damian wrote:As the GSFL site i yet to be updated, of the top of my head the current premierhsip table should look something like this:

Willunga 3-0
Victor 3-0
GPE 3-0
Creeks 2-1
McLaren 2-1

Strath 1-2
Compass 1-2
Yank 0-3
Pongy 0-3
Bays 0-3

Willunga - Without doubt will finish minor premiers after Creeks little hiccup on the weekend. Finals is a different ball game but still unbackable favourites without putting a foot wrong thus far.
Victor - Have beaten 2 quality sides in Strath and Compass. Well positioned for a top 3 finish at this early stage. Facing both other undefeated sides in the next two weeks, Willunga at home then GPE at Goolwa which will tell us more about wherethey are at.
GPE - We knew they would improve with the quality recruiting of Ewer and White, but what is more impressive the local players that have stuck together in the past 3 years, the bodies have matured and are now playing with some real conifidence. A tough month coming up against Compass (Away), Victor, Willunga and Creeks (Away). With the belief around GPE they will be hoping to win atleast a couple of these. At worse should end 9-9 come the end of the minor rounds.
Creeks - Suffered their first loss against Strath on the weekend, should account for Myponga this week before facing Compass, Victor, GPE and Willunga which will be the month that shapes their season. Are the 'gun' recruits the right mix for the hawks? Time will tell. Should be a top 3 side.
McLaren - 2-1 with the only loss against Willunga. having said that there wins have been against Bays and Yank. This weekend will be the real test to see where they are at against Strath. The Roosters seem to be around the 5th place mark this season so the Eagles will need to win these games if they are a chance of playing finals footy. Will be a competitive side throuhout the year finishing in 7th.
Strath - A slow start to the year dropping the first2 against Victor and GPE but have shown they are still capable of making an impact come finals. The 0-2 start may hurt them later in the year, a win against McLaren this week and i think they will fight it out for 4 and 5th spot with Compass and GPE.
Compass - Sitting in a dangerous position at 1-2 and facing GPE then Creeks they could well find themselves 1-4 if they are not careful. Huge game this week for the dogs. Should account for the lower ranked sides come rounds 6-8 but don't seem to have improve from last year. Will battle it out for 4th, 5th and 6th with Starth and GPE.
Yank, Pongy, Bays - Finals are not out of the question, but we would need to see a rapid turn around in their performances. The wooden spoon will come from one of these sides, my tip, the bays to win the uncoveted trophy. Pongy and Yank still have plenty of heart, not so sure about the Eagles.

After three rounds i predict it to finish like this:

Willunga
Victor
Creeks
Strath
GPE

Compass
McLaren
Yank
Pongy
Bays

A good assessment Damian.
Strathalbyn losing to Goolwa and then beating Langhornes makes Goolwa's form look impressive. I would not have thought that the addition of Ewer, White and Denis would have made such an impact. Goolwa the big improvers in 2009.You are right about Compass who IMO should have improved but seem to be treading water.

Remembering Dennis has only played the Strath game thus far and White hasn't quite had the full impact the Maggies would've hoped for as yet. I would think Sam Jones and Dale Cuthbert would be leading the B&F down there at the moment.

Matches of the round this week:

Compass V GPE
Victor V Willunga

Couple of belters!!!

Great post Damian. Well covered and looks with these early wins Goolwa are a chance for the 5, shall we dare say it!
Strath did to the Creek what the Creek did to them last year. Strath will be OK and just because you have big names it means nothing unless it is Dale Ellis.

Knowing Dale and his ability im gonna say its a bit like any big key forward. Cut the supply level and the quality of that supply and that will go a long way to limiting Dales influence.

A very hard man to match up on.

Willunga will have the test this week.
Haskett will probably take him one on one and Steele and Thomas will drop back on him.

If Steele drops back on Dale Ellis who is going to feed the seagulls?
On a positive at the Bay the junior colts got up again over Willunga with young Greg Oxenham doing a fantastic job. That is McLaren and Willunga in successive weeks. It is not all doom at the Bay.

The As are really missing Jacob Baggs, but he alone will not turn around the club's fortunes. I know the club is working hard to pick up a key forward and the return of James Prest would be a big bonus. Noticed in the under 18 comp Bay players figured in the best for South. Pat Taggart, Elijah Horrocks and Tyson Davis-Neale. The club is not that badly off, especially for the future.

:? :? no one on here would be silly enough to do that, Willunga by 8 - 10 goals. Its going to be a nice dry weekend and Victors back line is no match for the Willunga forwards...

yeh fair enough, who's the lucky guy that gets the job on big bad dale ellis? 10 out of 15 goals is a fair effort although hams has been doing that for years at willunga!

hodgy may be good but how can one man take on the willunga onballers? no doubt haskett will have a crack on ellis, possible the best centre half back vs one of the best big forwards in league, my money is on haskett to shut him with the help of a lack of supplie compared to last week

mate i never sed hodgey would beat all of willungas on-ballers by himself.the only thing i stated was if u can shut down hodgey and d.ellis then any side in the gsfl will go along way to knockn of vh.i actually think willunga will win this week and i think they will win fairly comfortably,as sum1 stated before i think vh defence is a little vulnerable.

great night saturday night!!! except the results of senior colts, b's and A's!! Rain was great!! decent crowd, good standard game in the A's. well done to strath, definatly came with some purpose and a plan, bit of pay back for the ANZAC game at strath last year!!

Strath had some very good players playing in the B grade, Ben simmo, Burgess (who looks fit, lost some weight apparently), maxwell (called him snoop i think, unsure of his first name) so i think people writing them off after a 0-2 start might be made to eat words.
