Creeks have suffered a massive blow with the mercurial Shane Rothe likely to miss the rest of the season. Having survived unscathed for a week in the Victorian alps practicing his extreme downhill skiing manouveres, he made it back just in time for the clash with the Mudlarks. Has suffered a smashed up collarbone/shoulder from sketchy reports received in a crunching tackle.
Fortunately for the Creeks, the almost as mercurial 'LIMB' returns shortly from his Jinx imparting visit to Lords and has assured me and Simmo that he is chanting at the bit to relinqish his leadership role in the magoos' and fill the giant shoes of Shano after being inspired by the POMS amazing form transformation from the 1st Test to the 2nd.

i have just had look at the gsfl website and the last round has not been updated but through sort of working it out, who do we all think will get the last double chance, i see it coming down too strath v compass

victor will probably end up 12 wins 6 losses (play langhorne creek away)
but strath and compass well theirs is a bit unknown, both should end up with at least 12 wins, strath to play willunga and compass, and, compass to play langhorne and strath, if both lose to willunga and langhorne respectively the round 17 clash will tell who gets the final double chance and a genuine crack at the flag as it is a big ask for a team finishing 4th or 5th to win it. dont think im discarding the fact that compass are a bit of bogey side for langhorne its just their percentage is poor and would still need to beat strath if they beat langhorne anyway, the closest top 5 we have had for few years i would say!!

hope i haven't confused you all
who ever thought of the saying winning isn't everything, probably lost!!

Last round updated now and the spots in the 5 are well and truly up for grabs.

Teams last 5 rounds are as follows
Willunga: Yank (A), Goolwa (H), Strath (A), Myponga (A), Langhorne Creek (H)
Langhorne Creek: Compass (A), Victor (H), Goolwa (A), Mclaren (H), Willunga (A)
Strathalbyn: E Bay (H), Yank (A), Willunga (H), Compass (A), Myponga (H)
Compass: Langhornes (H), Mclarens (A), E Bay (H), Strath (H), Yank (A)
Victor: Goolwa (H), Langhornes (A), Mclarens (H), Yank (H), E Bay (A)
Goolwa: Victor (A), Willunga (A), Langhornes (H), E Bay (H), Mclarens (A)

You would think that Victor are safe in the 5 being 2 games clear of Goolwa but if Goolwa win this week it certainly livens their season up but you would expect Victor to win at least 3 of their last 5 games. Goolwa will need to beat one of Willunga or Langhornes along with the defeat of Victor plus make up about 30% to take over Victors spot results going to plan. Tough ask but could be done.

The Rd 17 clash will certainly have a bearing on Top 5 positions depending if Strath or Compass can beat Willunga or Langhornes when they play them.

Willunga and Langhornes need to win their remaining matches which would then set up a great final round match between the 2. Top spot plus the Mccracken Cup would be on the line but plenty of footy to be played between now and then!

BJ
Just saw the results of Willunga V Victor
Were you that good or did they play badly. After the first round clash which was terrific, why the big gap this time?

We certainly didn't play the same brand of football as we did last time we played Willunga Yetti, but neither did Willunga. Willunga played a awesome 4 Qtrs of footy and never stopped working at 100%. They had 21 very good contributors that worked for each other all day. I am not sure what Mt Compass done to shut them down, all I can think of is that Willunga did not play as good as they did on sat against us. I have heard from a good Willunga man that the game Willunga played on the weekend was one of the better games he has seen from them this year and they are starting to really fire now.
We will look to bounce back this week against a good out fit in Goolwa and hopefully find the form we had early on in the year.

The dramas about where TW will play/wont play continue! The Human Headline!

Yetti we played a much better more accountable game this time around against Victor. Missing some key players also so that was an encouraging part of Saturdays game as much as the result.

Good to see ur back and fighting fit again Yetti!

Yes we did mate, well done to Compass on that win. Have you dropped off since that win or did you get Willunga on a very rare but off day?
Since that win you have beaten Victor by only 2 points (conditions made it very difficult but) then you only just got over Goolwa by 10 points on the best deck in the league and I hear that Goolwa had plenty of chances from your mistakes to put the game away but failed too.

It was always going to be difficult to come up against Goolwa for the second time. They had beaten us in the previous round and we were coming off two pretty tough wins. I felt our opening quarter was a marked improvement in comparison to other games in 2009 and to Goolwa’s credit fought back to reduce the deficient over the next couple of quarters. As in previous rounds the senior players seemed to lift in the final stages of the match coupled with some great individual efforts from some younger players. By all accounts it was a good game of country football to watch with Goolwa fighting to stay in the hunt for finals and Compass pushing for outright third position. Both sides had a lot to play for.

In answer to your question – Both Victor (killed us last time) and Goolwa (in a close one) had beaten Compass in the opening rounds so it was great to come away with the points the second time round. The win against Willunga was well deserved with both sides battling out all day to the final siren. Perhaps Willunga had a rare day off, perhaps Compass played above themselves that day but it is all relative to the mind set of the players on the day. I believe Compass are as good as any team in the comp given we put everything together on the day but also admit that we can be poor if we aren’t 100% focused on the job at hand. I don’t think we have dropped off because both sides were very competitive on the given Saturdays. Goolwa did have their chances in the final quarter but so did we all throughout the game. Sometimes it comes down to the side who makes better use of them during the game be it in the first or last quarter.

Consistency will be the key leading up to finals because we know we can match it with the best given we remain disciplined and stick to the plan. The final rounds will be very interesting.

*Note* Maxfield and Milburn might juggle a few votes this year which may leave the MM wide open for you BJ… 

Any one of the top 5 have the ability to take it out this year, as the results are showing. There have been some big wins in amongst the results but to be honest its as open as its been for quite some years!

Ive said this before Compass absolutely deserved the win against us. Their discipline and the way they attacked the footy was as good as ive seen for Compass. We didnt want it as much as they did and the result showed! We had our chances to put the game away and didnt, the dogs got their tails up and came home hard and won. Looking forward to a rematch if it eventuates come September.

*note* Cheers for that DS. Brad Hasketts the man who will win it if anyone from Willunga does.

I see someone (ok, more than one person) had a crack at the poor, (really poor, unacceptably poor) showers at Compass two weeks back when we all played in the mud. And, before you have a go, I played that day and could hardly get the mud off with the pathetic pressure and lack of hot water BUT to my surprise, when I walked into the visitor's change rooms at Goolwa (for the first time in my career) and saw that the showers / toilet area was clearly recently renovated, the first thing I thought was, great a good shower after the game. Man, was I disappointed, the shower pressure was as bad a compass the week earlier and the temp fluctuated between hot and cold. I was not impressed. I hope this isn't the norm for this comp. Someone tell me there are good showers out there, cause the way I am playing that is all I have to look forward to on a Saturday afternoon.........
