Barossa should sell up all their vacant land to keep him, because Nelson won't be able to coach on his own.

Gee wiz you don't know if your coming or going with him... First he applies for a coaching job than decides he will stay at Barossa and now he is thinking about going to hummocks!!! Not a good sign!!! Plus Barossa wouldn't want to lose any other player seeing as there is alot of talent going already!!!

Don't be too hasty with Nelson just yet Pinch Hitter. I can understand the knocks on him at the mo', (taking on an already successful side) but he will have learnt heaps in that first season and he spent two years under the experienced O'Connor.
There should be some upside to his coaching skills yet.
The only query I have is why all these have blokes left. In that regard, it may be indicative of the fact that (for any club) money may buy good players, but may not buy cohesion.

With all of the controversy surrounding the clash of Round 1 and Vinatge Festival, how will the affected clashes between
GCFC vs NRFC, and
AFC vs TFC
pan out? will GC dominate and will the fact that both teams may be affected even out the clash between the panthers and the magpies?

Blokes will be busy organising the day off so they can play. I don't think it will actually have that much effect on the matches.
The bigger problem I see, is moreso in arranging volunteers (gate, canteen, bar, etc.) for the Ang v Tan game, and the availability of players in the colts' grades.
All in all though, I think it will work out without the world crashing down.

From all reports Nelson uses the same material and last year only had to say the same things as occonnor and the team carried them out, i am not sure he has the knowledge or persona to be able to coach players into believing it like occonnor can.

Anyway, we'll know more after the 16th round.

Find it very funny that players are just leaving and good players at that!!! To me that looks like the blokes are not enjoying it there if they where they wouldn't be leaving... Unless the money has dried up all of a sudden!!!

All very good points masterplan... if the money has dried up then nelson might just be coaching for a meal and a drink after the game.

Heard it is definately true. D.THOMAS signed at Hummocks in the A.P.F.L last nite. Apparently sick of everything down at Barossa. Will be a HUGE loss.

does the lyndoch oval get utlised or not??? for football that would go close to the best surface, plenty of shade, and relativily central for all clubs?? fair guess???

My opinions on the BL&G venues:
Nuriootpa; When you consider the whole package, Nuri is the best. Layout, playing surface, parking, changerooms, etc.
Willaston; Easily the best surface in the league. Clubrooms a bit far away, but they have the bar close by! Changerooms a bit small. Viewing and parking is good.
Tanunda; Good surface, parking a little tight, changerooms and clubrooms good.
Kapunda/Freeling/Angaston; Hard to split these three. All have good parking and good clubrooms. Kap and Ang have good changerooms, Freeling's a little pokey. Downsides are very little shelter at Kap and Freeling, Ang oval gets very muddy.
Gawler Central; Good playing surface and parking. Clubrooms not big, changerooms ok, but the atmosphere at the ground is average
Barossa District; Can't do a whole lot about the surface, but when it's dry, it's as good as most. Clubrooms are good, changerooms ok, but parking is a bugger. Layout is good.
South Gawler; Surface is one of the better ones, parking is mostly fine (when it's dry) and clubrooms are close by. Changerooms are a shocker though and viewing isn't as good when everything is at one end of the ground.
Lyndoch; Surface is sufficient, clubrooms average, changerooms poor. Parking around the oval is limited. It is central though![/quote]

fair enough.. i only asked as i have never played there really sine junior football. didnt know..

A number of posters to this site have alerted me to some slanderous rubbish posted on the forum about myself and hence I have located and registered for it.
Upon reading this thread I was astonished to read a couple of posts claiming I "concoct" and have been "caught out" writing lies. I had those posts removed before the brewing legal hoo haa went above my head. BUT, let me make one thing very, very clear. At NO stage in the two and a half years I have been writing "A Sporting Chance" have I EVER written a lie. NEVER.
Nor has anyone ever called, emailed or spoken to me in that time, to say I have lied. There have been (very rare) errors of fact. Not one lie.
Information for my column comes from my many contacts in the football world - people like you, the posters to this forum. It was not made up and it did not come from this site.
There is not one club in this league which will not talk to me, and many contacts OFFER news and information.
I would be easy to ask Don Brook and 151 to put up or shut up, but I don't want to hijack this thread with BS which is way off topic.
Suffice to say, if either want to email me, or even come into Northern News and see me, they can have a crack at me in person. We can go over to the Old Bushman Hotel and have a beer and a yak, and I'm sure we'd end up shaking hands and that would be the end of it!
I am loathe to fill up what is a very good forum with tit for tat chat, so I anticipate this will be the last I will post on the matter.
All the best to you and your clubs in 2009!

Steve from what i have read, your column consists of lack of depth, you never seem to have any breaking news, Kapunda get a huge plug during football season.
I stopped reading it, but thought i would give it another chance last week and yet again another big headline story that was nothing new, everyone was aware of the person coming back to play footy for the club and he hasnt always played cricket for that club.
Go find some interesting gossip, that people will read and find interesting and gossip that you get, not gossip that Laidlow finds.

Not a popular column at all...

The best column was Bag & Sledge back in the days, that was a very popular column along with The Good Oil from Honest John. Peter Argents column is great also in The Herald, he is up to date on every topic.

The fifth quarter struggled with theirs. And Sunbowler was average.

At least Argent speaks to people before going ahead and writing things ie Baker story last season!!!
I did suggest for Sven Lindner or Paul Ryan to take over the Triple B FM radio show they would be great, as they are up to date on everything around the BLG and are also great speakers.
A Sporting Chance has had enough Chance. Time for something new. Maybe Laidlaw has something up his sleeve because he is very well respected as a person and journo...

Thats a bit wrong, a sporting chance is completely different to the other things that have featured in the past and is never used to make jokes as the B&S article was.... its more 'main stream'....
