"At least two guests tackled his assailant and dragged him outside"

........and hopefully gave him a couple of good kicks in the head.

Lots of terrorists in Burnside - you should try and drive around the Feathers roundabout - a 55 yo is one of the younger ones.

To think, it has always been a traditional Labour district as well......

I think you will find ORDB means that he hopes the two guests "hopefully gave him (the assailant)a couple of good kicks in the head"

Pity it wasn't a cricket or baseball function , there might have been a bat around rather than a magazine

Did you miss the bit about how that lunatic came at him with a knife too?

Imagine the outrage if Rann were a Liberal Premier there would be howls of thug unionists, Labor supporters not being able to handle democracy etc. but because Rann's from Labor and the attacker was from the leafy suburbs it's all just a bit of fun.

The version I read was that the guy used a magazine only on Rann, and that during the struggle with the two guys who grabbed him he allegedly "clutched at a table knife".
Presumably that's correct - I doubt he would be out of custody already if it were an assault [or even a threat] with a deadly weapon.
I wouldn't condone an assault, even with a magazine, on anyone, but let's not blow it out of proportion..
