wasn't much mention of any ins for Onkas. can someone please advise of their new players ?

also, same article said that Bridgewater were looking at Brad Devries. has he signed with Bridgy or is he likely to go back to Onkas ?

He has signed with Bridgey. I believe Onkas have knocked back the clearence, however I thinkdue to signing with Bridgewater he cannot play for Onkas. So if they don't clear him he cannot play anywhere. I think thats how it works. He would win the clearence on appeal i would have thought

Big article on Bridgy in todays Courier with a photo of the new recruits. It would appear that Brad DeVries will not be returning to Onkas. I wasn't aware that his dad played for Bridgy. I wonder whether this was part of his decision to not return to Onkas. Round 1 (Onka v Bridgy) should be interesting
I'm worried about Onkas in 2009. Not getting a lot of positive vibes from the joint.

Pardon my ignorance but in what way do you mean it will be interesting?

nothing sinister, just the same old dramas when any player fronts up against old club. Im not aware of any bad feelings towards Brad, although most at Onkas just expected that he would return to balhannah once his SANFL days were over.

Looking at clearences on the HFL website looks like Ironbank may struggle this year. Lost 7 or 8 players and only gained a couple. Anyone know what the new players are like? As i don't think they have come from very strong clubs (which isn't to say they wont be decent players, just makes it hard to assume they are)

Yeah i thought thats what you meant. I guess it's a little different then most situations given his fathers career. I would be surprised if someone had a crack at him as he is a fair lump of a lad. It does add some spice though and we all know we love that part of footy!

Im sure when onkas looked at the draw they were happy about getting Bridgy in round 1 (based on last year's form). with the respective in/outs for each club over the off season, this match will give a good indication of how the powerbase in the hfl may alter in 2009.

Does anyone know the last time Devries played for Onkas? Think it has been 7 or 8 years

I know of Craig Ottoway from jamestown hes is a tall lanky type ruckman/key position, will do ok but wont be dominating as such. From porties before that though

Played juniors at Onkas before venturing to Norwood and going through the ranks. Reckon he played a couple of senior games at Onkas when Norwood Juniors had the byes, but wouldn't have played there since. 7 or 8 would be around the mark.

Sudjai Cook did the same with Kersbrook having played all his juniors there, before joining Lobethal in the senior ranks.

Will it simply be a formality or can Barker make it difficult for him?

How are Barker looking anyway. Sounds as though they've lost a couple, have they signed any?

i think mt barker can try make it difficult (i think they would try to use the required player card).. but dont think they have any argument to hold him over that... and from what i have heard lofty have came up with a pretty water tight case to get him over the line.....

Ahhh, nice to see someone else who actually realises what our footy is meant to be.

What a waste of time for everyone involved having to attend a clearance meeting. If a bloke wants to leave, let him. The only thing that should hold a bloke is unpaid subs.

GH made life very difficult for one Brad Lees to leave TV last season. And he didn't even live near Mt.Torrens or Mt.Pleasant.

You use the word 'amateur' a bit loosely there Danger, with what you pay to players, you might want to re-word that.
