This year. Been there before. I thought he did OK with what he had. Wish him well, he's a good bloke, different, but a good bloke. You need your B's to play finals to have a strong A's. That let them down a bit. :)

Second time round retired from the same club. Too many egos and just a little disharmony. He had a lot of good players to work with Yank Man

Me either Yank man.

Excuses? what excuses?

We still had a big emphasis on developing juniors this year. 7 colts played a total of 17 A grade games this year, and not for points reasons. I think that would stack up pretty well against the other sides in the GSFL.

I, like many others thought we would do better than 5th with the way the list looked on paper. Sure Sauce has to take some of the responsibility for that as the buck stops with the coach, but as someone that heard plenty of his addresses and saw many games, I certainly don't think he deserves to wear it all.

The first half of the minor round was very poor and things really didn't gel but the second half was pretty good with 6 wins - only Bays and Creek had more with 7.

I don't know if others thought differently, but I always saw Sauce as an impact appointment. Certainly not surprised that he pulled the pin.

I think a consistent environment is ultra important to success of a team. Steve hill the year before didn't have all the overpaid recruits they had this year and really basically did the exact same job with probably $50k more left in the bank. And the recruits go where the money is so doubt they will all be there next year so back to square one. They seemed like a better 'team' last year than just gone.

Umm... We had 3 new recruits this year. (well 4 if you count the one that couldn't cut it). 50k. - get real.
Yes we could have stuck with Hilly, but I can tell you for a fact we would have gone down the ladder not up.

Don't really know how you can refer to that as 'a fact', and surely those overrated recruits weren't playing for a lot less than about 600 each per week and that is about 40k a year, still astronomical wouldn't you say?

Don't get me wrong 50m -I actually agree with you on most of your points.
Yes fact is the wrong word...but believe me action had to be taken if we wanted to stay in the hunt. In such a tight comp it doesn't take much to go from being around the mark to struggling to win games - Yank is a perfect example.

Your numbers would make $32K - I reckon $15K would be astronomical personally. I make a point of not knowing what individual players get paid, but I have a fair idea of what some clubs budgets have been in recent years. I think every recruit is overpaid - the $ paid to good-average footballers is ridiculous IMO. But what is the alternative? languish at the bottom getting thumped every week? That ain't much fun!

Your point about a consistent environment is a good one - as long as it is a good environment. Pilmore's dont grow on trees though so the hunt begins.

Great effort by willunga to beat the bays at encounter bay. The September kings have fired at the right time as usual. Not many tipsters would have picked this upset especially with welsh back from injury. Can there be another upset tomorrow with strath to beat the creek$? Let's hope. Have heard rumors that the creek have a few talls out injured & they have picked there oldest veteran Tim follett for his first a grade game this year. These tales happen quiet often down the road will wait & see, Should be a close game in the local derby again. The winner to play the bays at compass.

Out in straight sets last year after finishing top losing 1 game. Im pretty sure the Finals were in September last year. ;)
Minor premiers dont have a great record in recent years.
Willunga obviously the team to beat now.
Tipping Strath to reverse their 93 point hammering at the hands of the Creeks last time they met tomorrow. Creeks have too many under injury clouds.

Fair enough FOD I'm with you there. Too much money in it now unfortunately its got to an irreversible point.

On another note the Willunga comeback even shocked me, bays were looking very likely at quarter time

DEMONS
if the Willunga demons win this years premiership at home they will surely be unofficially the greatest team over the last 10 years outside of the AFL. I mean think of the success for such a period and think of the players
Haskett, Cox, Portlock, Burdett, Hams, Steele, Bomber, Miegel, Paterson, Wadewitz, Roberts, Alexopolous, Baxter..the list goes on. all of these players are superstars and Id reckon south Adelaide would be a far better side of such players wanted to play for them
