one thing i did notice about mclaren vales coaching staff was that there was a hell of a lot of them, it seemed like there was four or five older guys taking notes and giving some advice, this was great to see and looked very profesional. Have these guys always been around the club or are they new comers with the coach?

1. 2006 - the bays lost more quality players than they did at the end of 2008
2. 2007 & 2008 Bays developed a number of mid range players and a number of colts - where are they now - cant keep saying they're coming, they're coming.
3. The bays have gone from a competitive unit to making up the numbers
4. why do ppl get on signmans back about not helping out then when he says he's about to you bag crap out of him? he hasnt bagged the club, he's simply said things others dont like to admit.

CLub prides one thing but being the fool is another - footy is a funny ol thing - fast forward a few years and Im sure the cycle will change and new clubs will be at the top. The only thing is - it will be the clubs that plan for it and work on that plan.

BB sit on your hands - you'd be tip tapping away if this were your club ppl were talking about so until you can add constructive unput neck up! Although you did make one vaguely good point.

EBFC from the outside looking in are in trouble.

Simple - keep your juniors and their families happy - get the reserves to realise that you will never improve until you do it together OR get a bloody big loan and offer blokes more than they can poke a stick at to play in 2010 and buy a finals appearance because as a lot of clubs will notice is that as money continues to tighten up in the economy ppl will want more to travel and they wont be wanting to travel to get flogged every week.

Hmmmm maybe the last bloke wasn't as bad as I've read on here and seen from the old sites results.

Anyway - just my thoughts - if you dont like em scroll down - pretty simple.

Good summary Vision, as the past coach you really know whats going on behind closed doors!! You prob didnt need to add the bit about the last bloke as we are aware you (vision) are the 'old bloke'.

as far as i know the people who would have been there would have been coach, assistant coach, team manager, statsman, and maybe a yetti for good luck, coaches obviously new but the rest are all locals who's sons play for the club and just wanna help out which is great, because without the volunteers where would all of our footy clubs be.
who ever thought of the saying winning isn't everything, probably lost!!

Postby Mr Magoo » Thu Apr 23, 2009 10:14 am

Magoo has just returned from taking a mob of tourists to Eyres Lake.
A fantastic sight with water still pouring in. A flight over the lake was terrific. The drive up and back in a coach full of S Korean tourists was tough. They didn't really dress for the outback and leather shoes on the salt pan don't go so well.

Some interesting results from last week.
Goolwa are looking good as are the mighty Willunga Demons. Langhornes continue to be the challenger.
Strath however is the real surprise. after this week they will be none from 3.
I thought Myponga might be on the move up after week 1 but starting to doubt that numbers are the answer and losing Laffin will hurt. Do they have any quality players at all? Encounter Bay look as they may struggle after losing to Mclaren, who looked second rate against Willunga. Yank have recruited well and will find out where they and McLaren are after this weekend. Victor with 2 good wins do look the real deal, but financially may be challeged by year end.

Winners this week
Goolwa Magpies to peck away at the Mudlarks and even in the wet will just get up. None in the Pongy team to match up on Ewer or White and Yeoy will run riot
Langhornes Creek will swamp the dissappointing Strath. The old red shoes will be a bit muddy
Willunga to hammer the Bays. Baxter will be in his element with a bit of sting out of the ground and will slow em down and he might just catch a couple. Be interested to see how many tackles Encounter Bays big Kiwi Will can make before he gets hammered.
Yank will be too physiaclly strong for the little baby Mclaren team who look as though they should all still be at school. Do any of them except Dodd Shave yet?
Match of the round
Victor and Compass. Should be a ball tearer. Both sides with good midfields but Victor to win with the Ellis boys dominating again

Langhornes Creek against a dissappointing Strathalbyn
Goolwa will be too strong for Princi's Mudlarks

Great post vision.
Running a football club is a tough job and not a job someone can do on their own. Many people need to be involved. If you want to be serious about turning a club around you need to find people who are willing to put a few other things in their life on hold for the short term at least. You need to be proactive - go out and find a coach, and target the best. Dont ever think someone is too good for the club. Once you have a good coach and staff in place then set about making the place enjoyable for families and friends. The club will then become more attractive to those on the outside looking in. Juniors must feel like the club is going in the right direction. It makes it almost impossible to leave. Remember, if 1 kid leaves, so does his mum, dad, and usually a couple of his mates.
I dont know much about Enc Bay so it is not my place to comment on what they do inside their walls but i agree it looks like they are struggling from the outside. It is only early in the season and i hope they can become competitive throughout the year and make progress by years end making for a better competition for everyone.

Mclarens to beat Yank, weather will play a big part as Mclarens will need to be strong over the ball so Heaney, Fenoughty, Hill, Williams and co will need to be strong and lead their young side.
Willunga to beat E Bay at home. Encounter have been a bit of a bogey side for us over the years so we will not be taking them lightly, need to continue the good form. Looking forward to good games again from Williamson, Horsfall, Toone, Alphabetolopolous and fearless Vice Captain Glass.
Victor to beat Compass. Victor very impressive so far, Compass however have addressed their height issues with the Creek boys and the difference will be the midfield depth of Victor Harbor.
Creeks to beat Strath. Strath have surprised many by dropping their first 2 but in the derby match and plenty at stake hope its a tight affair. Creeks a bit too polished for mine.
Goolwa to beat Pongy. Goolwa will surprise and if current results continue will make the 5. Their onball division of Jones, Ewer, Yeomans and Griffen is as good as any IMO and with White, Hirst, Dennis and co will be too big for Pongy.

YANK to beat McLaren in a tight one - Less than 3 goals. Yank harder at it and the older, bigger bodies might be handy in the slippery conditions.
WILLUNGA by as much as they want to win by - Only 15-20 goals in the wet.
VICTOR by 8-10 goals - Won't be as close as most expect.
LANGHORNES by 15-20 goals - Similar to Willunga, only saviour for Strath is the weather.
GOOLWA by 10 goals+ - Much too polished for the Muddies who are renowned for their spirited wet-weather performances.

Yank - Mclarens boys hate the rain, gets there white boots dirty
Willunga to win for the next 18 games
Victor - Top shelf midfield
Creek - but only just, tough game for these rival clubs
Saints - No Laffo is going to hurt. I'd imagine they would have to move A.Polst into the ruck, good tap ruckman but cant give what Laf gives around the ground.

I think he may struggle with being a good tap ruckman also this week against the Jones boys.

Bring on the rain, love the wet stuff!!!

Mclarens in a close one
Willunga by a mile
Victor in a close one
Creek with with room to breath
Goolwa by hand full

Yank - Mclarens boys hate the rain, gets there white boots dirty
Willunga to win for the next 18 games
Victor - Top shelf midfield
Creek - but only just, tough game for these rival clubs
Saints - No Laffo is going to hurt. I'd imagine they would have to move A.Polst into the ruck, good tap ruckman but cant give what Laf gives around the ground.

Agreed, big test for Polsty. How has his opening games been? Can't see him giving as much as Laffin, but will be competitive at the stoppages i would've though. Jones might be a bit too strong for him at ball-ups.
