I think everyone has prejudices, which some are better at hiding them than others. The problem is when one has a prejudice, be it racism or whatever and they act with evil intent because of it, that's another matter. I think Punky has made an excellent point, if we bow too much to minorities one day we'll wake up without free speech.

I have just enrolled an overseas student (from Iran) to come and study with me next year. Guess what? I received a Christmas card from him, how politically incorrect by our standards. I think there are too many people in "mainstream" Australia, being outraged on behalf of minorities. So merry Christmas becomes "happy holidays" I think the minorities don't give a damn they're too busy studying, working etc.

Great long spiel, but it still doesn't answer my question as to why you're annoyed at someone being branded a racist when he himself said it?
Mind you he did say he's only a racist a little bit.
A bit like he'd only be gay if he F***** blonde blokes as opposed to blokes with various colour hair.

Personally I think everyone is a little bit racist, some have the courage to admit it. Everyone has their prejudices the only bloke reputed not to have any was JHC. Hard act to follow

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one Mick, but I would say this, just don't assume everyone else think the say way as you.
In my experience some people treat others differently by their race and some don't, its pretty clear cut.
Your response is even weirder now as you were annoyed someone who admitted they were a racist was branded a racist and now you're saying everyone is racist but you were annoyed someone was branded a racist.
WTF? :?

I will say this - some people do have prejudice foisted upon them. Take me for example. I'll go the extra mile to protect myself, and express opinions along those lines. Now I've been called some infuriating names in my time (including communist, discriminator etc) all because I've been forced by disempowerment to try and find a way to fight back. It leads me to say and do some things that given the time over again I wish I hadn't said. On the other hand - provocation of someone who constantly gets it in the gut metaphorically makes responding automatic.

So I'm a nasty piece of work when provoked. It's not something I'm proud of, but with the lack of protection about and the needs I have (particularly on the Internet) it's all self defence. No one understands that because all they see is the words. They don't see the guy at the keyboard scared out of his wits because his needs are being trimmed by some loudmouths who are worsening the damage.

I'm not saying this to defend Coorong. Even though I've never had the experience he has, I have every sympathy for the Aborigines. And every other minority. Because I'm there. Heck, one time I was punched by an Aborigine in Kalgoorlie. Unprovoked. Now a lesser person would have taken that up with the police. But I didn't. Why? Because I knew the reputation of Kalgoorlie, and reporting it would have had me labelled a racist - and incorrectly as well.

I just wish more respect was shown for the anger - which for the most part is entirely justified. Not the actions, but the emotions. That's what's being forgotten, and it's why Coorong needs to re-assess his view. He needs to look at his experiences from another angle - then he may just find the explanation that will lead him away from his self confessed racist views.

I admit this was a bit of a ramble - I've had a bad day on a blog about "Hating Autism".

Amen to that! for the record i will never name a son of mine Kane. as most of you know i work in education. i was in a classroom in my previous school last year when the teacher had to answer a telephone call. i took over from her reading from a novel. as soon as i start one of the lads out the back scream and carried on so i sent him to the principals office, i could hear him screaming down the hall way. anyways about 2 minutes later the teacher came back in with the student and said to me "come and see me at lunchtime". so over lunch we were having a chat, it turns out that this student ran into the teacher in the hall, with the kid saying "why the F**k should i be listening to an Aboriginal teacher, stupid f*****g Aboriginal people, yada yada yada. this did not bother me. what scared me the most was that the father of this student was the President of the National Action. for those who don't know National Action is a far right group which preach white values! these are the people who worry me the most, the ones braining washing their children...

Here's some of his finest work with links to some of his more noteble forey's into public life, the scariest part is he was considered more right wing than the right wing alternative (Conservative Party) to the National Party in South Africa before the fall of Apartheid.......

I have had coffee with Brander and he is a Nazi Sicko, Have listemed to Nigel Mansell and he aint much better. I have read a lot about apartied, socialism, communism, have asked questions about religions and politics on which I know little as one should not be ignorant to the rest of the world and attitudes.

i am constantly amazed at the different attitudes amongst many friends who are, Croats, Serbs, Kooris, Africaans, Canadians, Germans, Dutchies, Poles, Italians etc etc.

We do host some interesting dinner parties at times. The Croats and the Serbs need to be on different nights I have discovered.

It was about maybe 10 years ago, friend of mine (at the time) suggested as I have right wing views I should meet an "associate" of his.

It was an interesting 20 minutes, but I never had the desire to repeat it. From memory his lot fielded a couple of candidates in the state election. The posters they used hid the face of the candidate. How wierd.

Never hid behind my views or my face.

As a man of German extraction (with a bit of Gypsy thrown in) I know enough of the Nazi movement to understand it should be condemned, along with the KKK, etc.
