Can any Berri Supporter out here tell me how that BFC can have their centenary B4 the town. I vaguely recall something being mentioned earlier and the query was not answered possibly due to a lack of history buffs on this forum. Just curious.
Not sure what you guys have planned for the weekend but I hope it goes well and you have a ball.

I think the club was formed prior to the town being officially gazetted.

Someone else could confirm that.

Lots of football action this weekend in the Riverland and Mallee
and here is how the Armchair Experts see things.

Will Berri win its centenary clash with Loxton?
Who will win the top of the table match up in the Independents?
Can last year's premiers climb off bottom spot in the Mallee?

i do DW
Archibald Peake, being the pisshead premier of s.a in 1909 wanted a nightclub called the vines. he decided it should be located in an area that would be associated with the growing of grapes, and what was to be the township of Berri is a central location and good spot for that night club. the next problem he encountered was how to get that dancefloor filled, Berri of course not being a town yet. he thought about it and decided a great way to get some pissheads through the doors was to start a footy club. hence Berri Footy club was formed. word spread about the propsed night club and how much fun the BFC were having and everyone wanted to be part of it so the people flooded into the area and the town of Berri was formed.
thats where they got the line in that movie....if you build it they will come
thanks to Premier Peake and his drunken antics the Berri footy club is 1 year older than the town.

Yeah, sounds ridiculous yet take out the word "nightclub" and insert hotel, and it could almost be believable ;)

Not Scared wrote:Look boys, so far the Berri FC and CDFC currently have a very good working relationship. So far all that has happened is that Centrals have asked permission to play Sutherland for two games (last week's and this week's) and Berri have granted that permission. No more has come of it.

I think everyone needs to get over this for the moment, let him play footy and let the two clubs work out where he will play for the rest of the season. If he ends up playing at Centrals all year and not being involved in Berri's finals campaign with no compensation then there would be every right for uproar, but at the moment he has missed a couple of games.

whufc, some of your scenarios are insulting to country footy (do you really think Berri FC would hang their hat on a cameo from the Gowans boys? You do realise we have our own players that people like to come and watch, and that some of them are quite good footballers who would be a lot better than your scraps who miss out on the reserves that you want to chuck our way) so maybe you should just stick to talking about something you know about and realise that your club is not the only footy club in the world that is important to people.

Everyone remember the late clearance coming through for Sutherland. This was because he was contracted to KANIVA. Round 2 hopefully he leaves Berri and goes to pursue a SANFL Flag, Berri cant cry foul they did the same thing to Kaniva as what CDFC are doing to them. Paying one bloke $1200/game plus is ridiculous!!!! Just to try to buy a flag in the centenary year!!! BANG!!
