improvement.

could mean one of two things. Either hahndorf eased up and allowed some cheap goals in junk time, or birdwood showed some spirit and fight.

as said above, lets see a few more rounds before proclaiming birdwood as the big mover - right now they're 0 from 2.

Was told Hahndorf kicked the first 3 of the last putting them over 6 goals up, like 39 points or something. Is that wrong?

Yeah, I think it was 14g to 11g at 3 qtr time and Hahndorf came out and kicked 3 quick ones. I would imagine the Birdwood supporters thought "hear we go again" but birdwood actually dominated the rest of the qtr and kicked the next four.
It actually finished pretty close and quite a few of the Birdwood players thought if they had another 5 minutes, they could've snatched the win.
You could see some of the hahndorf supporters getting quite anxious in the last few minutes.

yeah seems like a decent center line that could probably be competitive against the best of them. Was surprised to see Longman kicked 4 or even still be in their A grade side after some of the stuff Ive heard about him from around the club last year.
I also remember seeing them play Blackwood last year and watch him trying start fights with his own team mates.

saw the i/b v b/w game on the weekend
both sides were full of young players which was good to see
b/w fell away in the 2nd half and were lucky ironbank werent closer at half time, if there going to beat quality sides they must run out a full game and keep there mouths shut, which i cant see happening

not sure about some of the umpiring decisions either

lofty came away happy with a bit of a fight for a win with wood, bawden, both temme bros, artis, and ben gordon to be back into side for next game. also matt baldock played b's so would expect him back in the a's with in a week or 2.

fleet too good for chris shee on the weekend too, wouldve looked worse if lockie had kicked straight..
