If thats right, then who will want to play A grade this week for Lions? Will have to use kids but you wouldnt be keen for that with finals on the way! Tough spot for them to be in.....

Plenty said about Lions current plight and clearly will create plenty of discussion but they have two sides in finals and you cant overlook the two other Pirie sides.

Port were poor last year but recovered somewhat this year and will be interesting to see where their A&B finish. After many GF appearances in the Colts they have been hit hard with a shortage of older age kids but have improved as the season went on. I think their 15s and 13s are ok so should recover over time.

Sollies kids have been fantastic this year and their first chance for a flag in yonks and all power to them, I think they will win it! Their b's finished in the 4 last year but have fallen away badly and been belted week in week out this year. Couldnt believe that they ran out with 16 on the weekend including trainers, assistant coaches and 'mature' fill ins! And thats with 7 u18s in the A grade!!! Looks like they only had about 25 senior players to pick from. And with the amount of imports in that lot it must be a worry!! Hopefully their current group of kids will hang around.
Has a side ever spent that much to finish 5th?

Should be an interesting finals series in all grades!

Will be interesting to see what Sollies do with their Agrade, surely they would want all the kids playing Under18s this week so they can qualify for finals....and probably win the thing... With only 16 in the Bgrade last week, this week they could be looking at a forfeit just to get a team in the A's........ Have seen on facebook a few people asking people to play.

Sollies are about where Lions were 2/3 years ago, weak Agrades but plenty of youth coming through, hopefully Sollies will learn from Lions mistakes and win some senior silverware.

Pretty sure u/18s can play A-grade in the last round and still play u/18s in the finals. Could be wrong though.

and how many games in a season? I bet they wish they had him all year then they may have won a couple of the close ones they lost and probably should have won.

Yep, can play a's if you are under 18s then come back for the finals; souths had about 6 or 7 come back when they won in 08.
As for qualifying for b grade, a mate who plays in the Barossa league says that you have to play the last 5 games of the season for b grade to qualify for their b grade finals; I guess to stop teams realising they can't win A grade and stacking their B's. That practice has cost a lot of teams a lot of pissed off players in the past, who have played all season then been turfed at finals time. I don't think it is much of a huge issue if u18 A graders drop back for finals but to do it for B grade is pretty stiff

You'd have to be pretty shattered if you had played all season in the 2's and got ousted for finals if the club makes the decision to sacrifice their A grade side to benefit the B grade. It might sound a bit old school but I always thought the A grade is picked first preference as the flagship of the club, followed by B grade and then senior colts. Common sense would say the rule should simply be you must play the majority of the year in that grade to be eligible for finals, unless of course the higher grade was playing on the same day and you'd been legitimately squeezed out of the side.

i like the idea but dont know about paying top dollar for a beer over the bar at the port clubhouse.

Is that right ST? So what do Sollies/Lions/Squids charge for a schooner or glass of chateau cardboard say, in respect of the Sporties and other Pirie pubs?

Apparently Sollies are also struggling to fill their league side for tomorrow with all the kids being dropped back to u/18s so they can all have some game time together before finals.

I hear Nigel Anderson & Laz Kovacevic have been asked to pull on the boots.

Surely in that case Boston to select himself in the B's? Would scare the crap out of a few!

Plenty on at the cattery if all is to be believed.
After the goings on in Augusta a few weeks back you might have thought it may quieten down but 50’s still being given away by the bench last week and this week heard on the radio Bob has been told Wednesday he is no longer required as a junior umpire after having words with some of the Lions kids about their club being a basket case while umpiring! Feltus must be playing in the Lions 15’s...............
Then Thursday nearly cames to blows with the colts coach about selection this week.
Wasn’t there for any of it but if true, sad to see.
Might be worth travelling down the cats tonight and getting on those $3.80 stubbies just to hear the post match wraps!!

Boston is the A grade coach and rule of thumb is you select your A grade first then the colts that dont get selected go back to the colts and the players that dont get picked for the A grade play B grade. I think the colts coach is exactly that a COLTS coach and should do as he is told that is why solomontown cant take the next step as there are to many chiefs down there well thats the whispers around anyway. There is some talk the whole board needs a good clean out.

I think a lack of avenues to goal is more likely to be the problem. A grade side looked about right while Squids would get a game in the Bs with that team they put on the park.

Finals:

PORT PIRIE

Saturday 10/9/11

10.30am Sollies v South (QF)

12.20pm Port v Central (EF)

2.10pm Port v Central (QF)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

PORT AUGUSTA

Sunday 11/9/11

10.30am Lions v West (EF)

12.20pm Lions v West (QF)

2.10pm South v West (EF)

My selections in bold.
