My Tips:

Yankalilla - very close match, in the wet bodies too big for the young Eagles
Creeks - too much firepower, was intereted to read that Strath lost it last week rather than us beating them
Goolwa - close match, last years were decided by 7 points and 1 point. Pongy to appreciate a dead 4 track
VH - would tip Compass if they were home
Willunga - see creek comment

I know i picked the magpies as well LF but keen to have a beer on the match, could be an upset, pongy loves the wet! I'll be there to collect ;)

Yes, we will make it a Pint. Thw way the wind is blowing up and the rain is falling, Pongy may even start light favourites with the bookmakers!!!!!!!!

Are you still drinking those pints of light shandies

Isnt it good when someone makes a silly bet and then pays up immediately. Thanks WOW, that was the sweetest light shandy I have ever had!!!!!!!!

thats got to be g/pe biggest win for a few years, i thought they would win but not by 99 points, who would have thought they would be 3 and 0 but give credit where it is due they must be playing some good footy

Looking at their side, they do have some quality players - Yeomans, Ewer, White, Dennis etc etc.

If Willunga, Victor, Langhorne Creek, and Mount Compass are "definites" for the finals, Goolwa/PE may well be in contention for 5th spot, alongside Strath, and maybe McLaren if they continue their winning form.

YES
Creeks trailed by 25 points at 3/4 time and got to within 5 points then Strath kicked the last 2 goals.
was about 11 goals to 9. Strath were better suited by the slippery conditions with their pace causing the Creeks a few problems.

Huge result for Strath and a great kickstart to their year which they surprisingly dropped their 1st 2.

The weather wasnt as bad we all would've thought but it was very windy.

Good games again on the weekend from the younger guys, this week will test how far theyve come along.

Good game Sat night, my observations on why Strath got up:

a) Conditions significantly lessened the influence of Creeks big blokes and brought Strath's speedy little fellas right into the game.
b) Strath had a very well thought out game plan and were definitely better coached on the night. Duffield in a scragging role on Feast all night the master stroke.
c) Creek poorly prepared and poor performances from some of the 2nd tier 'regulars'.

After watching the Creek (& South for that matter) for a few years now, I feel when 'big' recruits come into a football side the regulars and perhaps even the coaches can get a bit lazy, assuming that the sum amount of talent in the side will get them over the line easily each week. No amount of talent is substitute for proper preparation and a well thought out game plan.

Champion sides like Willunga (and Centrals in SANFL) are the ones who have been able to gel recruits into the team and turn a team of champions into a champion team.

As a Creek supporter I just hope some lessons will be learnt from this game. In the end it's better to get wake up call like this early in the season rather than in the GF when it's too late a la 2007.

As the GSFL site i yet to be updated, of the top of my head the current premierhsip table should look something like this:

Willunga 3-0
Victor 3-0
GPE 3-0
Creeks 2-1
McLaren 2-1

Strath 1-2
Compass 1-2
Yank 0-3
Pongy 0-3
Bays 0-3

Willunga - Without doubt will finish minor premiers after Creeks little hiccup on the weekend. Finals is a different ball game but still unbackable favourites without putting a foot wrong thus far.
Victor - Have beaten 2 quality sides in Strath and Compass. Well positioned for a top 3 finish at this early stage. Facing both other undefeated sides in the next two weeks, Willunga at home then GPE at Goolwa which will tell us more about wherethey are at.
GPE - We knew they would improve with the quality recruiting of Ewer and White, but what is more impressive the local players that have stuck together in the past 3 years, the bodies have matured and are now playing with some real conifidence. A tough month coming up against Compass (Away), Victor, Willunga and Creeks (Away). With the belief around GPE they will be hoping to win atleast a couple of these. At worse should end 9-9 come the end of the minor rounds.
Creeks - Suffered their first loss against Strath on the weekend, should account for Myponga this week before facing Compass, Victor, GPE and Willunga which will be the month that shapes their season. Are the 'gun' recruits the right mix for the hawks? Time will tell. Should be a top 3 side.
McLaren - 2-1 with the only loss against Willunga. having said that there wins have been against Bays and Yank. This weekend will be the real test to see where they are at against Strath. The Roosters seem to be around the 5th place mark this season so the Eagles will need to win these games if they are a chance of playing finals footy. Will be a competitive side throuhout the year finishing in 7th.
Strath - A slow start to the year dropping the first2 against Victor and GPE but have shown they are still capable of making an impact come finals. The 0-2 start may hurt them later in the year, a win against McLaren this week and i think they will fight it out for 4 and 5th spot with Compass and GPE.
Compass - Sitting in a dangerous position at 1-2 and facing GPE then Creeks they could well find themselves 1-4 if they are not careful. Huge game this week for the dogs. Should account for the lower ranked sides come rounds 6-8 but don't seem to have improve from last year. Will battle it out for 4th, 5th and 6th with Starth and GPE.
Yank, Pongy, Bays - Finals are not out of the question, but we would need to see a rapid turn around in their performances. The wooden spoon will come from one of these sides, my tip, the bays to win the uncoveted trophy. Pongy and Yank still have plenty of heart, not so sure about the Eagles.

After three rounds i predict it to finish like this:

Willunga
Victor
Creeks
Strath
GPE

Compass
McLaren
Yank
Pongy
Bays

A good assessment Damian.
Strathalbyn losing to Goolwa and then beating Langhornes makes Goolwa's form look impressive. I would not have thought that the addition of Ewer, White and Denis would have made such an impact. Goolwa the big improvers in 2009.You are right about Compass who IMO should have improved but seem to be treading water.
